Shall we play guess the KENP again?
« on: October 12, 2017, 02:50:53 PM »
Last month we had some fun guessing the KENP rate. Shall we do so again given its release is coming up?

I'm going to guess .00399

I'm not in KU, but I'm pretty pessimistic about what I've been seeing, so my guess is with you guys.

There should be a prize for whoever gets closest, just like guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar, which is the currency Amazon will eventually pay us in...jellybeans.

How about .00001? Then that way we'll be pleasantly surprised when it's higher and it also can't go any lower.  ;)

I'm going with... since Page Flip is so beloved and we can't control the bot situation, we're giving up. We're going to stop counting pages altogether and make KU an exposure only store, which you've got to pay to be included in. Thanks and have a nice day.

Sorry, Amazon would never say Thanks and have a nice day.

Probably .0042.

And still a better deal than a trad publishing contract. Personally, I think Amazon wants things somewhere between .0035 - .0045. They will continually hover between those points, testing how low they can go.

The person closest without going over is the next contestant. If we're going by Price is Right rules I change my answer to .000001 so if we hit an all time low, I'm the winner. LOL

$0.50.....'cause they're only going to count one page, not 452.

Guesses as to the rate are allowed.

Commentary directly related to the guessing game is fine.

Slams at Amazon or anyone else about the program in general are NOT fine and some such posts have been removed. Further such posts will also be removed.

Let's not let this turn into the same sort of nasty argument that happened last month.

I'll go with .0034 because I'm a cynic at heart.

I can't believe it's been a month. Correction, I can't believe it's almost November! YIKES!

I'm a cynic, too, so I think it will keep declining until too many people drop out to ignore. But .0034 is so low that I doubt it will happen. From a PR standpoint, the program has suffered some hits this month, so it wouldn't surprise me if it went up a little. But I think your long term trend is accurate.

One thing I noticed when running numbers between a release this year and an earlier release is that we've taken a much bigger hit than just the decline from .005 to .004, thanks to the reduction in page count. For example

500 page book X 2,000 complete read equivalents X .005 = $5,000.
400 page book X 2,000 complete read equivalents X .004 = $3,200.

Same book, same number of readers, but a 36% decline in payout, which is significantly greater than if you just looked at the 20% decline in payment per page.

See, this is why I don't sleep. I miss stuff, lol. I must've missed a bunch of stuff if my innocent comment triggered enough stuff to get cut. I swear, all the interesting stuff happens when I'm not looking.

Interestingly, my KENPC are at least level, and some are up since 3.0. They didn't slash every book. I didn't lose much the first time, either. But I started wirh lower KENPC than many people, partly because I didn't optimize formatting for it. But no, mine have stayed about the same over the past couple years.
