HELP: my folders have disappeared in Outlook
« on: August 13, 2017, 09:45:09 AM »
I opened Outlook to discover that all my folders have disappeared, including the inbox. I can see emails coming in on my screen (KBoards mostly  :) ) but I can't open them as there is no inbox. Everything else is working. If I go to 'send a new email' it sends it OK and people are receiving them. I've tried everything including the usual switching on again and rebooting etc, and checking the navigation pane etc. Apart from restoring a backup, does anyone else have a simple plain vanilla answer (that a thickie like me can follow.) ?  ::)

I've Googled for an answer, but they all seem very complicated and I am likely to mess up the entire computer  :(

If its an Outlook/Hotmail address try logging in online at outlook.com Or download Thunderbird (from mozilla.com) and all you need to do is enter your email and password and it will download everything. That works with the major email providers it is slightly more work with web host based mail, but it involves changing settings in Thunderbird not messing up your computer.

Thanks. It's not a hotmail address. ALL my folders have disappeared. Quite weird.

Is there a little arrow at the top of the area where your folders normally are, you might need to hover about a bit. If there is click it and they should come back. Top left hand corner under where it has the icon for New Email. Arrow should be pointing right.

This.

If this doesn't work, try searching Microsoft for an update. If your version of Windows has updated, it's possible you might need an update for outlook to complement it.

There is an arrow for favorites and an arrow for minimizing the navigation pane, but that's all.

It's Outlook 2010. I haven't got Windows 10 yet (had problems downloading it so have given it a miss for a while)

Did a quick Google search.  Have you tried this. It seems pretty straight forward, and it appears that it worked for lots of people. Not sure if it will work for all folders, or just the inbox.

Thanks. Will give it a try.
My problem is compounded with the fact that while transferring to a new hard drive a couple of years ago Outlook ended up staying on the old hard drive and also the new one, but the emails were going to the old one, so I've been using that as we couldn't figure out how to save all the emails I had stored in Outlook. Now I can see some of the folders in the 'c' drive, which I'm not using, but all the folders in the 'f' drive that I'm using have gone  :(.

Can't believe how I missed doing this - just double-clicked on personal folders and everything re-appeared  :D DUH. I've been going round in circles trying everything else.
Thanks to everyone who offered help  :-*

Those types of things are normally simply resolved in the end. It's just not knowing what the simple fix is causes the problem :)

Quite  :). It's like the irate man who spent ages complaining to a website that he couldn't log in. They finally discovered he had his CAPS lock on  ;D
