Freebooksy any good still?
« on: December 06, 2017, 08:21:22 AM »
Just checking if anyone has run one in the past month. I notice they jacked their prices.

Is it worth it or not?

I ran one on two books very recently, both books that I've promoted with them already quite recently.

About 3k copies shifted between the two of them, which was alright in my opinion, but slightly less than they've done before.

Each time you run a book with an advertiser the results will be slightly less.

I think Freebooksy *is* worth it. Their customer service is great, they have decent non-Zon reach, and they even take short stories. I actually buy bulk packages of their products to get better rates.

I write books about Change, Chaos, and Loki

Absolutely. That's what I've found. Unfortunately, they're pretty much the only non-Bookbub (who I'm still yet to score a promo with) site who actually shift a reasonable amount of copies for me.

They're $100 if you write Romance or Fantasy/Paranormal. Everything else is under $100.

The prices look identical in the main genres to what they've been for the past year, unless I'm missing something.

In any event, yes, still worth it.

I agree with everyone else. They still shift 2 - 3k copies of a free book for me. Read-through isn't amazing, but I think of it as a good investment to get a fresh crop of reviews.

Bargainbooksy, not so much! That feels like a waste of money these days.

Not Freebooksy's fault, but I used to make most of my money off their ads through whispersync purchases. Not so much now since Audible/Amazon raised the prices from $1.99 to $7.49.

The last two ads I did with them have had pretty long tails with people still reading the follow up books in the series weeks later. In fact, those are the only two series with any sales/borrows.

My last Freebooksy was in October, for a book they'd run before (more than a year prior), and I got a little over 1800 downloads. It was the only promo I had running that day. So I'd say they still perform quite well! It was my best promo day out of all the sites I had booked (which I spaced out by a day or two so I could see the exact effects).

I've had FB deals that get below 40 in the free store. Generally, they're good by themselves to get into the top 100.

Definitely! I've just done a free promo. On the day I used Freebooksy the downloads shot up to over 1800.

I need to add up the other retailers, but I did one last week and got about 6k downloads (3600 the day of the ad, and the remainder over the following days) on Amazon. The book got to #28 on the US store. Read through on Amazon isn't as much as the other sites, but I was really happy with the results.

Ran my time travel book with them two weeks ago. Got 2,200 downloads that day, made it to #60 in the free store. For $70, I was okay with that.

I feel like I made up the price I paid for Bargainbooksy so I would use them again. It's not going to be awesome like the free version, since people tend to grab freebies and maybe read later (or maybe not). I think it depends on what you want to get out of it. I was looking for earnings since I have just the one book. If you want rank, then Freebooksy is the way to go.
