ShadowRose Editing and Free Beta Reading!
« on: August 11, 2017, 07:06:31 PM »
Tired of cold editors that provide zero feedback and offer no real guidance on how to enhance your creation?  Well, you've come to the right place!  Here at Shadowrose Editing, we provide personalized editing services tailored to meet your needs.  Service doesn't end once you receive your manuscript.  We will review and edit any changes made within the first 90 days of completion!

Services
Beta Reading

Because we love to read, we are offering this service free of charge!  That's right!
With our Beta Reading service, we will provide feedback on plot development, character development, consistency, etc.  We will point out areas that take away from the story and let you know how we feel about the story as a whole.
You will receive a minimum of one comment per chapter, detailing what works for and against the story.

Beta Reading Plus

For a more detailed review of the story, we do offer Beta Reading Plus.  With this service, we will take a deeper look at consistency, believability, plot holes, writing style, flow, dialogue....the works!  We will look at each scene with a fine tooth comb, ensuring that each scene and the details included add to the story instead of taking away from it.  We will research the subject matter, if necessary, to make sure that the story stays relatively true to the subject matter.

Up to 20k words: $10
30k to 60k words: $20
70k to 80k words: $45
90k + words: $65

Editing

We provide different layers of editing based on your needs.  Need light editing or proofreading, we will provide that at a decent rate!  Need something a little more in depth?  Here is what we offer!
Words or sentences that are extraneous or overused
Run-on sentences
Redundancies from repeating the same information in different ways
Dialogue or paragraphs that can be tightened
Scenes where the action is confusing or the authors meaning is unclear due to bad transitions
Tonal shifts and unnatural phrasing
Passages that dont read well due to bland language use
Confusing narrative digressions
Changes that can be made to improve the pacing of a passage
Words or phrases that may clarify or enhance your meaning.
Corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
Ensures consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization
Flags ambiguous or factually incorrect statements (especially important for nonfiction)
Tracks macro concerns like internal consistency.
We will also provide you with our Beta Reading Plus Service free of charge!
Starting at $0.0025 per word  Please send us a sample of you writing for a personalized quote.

Because there is more than one reader, I didn't list the genre preferences.

The list so far includes:
YA
NA
Supernatural/Paranormal
Fantasy
Dystopian
Romance
Horror
Mystery
Thriller
Erotica

One of the readers does like same sex coupling, but will only read them if it isn't the typical coming out of the closet type of book.  Another is a huge fan memoir novels.  It is hard to pinpoint certain genres because, with five very unique readers, we tend to have someone for just about any story.  I guess the best thing to do would be to give a description of your story for the beta reading portion of the services and see if any would be interested in reading that for you.  I am sorry this wasn't the answer you may have been looking for. :)

Hello!  Our turn around time would be three days for 56k words.  We have immediate availability so we'd begin working on it the same day.  Also, you'd receive feedback from two readers.

Thank you for responding. You listed the genre I want beta read. It's for my pen name.  Once I finish self-edits, I'll get in contact.

Just a quick note to add to this thread. I just got my beta notes back from Ruth and I can honestly say that they were worth a lot more than $20. It got me to looking at various scenes in my manuscript and I was able to see where changes needed to be made. I will be using her services again in the near future.

Hello,

At this time, we can only accept beta reads or developmental edits.  Our next available date for editing will be around September 15th.  We appreciate all the interest.

When you say prices start at $0.0025/word, is that for the light editing or the more in depth editing?

There are actually several factors that are taken into account when the editor's give their quotes.  The starting price is normally for those that don't require a lot of work and time, who've had their manuscripts edited before and would just like a fresh pair of eyes, or for proof reading.  If you'd like, we do provide free quotes and sample edits.  The editor will assess the work and let you know how much they will charge.

Hi, you said you would not keep money for services unrendered, but I have yet to see a refund on my PayPal account. When can I expect to see that refund?

Thank you,
Zita Harrison
