The Game of Thrones Writing Challenge is here!
« on: July 10, 2017, 10:52:22 AM »
Do you love Game of Thrones?
Do you want to increase your word count and set new goals?
...And do you perhaps need a little bit more self-discipline and motivation?
- Then this writing challenge is for you!

I got incredible inspired by Kate's thread; "A novel in a week: can we do it again?"
http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,252155.0.html
Although I'm not nearly as fast as Kate. I tagged along and actually managed to write consistently nearly 10.000 words/ week
(which is like "super-fast-speed-of-lighting" for me!)

So, I thought I would start a Game of Thrones Writing Challenge!

The rules are simple:
1.) Pick a weekly word count that you would like to achieve (low or high, it doesn't matter,
we can't all be Kate and Amanda, so slow turtle-writers are more than welcome to join!)
2.) Write your word count goal on a note
3.) Tell a friend about the challenge

Here is the deal:
If you haven't reached your weekly world count - You are not allowed to watch the next GoT episode
(here is where your friend will help you).

There are seven episodes, so a weekly goal of say 8,000 words could generate a 56,000 words novel.

Who is with me?
Let's cheer each other on and let the challenge begin!  :)

As a prawn, I can't afford cable. But I'm setting a goal of finishing my WIP before the next book in the series is released.  :P

Coming out of lurkerdom to say that I would like to join in on this too. This should be motivation enough to finally make me finish my first book -- or at least get into the habit of writing regularly. Hoping that more people join up as well.

Hi Linn and SayanB! Welcome to the challenge (and out of lurkerdom)  :)

My private goal is to write 2,000 words per day and 10,000 word per week.
I've told my disturbingly supportive partner about the challenge and he seems absurdly willing to hid the cable to the telly and/or the router if I should fail to reach my goal, so the challenge is definitively on and alive for my part.

Luckily it has been raining for the better part here in Oxford, which is good for moral and I managed to write 2,134 words today.
I'm going through my first draft of my novel "Stolen letters" (which is incredibly messy) and I'm writing everything in longhand. It takes foreeever, but it's part of my (somewhat ineffective) writing process.

Best of luck everyone! :)

I read the thread title and assumed we were all going to get it on and then kill each other... while writing?

Haha! I thought we were going to write a fanfic way to kill off one of the remaining characters! Killing off each others characters in GRRM ways would be even more fun ;)

Gaaargh, I am failing my own challenge! (Seriously?)
Last week I was procrastinating and got nothing done busy and I didn't manage to meet my word count during the week days.
So I was forced to write during the weekend, which is something I'm not especially fond of... (blec!)

Anyway, I clocked in yesterday at 00:30 with 10,126 words for the week, which means that I'm allowed to watch the first episode of GoT tonight!
Huzzah! Break up the chocolate!

I hope everyone who is following the challenge (or lurking) had a better writing schedule than I did last week. :-)

Week 2: Done! Yey!
I'm approximately 30% through my book since I started this challenge!
Although I felt a little bit miffed about almost failing my own challenge last week. it taught me a valuable lesson: If I don't want to sit bent over my desk after midnight working on a Sunday, I better Get Things Done  earlier! (No more procrastination or "oooh, but I have to research the Victorian era by re-watching an entire season of Penny Dreadful, surely?")

I got 10,003 words done Monday-Friday and now I'm going to enjoy my weekend... and the next episode of GoT, of course!

Happy writing everyone! :-)

someone should enter George RR Martin into this challenge... it feels like we've been waiting for his next game of thrones book for about ten thousand years

But what if the research is necessary? ;)

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!! Glad I wasn't drinking, that would have spewed everywhere upon reading this. :)
You think you can move the glacier?!! Good luck! At least we have the TV series to give us one outcome. It tends to dull the sting of waiting around for the books.
