Murphy's Law of indie publishing
« on: January 13, 2018, 11:26:36 AM »
Of course, Amazon finally offers me author copies for my paperbacks only days after I finally gave in and bought two at full price. How frustrating. That's ten bucks that I'll never see again.

Wait--Amazon is offering author copies now?  Did they just send you an email?

Was tinkering with one of my covers, and there it appeared...proof AND author copies. I went to the Bookshelf and voila...the option is available there too.

It's being rolled out very, very slowly.

KDP Print Beta is now sixteen months old, and it's still not as slick as CreateSpace was ten years ago.

Beware of customs duty on author copies. I tried to save on shipping by ordering several author copies to sell to friends. I ended up paying customs duty, which put up the cost of the books to more than the cost of buying them from Amazon >:(. They didn't charge customs duty when I bought only one or two books.
