My first launch thread be gentle
« on: June 18, 2017, 01:13:13 PM »
Ive read a few launch posts on here and I thought it was time I did my own.  Ill try and keep it as detailed as I can, and see what happens.

Before I continue, I gotta say I am nervous as f..k. This whole series has been in the works for just under a year now, and I really dont want to release the book, because if I dont, then it couldnt be a failure. But that path leads nowhere so I may as well get on with it.
The Space Outlaw series, is a mix of firefly and guardians of the galaxy. I know sci-fi military is hot at the moment, and sci-fi adventure is pretty much dead, so well see how this launch goes.
Regards to the book, I tried writing to market but Ive failed miserably at that. It is what it is, and I wont beat myself up about it too much.

Three books are written and ready to go, with the fourth one half way done. If the series takes off with a bang, or does reasonably well, then I can continue the series to seven books. If it flops then Ill wrap up at the five book mark.
I sent emails out to my ARC list a month in advance to the release date. With only 13 on the list, Im not expecting much, but every little helps, and if I only get half of those Ill be happy.

Covers

Release dates:
Preorder: 8th June.  Release date: 18th June- Breakout (Well be at 99c for two weeks- three weeks, then 2.99)
Preorder: 19th June. Release date:26th June- Stranded (3.99 on release)
Tentative 24th July- Revenge (The third book will be released end of July, just not sure when. 3.99 on release)

Goals
I want that stickiness!!!
If I can get the 1st book to stick under 10K then Ill be pleased. But Im aiming to get the first book to stick under 5K.
Then each book after that, Im looking to keep under 10K in the ranking charts.

Problems
For some unknown reason my look inside doesnt work, I use Vellum so I know the fault isnt my fault. I have contacted amazon, but havent heard anything.
Some of the arc reviewers have posted their reviews, but none appear to be showing. I have also contacted amazon regards to the issue.

No need to be gentle. Your book covers looks great. If that offends you...  :P

Love the covers!

You do know you don't get a look inside on a pre-order?

Hi Evenstar,

The first book is live, and has been for the last 24hours.

Congrats on the launch! Your plan looks solid - good luck with it.

I too launched a book yesterday, and have the same problems with no look inside and no reviews showing up, so I guess it's an Amazon glitch not a format/user error glitch. If you want to see your reviews, go to the book on Amazon.co.uk (you can link there from your KDP Bookshelf) and scroll down. You'll find a section that says: 'Most helpful reviews on Amazon.com'. You have 3 very nice reviews showing up there.  :D

PS Don't forget to add the new books to your sig. Saves a lot of click-click-clicking for folks here who want to check it out.

Groovy covers! Amazon needs to speed up the "look in side" activation already.

Thanks Pauline,

I got an email today from Amazon saying that it will take a week to fix  >:(

I sent another email, saying that wasn't good enough, lets see what they will come back with. Did you get your issue sorted, with your own launch?

How's it going?

P.S. Thanks for the tip about the sig.

We're not alone. There's another thread about it hereabouts, and I've heard of other people with the exact same issue. I put some minor changes through to a few books last week, and they still have the original look inside, so there's a fairly widespread problem. It's frustrating because I'm paying for ads but who's going to buy if there are no reviews and no look inside? Sigh.

My launches are never punch-the-air wonderful, and I'm intentionally going for a slow build rather than a big bang. Well, I hope it's going to be a slow build, and not just slow.  ;D

Sig looks good. ;)

Congrats on the launch! Like others have said, it's well thought out and organized, so I'm sure you'll move some copies. Can I make one minor suggestion? I'd start your AMS ads *now* instead of waiting for the 25th. Amazon will probably not spend your full $20 a day, but it will help your also-boughts populate and provide you with more sales and exposure.

Thanks for the advice Craig. I set up the ads yesterday night.

Results for the 19th of June.
Sales: to date: 27
Page reads: 2K
US rank:8,064
promo: Booksends

Well... its going better than I expected if I'm honest. I have hit one goal, that's breaking the 10K ranking barrier. This is the first day of the promo so, its looking good. I'm hopeful.

A few things that are pi**ing me off, is the whole issue with Amazon look inside and reviews issue, that me and everyone who has just released a book has. I have emailed them numerous times, and still have not heard anything back. Apart from the standard copy and paste rubbish, they email you back to get rid of you. If anyone finds a way to fix the problem, please let me know.

It wouldn't be a launch thread without problems right?

Congratulations, Dominique.  It looks like it's going pretty well.  Not surprising, after all the planning and work you've done.

How did the ARCs turn out?  Did you get a decent return on reviews?  Did you send out files for the ARC readers to side-load, or did you gift them (or something else)?

Way to go, looks good...

I love your covers. Glad you're off to a good start. It's nice to see your KENP starting to kick in, too.

I had Book Sends yesterday for my fantasy novel, Shadowglade. (Also ENT) and did very well.
