Randomly Being Logged Out?
« on: April 25, 2016, 12:07:06 PM »
Just checking to see if this is happening to anyone else.  Even though I am logged in "Forever", multiple times in the last 3 days I have been randomly logged out after reading a thread and using the "Go To" to refresh the forum page I am on or to jump to another forum within KB.  The reason I notice it when the page refreshes is because there are no longer "new" icons and when I check the top, I am a Guest.

It is easy enough to log back in and then everything is fine, but I thought I would mention it anyway.  It is happening in different browsers as well and it's not something I have encountered since joining in 2009.  Maybe the gods are trying to tell me I spend too much time on KB!

FWIW, it has not happened to me (yet).

As logins are tracked via "cookies" exchanged between your browser and the web server, it could be a problem at either end -- but if no one else is having the same problem, it might be "interesting" to try a different browser if you have another one available for use on your computer.

Also, depending on how things are set up on the host side, if the session cookie is sent from www.kboards.com, but a subsequent request from your browser goes to just kboards.com, that cookie might not get sent.

...mmmm....cookies, now I'm hungry.

Hey, crebel,

I'm sure you're not spending too much time on KB!  :D

I'm not sure what the "Go To" you're clicking on is?

And yes, let us know what browser you are using!!

Sorry!  Should have typed "Jump to:" that's at the bottom right, followed by the box with the individual board name, then "go".  I have always navigated KB board by board instead of unread posts or the other options.

It has happened in Edge, Chrome, and IE11.  For example, I was here earlier from my bookmark in my Chrome browser which I have set to the KB Home Page.  I was already logged in, as usual. I read multiple threads in LTK, jumped to the Book Corner, then jumped to NQK.  After seeing new posts in two threads I was interested in, I read one and then used the "go" again to refresh the page and go to the second thread I wanted to read.  When the page refreshed - I was logged out.  I logged back in and everything has been fine since then.  I left, came back through my Favorites bar (this time in Edge), still logged in as usual.

But this was maybe the fourth or fifth time it has happened in various browsers since I actually logged out one evening and took a mini-vacation from KB for about a week.  When I logged back in after my break (couldn't take any more chat withdrawal!), it was still automatically set to "Forever" and I have checked to make sure that is still listed each time it has happened.

The first time it happened, I immediately switched to another browser, but was logged out there as well.  So I presume it is the account that logs out regardless of the browser at the time of log out.  Good grief, I'm giving myself a headache trying to explain! lol Like I said, it only takes a minute to log back in and isn't a big deal, but I wanted to see if it is happening to anyone else or if there was something I am or am not doing causing it.

Hmmmm....

Have you tried clearing your cookies?

I'm going to test with it now.  I haven't used the "Jump To" in years...

See, you shouldn't have taken that "vacation" from KB!

I've tried it with Safari on my iPad and with Microsoft Edge and Firefox on my desktop.  Don't seem to have Internet Explorer anymore since I went to the new Windows.  But I haven't had the problem with any of the browser I've tried.  I had to log in on Edge.  I didn't actually log out on Firefox--I'll try that.

Thanks, Betsy.  Don't spend any more time trying to recreate it, it must be something on my end.  If it happens again, I'll mention any new information I learn.

I tried logging out and closing the brower and then logging in, still works.

If anyone else has this happen, please let us know!
