Amazon not paying me my royalty money.
« on: December 06, 2017, 07:08:20 AM »
Amazon is not paying me. This has been going on now for five weeks and they keep telling me they are fixing the issue but nothing happens.
After five years of being paid, they notified me that my band information is invalid. I've deleted and re-added my information over and over
at their request but nothing happens. I got through on a phone line two weeks ago and a representative promised to fix it and call me back.
She never did.
My bank assures me that my info is correct and that the problem is with Amazon.
I'm wondering if any of you has had this happen and if so, how you got it resolved. I did meet someone who is having it happen to him too
but he is not an author.

The bank information can be correct, but entered incorrectly.  I would suggest printing it out as it appears i n you banking profile and taking that for them to check each number is actually in the right place.

Sorry this is happening, Marla.

I suggest calling again and, when you get someone, keep them on the line while they fix it. Insist. Let them know that you feel as if you were forgotten last time and want to ensure that the issue gets resolved. Be polite, but firm.

Amazon no longer has a "Call" button on their contact us page. It went away about two weeks ago.
So frustrating!

Then call the main CS number and ask to be transferred to KDP.

Amazon is an automated system the the problem is most often an input error as minor as an extra blank space before or after the number or transposed number or reversed swift and routing number.  An experienced Kindle publisher you trust could check that in a few minutes if you shared your bank detail form and a check with them.  Amazon staff are literally incapable or fixing input errors because they don't know what the number is meant to be. Once that option is eliminated, sure damn the torpedoes, but not before.

You can still ask for a call if you go through your author central page, I believe. It was an option when you sent an email, and from what I understand the people who call are pretty up on how KDP/Amazon works.

If you still can't get a resolution, and it truly is on Amazon's side, emailing Bezos is the last resort (I think it's jeff @ amazon.com -- no spaces, of course). That will get some higher up people looking at the issue.

Be polite, but firm.

That's the important part, and the "polite" part is more important than the "firm"!

The reps are underpaid and overworked, and for most of them, English is a second or third language.

Marla, one thing that's helped me is to copy and paste the bank info directly from its website. (I just log in and call up the data for my checking account.)

As others have said, it's so easy to get an extra space in there or something like that when typing.

Good advice. But if what Marla typed in five years ago just stopped working out of the blue, it sounds like something changed on Amazon's end. What a huge drag, Marla.

ETA: Worse than a drag if you live off your writing income!

Thanks for all the helpful feedback! Lots of tips for getting in touch with AZ that I wasn't aware of. Did hear from a rep today (he called me) but he said the same thing the last one did--the tech department is
working on it. We'll see . . .

I had a problem with my password once and that's what I did. It took me a while to get someone to help me, but I stayed on the phone the whole time with her until I was able to log in.
