delete book gone on KDP dashboard?
« on: March 12, 2018, 07:48:26 PM »
It seems the delete option is missing from both ebooks and paperbacks now. Did anyone else get it taken away? Or am I being punished?  :'(
All that you would, you are

And that is the crown of a craving.

You are slaves of the wormwood star.

Analysed, reason is raving.
       Feeling, examined, is pain.

What heaven were to hope for a doubt of it!

Life is anguish, insane

And death is - not a way out of it!

I don't see the option, either. (shakes head) If they have taken it away I'm really glad I took advantage of it during the short window it was open.

There never has been a delete option on the kdp dashboard.

I've certainly never seen it. I've got a couple of books that are in draft and were never published, but I'm still stuck with them. Perhaps it was another of their mistakes, like when the mysterious 50% royalty option appeared for some.

It was around for a while in late December 2017. See parts of this thread: http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,259310.msg3610493.html#msg3610493

There was an option before. Don't know if it's still there. Though when I recently tried to delete two books on unpublished status, an error message appeared. I had to contact Amazon directly. The books are now gone from my dashboard.

Wish I'd seen that  :(

My 1st paperback is 'unpublished' as I found out about Createspace after I'd published in KDP, would love to fully delete that.

Amazon is probably just updating something on the back side. It will return when they're done. Or else it was too much of a hassle and they dumped the idea. Who know with them? Wished I'd had the option to remove some old stuff myself, but as usual, day late and a dollar short.

I still have it <shrug>.
It's weird. I feel like things appear and disappear all the time on my KDP dashboard. It usually resolves in a day or two.

I actually used it not long ago to remove an excerpt short from my Kindle offerings that I had shelved years ago. I was delighted when I saw it so I could remove the piece, as the option had never been available before.

It may be contextual, in that it only appears when you have removed a book from sales.

It does make me wonder if deleting a book causes issues for Amazon. If we delete a book and a customer who has that old edition on their Kindle needs it refreshed, is the file no longer available? I suspect that Amazon maintains a backup library so an ebook is available for a customer in just that situation, even if it was deleted. It would be pretty nasty if Amazon had to maintain a copy of each customer's personal library, as the storage requirements for that would be enormous.

I've got several that are unpublished and two that never got published but I don't have a delete button and I never have had.

Might it have been US-only? I certainly deleted three or four of my long-since-unpublished ebooks.

With respect to print editions, I suspect that deleting it from one's bookshelf would not delete it from the Amazon store. That would upset the third-party vendors, the few of them who really do have secondhand copies.

(Two bits of advice: 1) Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition, and don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly. 2) To get the most and best answers to a question, post it in the General Questions forum.)

What general questions forum? Are you getting confused about where you are posting, since KBoards has no general questions forum and I see you've migrated your silly slogan to here. If you are promoting the kdp forum here, which is the one with the general questions, I strongly suspect that is against the rules.

As to your suggestion that the delete key might have been US only, that is very likely. The US get all the new innovations before the rest of us.

BTW, while we're on the subject, you still haven't answered my question as to what happened when you tried kdp print. Since you like to pretend to be an expert on the subject, I'm still waiting to know (with baited breath).

LOL, his signature is for the KDP forum.

I had the delete and used it to remove a test book I published when I had no clue that would be a bad thing and haunt me everywhere. It still shows up in Author Central and Book Reports, but at least it's done from the KDP bookshelf. It never got sales, wasn't supposed to, and I never made a paper version thank goodness.

I'm not in the U.S. and I had the 'delete' function. Seems to be gone at the moment.

No, it was there for several months. I got rid of a bunch of old erotica from 2010.

The delete button was definitely there, and now it's definitely gone.

However, I'm currently trying to adjust pricing on one of my books, and it's not letting me in, so it looks as though Amazon are doing some jiggery-pokery behind the scenes. As ever, give it a few days and I'm sure it'll all be in order again. I hope so, I have one more I'm keen to purge.

It's not just me!  I tried to delete a paperback version (which I did a few weeks ago) and now it's gone.

I changed the title of my book slightly...does anyone know how to get rid of the old paperback?  I can't change the title and I need to create a new one (with new ISBN) but how to link it to KDP ebook if I can't get rid of the old one.  Any ideas?  Do I have to delete ebook and start over with new ASIN and ISBN?   :o

ETA:  I've already sent two messages.  Just sent another one...
