New Series Titles Make a Difference
« on: December 02, 2017, 01:37:29 AM »
I have updated the titles on the cover of Book 1 and Book 2 to brand the series. I am keen to know what Kboarders think of the difference?

The originals can be seen in my signature below.

I know--they are huge. My host site is not allowing me to use the editing tools tonight otherwise I'd offer much smaller easy to digest sizes.

EDIT: UPDATED AGAIN REVISED COVERS

Okay. Maybe the new titles don't make a difference?

Hi Rick,

Not seen your original titles, but I love the font on these, the way you have the single letter falling really captivates me and I think is very interesting. You'll hear lots of different views I am sure but I think their great.

I think they are good changes to make to make them much more consistent and more easily identifiable as a series.  I honestly hadn't even realized they were a series until this post, though I've seen them in your signature for awhile.

Far out! This is all positive feedback.

And thank you all of you for your comments!

I was looking to tie them together with like titling ties and it works but I the A looks too dark on the thumbnail to me. Since that hasn't been mentioned it can't be too noticeable. I think I will go with this.

Really nice. I do like the series titles being there. I need to check out these books, because they look like something I'd read.

(I keep signatures turned off so the site loads quicker.)

I'm disappointed though, because I thought this was going to be a discussion about series titles making a difference in sales, lol. It's something I've been giving a lot of thought lately.

I'll append the thread as soon as I have a clear idea of the impact they have on sales, if any. I uploaded them about 15 hours ago and don't expect them to show on the book pages until tomorrow. It might be the full three business days wait.

I like the way the falling letter ties the covers together. Nice branding. 8)

Yes! I think that's a big improvement! The only other thing I would suggest (but if you're not looking for suggestions please ignore this) is that May Day takes up a lot of space on its cover (as it should, there is room for it) but Jubilee Year takes up less space even though there seems to be enough space for it to take up the same real estate as May Day. I think it would look good to stretch both words a bit so they take up a similar space to May Day. Other than that, I think they look great! The flaming tilted 'A's are a great touch!

Like the version in my signature. The problem for me there is to keep the titling consistent as a brand for the series. The font is too wide to be enlarged in the case of the the word 'Jubilee'. A problem to do with the form of the letters in that word. I could stretch it all vertically but it makes the font look terrible. I could just use different font, or I could reduce the size of 'May Day'.

I'm not sure what to do about it.

Hmm... If Jubilee doesn't stretch well, how about just making "Year" the same font size as 'day,' and adjusting the spacing but leaving Jubilee as is?

I have made the changes. You can see it in my original post at the top.

I resized 'Year' to make it closer to the size of 'Day' but still in keeping with the max size I can get for Jubilee and still have a nice distance from the edge on either side. I also sharpened up the A in May Day.

What do you think?

I think you are right. It looks better.

;D
I erased the dog he was walking. He has his hands on the leash. In the story, there is a dog but its never on a leash. The clock tower is rather phallic also...

As the writer employing the talents of the cover artist you find yourself compromising with their interpretation on whatever you give them. If you don't you may never get a cover for the price you both agreed on.

Just echoing the same as above...love the falling A.

I also like how you tied the A with no crossbar into your author name as well. Great consistency.

Thank you for all the great feedback.

I can't see a noticeable leap in sales but it's early days as a result of the covers or any great leap in sales come to that. If the two books with the revised covers take off like bitcoin I'll definitely report back.

I only vaguely remember the old covers. These new ones kick it out of the park.
