Some typos are so funny...
« on: June 11, 2018, 04:40:48 PM »
Hi folks:

I'm working on proofreading, and I found a funny typo:

The gravel runway, along with the Canadian hooters, fell behind them.

What are your funnies?

Thanks and blessings,

E

He took his [crap] off.

Yup. The forum is is going to bleep that out. It's meant to be a shirt, of course.

I can also attest to the fact that if you dictate your fiction, it is a VERY BAD idea to name a character Puck. I think/hope I got all of the dictation software's interesting interpretations.

I came across a doozy in a newspaper a little while ago where a pub was running an advert for 'cut lunches'. Unfortunately, they added an 'n' to the first word.

Hmmm, makes you wonder if that was really an accident.   ;)

LOL!

Well, everyone knows about the anals of history.  ;D

This isn't as funny as the ones mentioned so far, but when I was in college a friend had edited his work and I was reading it over and found this gem that I remember to this day:

...to be allow us to camapre...

Always pays to edit your edits!

This wasn't me, and maybe not technically a typo, but....

Years ago I worked for a large company, and my boss created a letter from the department head that would go out to 300 or so people.  After the department head (not my boss's boss, but her boss's boss's boss)-- anyway, after he signed the letter, my boss found a typo and had to reprint it.  She left the corrected version on his desk, with a stickie note on it, on which she wrote "Please resign."

I saw one in a newspaper recently. It was supposed to be "40 Years of Head Start" but they left out "Start". Unfortunately the photo beneath the headline was a group of teachers and workers who were mostly women.

*If you're not from the US, Head Start is like preschool.

For some reason, I often typo alpha as aloha. Which is kind of funny when writing about a beefy werewolf aloha, because I imagine him in a grass skirt and flower necklace.

I once sent out a big batch of query letters/emails with the word "pubic" instead of "public." No one commented on it, and the error didn't stop me from getting requests for more materials.

I laughed my behind off when I realized my mistake. :D

I came across a photo of an advertising poster recently which read:

Did you know? Kansas City welcomes 25 million visitors anally

I'm glad I missed out on the welcome when I visited then.

My all time favorite also came from a college paper -- my roommate's anthropology essay which mentioned 'evil spitirs'.

I recently read a romance which had all the usual typos... road for rode, breaks for breaks, etc. It also had a couple which had me literally on the floor laughing.

"She certainly wore all the airs that came with that self-proclaimed title with the complete lack of grace that was only to be expected from her elk of the human race."

Yes... her ELK of the human race. Quite apart from the utter nonsensicality of the rest of the sentence, what the HELL?

And then this one just ended me:

"Nice of you to finally remember the existence of us pheasants," said his deep voice over the phone sarcastically.

A few years ago, a flyer came through our letterbox promoting the opening of a new gym. It offered "everything from a full work-out, to a genital stretch and tone".  :o

Hubby and I passed  - on both options.   ;D

A friend told me of a menu item they came across while living in Costa Rica. It was cock served in a hot piper sauce.

In proofreading my latest, I kept finding question marks where there should have been periods. It's pretty funny sometimes when things meant to be declarative statements turn into questions.

This is why I should not read posts here and drink tea at the same time.  Narrowly avoided needing a new keyboard.

"He realized he had to go rouge."

I've had my fair share of heartache, but going rouge? Nah.

Once this was in the newspaper under a photo: Tammy Jones and June Smith, who're setting up their artwork, will be in the show. The apostrophe was left out of the word "who're" thereby making it a totally different word and making the ladies pretty mad. Why use the contraction "who're" anyway? Can be a little too risky. I think that was the last time young hot shot page designer Bethany ever used it.

I process employee time reports, and one day a fellow wrote down "8:00-10:00 - raping unit."  I got a good laugh out of that one.
