Thrills and Mystery Podcast seeking submissions. (sched full)
« on: November 29, 2017, 09:19:56 AM »
In mid January, I am hoping to bring the podcast back to a focus on stories. For the past several months I have been interviewing authors. Now, though, I am ready to return to the story format.

For the uninitiated, In my podcast I read short stories written by myself and other indie authors as a way of exposing potential readers to new talent. Well, new to the reader. I do not have sponsors on the show, so I don't do it for money and cannot pay for the stories I read; however, those who submit their stories are given a free banner ad on the podcast website so that when new listeners come to the show, they can find a way to connect directly with an author whose story interested them.

This will be the fifth season of the show, and I shoot for around twenty weekly episodes. So I need your submissions. I can accept flash fiction, short stories and novellas. Also first chapters or prologues if the chapter stands as a strong concept on its own merit. Genre does not matter so long as the story has a significant element of suspense.

If you have questions, post here or IM me. You can also checkout the website, podcast.thrillsandmystery.com, or the submissions guidelines at submissions.thrillsandmystery.com.

When you're ready, send your submission/query to submissions@thrillsandmystery.com.

Do you have a short story in the trunk? Do you have a novella you're giving away for free? Did you write a story for a contest or anthology that was rejected and is just gathering digital dust? Have you published a short story collection and would like a way to tease a potential audience with one of the samples?

This is your chance to get that story out there folks.

I'm interested, but all my books are in Audible.  Let me check and see if I can put a small portion on for advertising. If not, I'm working on a short Christmas story with a twist. :)

I've got one I always thought was quite neat I'd be happy to share... the only thing that gives me pause is it's got a bit of an Australian twang and might sound a little odd being read by an American. Not that I don't adore your voice. What do you reckon?

Lori, looking forward to your submission.

James, I have done a few accents in previous episodes. Cockney, Scandinavian, Brooklyn. I mean, I have no idea if I actually pulled them off, but I did them anyway. I have been watching Glitch on Netflix. I think I could handle it. Or I could come off like Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker.

Or...

You could record the story for the episode. I'm not opposed to a guest reader. I've done that before too.

Either way, I'd love to have the story on the show.

I could record a page or so and send over as a "demo" if you like?

EDIT and I assume you want to read it first?

Go ahead and send the audio and test at the same time. Don't worry about quality or flubs in the demo audio. Looking forward to it.

That sounds like a lovely opportunity to submit my very short story "A Meadow in Saanich." It takes about an hour to read and probably the same time to narrate. It is a paranormal mystery, but without anything sinister or malignant; quite the opposite. I hope that's okay.

Valarie, sounds great. Please send it along.

Mark, if you have something we can read in an episode, I'd love to do a combo reading/interview episode.

Season five is filling up. I have scheduled a baker's dozen episodes so far. I'm shooting for 20, so there's still room for your entry if you haven't sent one in yet.

Authors to be featured so far include: Bonnie Milani, Anna-Violetta Carsini, DA Bale, James Lawson, Veronica Gventsadze, and probably Mark Gardner as well as a few names unfamiliar to kboards.

I have a number of short stories and flash, all are thriller suspense mixed with horror. I just released the first novel in a trilogy and an podcast interview would be great too. I'm up for any combination of whatever. The flash fiction on my website is indicative of my style, if you want to check it out first
https://www.guyriessen.com
I have two potential short stories in specifically in mind--Death in the Sunset or Fruiting Bodies--but I also have a couple historical thriller short stories which could work as well. Can we discuss what might work best for you?
