Does Createspace allow cream paper for 5x8?
« on: January 13, 2018, 08:34:15 PM »
Sorry if this is easy to find on Createspace, I tried searching through it but as I haven't used it yet maybe I just don't know where to look?

Anyway, as I get closer to publishing my first book I'm waffling on what size the print book should be. I originally wanted 5.5x8.5, but since my novels don't seem they'll reach even 80k, I'm considering cutting it down to 5x8 instead. However, I remember reading somewhere that Createspace doesn't offer cream paper for 5x8 books, is this true? Or was that old information and they've since changed it? Also, do they over matte covers for 5x8?

That sounds like bad info to me, because I have a 5x8 book printed in 2014 that has both cream paper and a matte cover. I think you should be fine, but if you're having doubts, you could always go 5.25x8.

Yes, they do. I have published three books over the past few months, and all have been cream paper at 5x8. They do have matte covers for that size as well, and they do still offer them. My own covers were matte up until I updated them recently (the past month or two). I like matte better as a rule, but CreateSpace's matte covers get stained with fingerprints and it will not come off. I have some matte books that have remained stained for years (despite wiping/cleaning). I switched to glossy because at least you can wipe those off.

I know that wasn't part of your question, but I thought I'd let you know. Good luck with whatever you decide.  ;)

Yep. I've got sixteen 5x8 books sitting on my shelf right now with cream paper, published as recently as November. I've done some matte and some glossy.
