Well Vellum sounded good but now it seems I need a Mac. I don't use a Mac.

No, you don't. See my post prior to yours.
Once the $200 unlimited license is purchased and some aptitude is achieved, your per book cost will be about $20 for the MacCloud rental time.

And yes I told Company A 'your services are no longer required'. I think it would be advisable to just go to Createspace and take everything down. If I had that $850 back it would all go to some sort of advertising for my books. Ah well.

Well Vellum sounded good but now it seems I need a Mac. I don't use a Mac. Am taking notes on all of this. Each of my three books are about 134,000 words. All the covers are done and the blurbs are done, book descriptions and I got an author page. So I have done as much as I can. Will start on Kindle Direct ASAP. If I run into confusions and mayhem I will try one of the services suggested here. Hope to start within a day or so. My good little cattle dog just got torn up by a javalina and vet is coming, just when I was ready to start she decides to duke it out with a wild hog. Does Bookformatting fairies offer good services or it is an 'I will show you how to do it yourself' thing? Well I should check it out for myself.
If your manuscripts are written in Word, and don't have any illustrations, tables, or columns, PM me and I'll send you a template. Free. You can reformat everything yourself in an afternoon.

And tell the dog to pick on something easier next time, like a pickup truck. :(

You might mention that unless he has a Mac, he needs to spend at least $2,000 before he can buy Vellum.

This isn't true. You can get a basic Mac Mini for $600ish, or a refurbed MacBook for around the same.

Formatting using Vellum and Mac is one way to do it but it's not the only way to do it. I would take the most direct route from your current skills.

What am I doing writing novels? If I'd known I could get $850 just to format a manuscript... Sheesh, I'm in the wrong business. ::)
I've often thought that, but I would rather not be bored to death!

Step 1 is always to come to Kboards first.  Good luck, we'll get you through it...

ETA: some very nice software packages and machines have been mentioned above.  But you don't *need* them .  All you need is a version of Word and you can get your e-books on Amazon via KDP quite easily.  They might be plain, as mine are, but they'll be adequate for the job.

If you are happy with a simple format, let us know and we'll talk you through it.  Cheaper (whatever you charge yourself for the service) and more educational that way...

OMG - right?  I'm so sorry for the OP. This company was obviously a predator.

You can either do it yourself or pay to have most books formatted as either ebook or paperback for less than a tenth of this from reputable formatters who do beautiful work.

I have sent you a personal message with a few hints if you are using Word. I hope they are of some use.
