Those are both great lines! I think I'd use the first but change it to "She poked me in the butt with the stainless steel non-slip corn holders." :)

You might get more replies if you start a poll.

She poked me in my arm that I broke once in third grade with the stainless steel non-slip corn holders which she had been using to eat the corn grown on her grandfather's field that had been passed down in her family since they arrived from Ireland in the year 1852.

...since they arrived from Ireland in the year 1852.

The corn replaced the potatoes or lack thereof?

Reading Kboards threads about polls is better than a poke in the arm with stainless steel non-slip corn holders.

It was late afternoon, and I was exercising in my grav-sim treadmill--the kind with the non-slip belt--and reading a kboards thread about corn via my ocular implants.  Then I was stabbed by some girl with a stainless steel arm, and that was when I knew the human-cyborg war over genetically modified vegetables had begun.

She bared her teeth and plunged the corn holder into my biceps like Norman Bates wielding a tiny sword.

"Hey!" I pulled the gadget from my arm and threw it on the floor. "Like you never read about KBoards polls at the dining table?"

Wonderment--why do I find her so attractive, when all she does is poke me in the arm with the stainless steel non-slip corn holders? :)

The poke in the arm should have warned me I'd taken a hit.
A pair of stainless steel non-slip corn holders, the ones with the lime green silicon handles on special offer at Walmart, jutted from my raincoat sleeve like a bad prop of a miniature alien spacecraft from a 1930's film set.
I tossed my cigarette. There was only one thing I could do.
My Nexus blinked a welcome after my fingerprint was accepted.
I caught a whiff of her perfume.
The heat of her wonderment scorched my back. I drooped in relief when she drew alongside.
"Baby, watcha doin'?"
Her lisp still had the power to drive me crazy and it took all my resolve to keep scrolling.
I found it.
Her face crumpled in torment. "No, it can't be ..."
The kboards thread about polls.
I hooked a smile as my afternoon just got a hundred times better.
"Yeah, baby."  A warm, safe feeling encompassed me as I typed. I'd found home.

Words gushing upon the page; morsels and dabs of all sorts of delectable considerations vying for space to catch my eye - I wonder how they'll taste on a big home baked slice of rye.

My kind of opening...  Just interesting enough to overcome the cheese factor.
