Can sposces share a KU membership?
« on: February 09, 2018, 09:34:57 AM »
Can spouses share a KU membership? I am assuming that they share an Amazon account.

If so, do pages read by both spouses count toward pages read.

Everything is theoretically impossible, until it is done.

I don't see why not. You'd just need to have two devices accessing the same account, with a KU subscription for that account.

My wife and I share a KU account. I don't see anything wrong with a "family" account where parents and kids share an account.

My wife and I share the Amazon account, including KU. The only problem we really run into is the space. We constantly have to check with each other to see if there is a book we can return so one of us may download another.

I bet it'd work particularly well for couples with different reading tastes. Then each person could have five slots, and there'd be no overlap.

No, it means the husband gets one slot and the wife gets nine. Just like the closet space.

My wife reads Romance and I read Fantasy, so we can generally tell our books apart, so there's that.

This is close to the truth. Since her favorite authors (some of which are on Kboards) are prolific, she download 3-4 at a time. There have been a number of times I open the app and find only 1 of my books left in KU. I've had to get back into the practice of keeping a written list of books I'm looking to read.

No idea if two readers using the same account but on different devices count as two sets of page reads or one, though.

No idea if two readers using the same account but on different devices count as two sets of page reads or one, though.

Since they have no way of knowing if one person or six people are using the registered devices on the account, it's handled the same as one person reading multiple times--one read counted per account. If you quit at page 110, the endpoint registers at 110. If your spouse tries the book a week later and gets to page 500, the publisher gets credit for pages 111-500 at that time because you already registered the first 110.

The only real issue is if you read the same things, at the same time, you have to make sure not to update the latest page or you'll go to the other person's bookmark. But credit should be gotten for the pages when someone does connect.

<snort> My spouse can have the closet space. I'll take the book space.  ;D

While all four members of my household technically share a KU account, it's mostly me and my son.

I have to be really careful not to download any really spicy romance/erotica covers  ;D
