Good to hear--and they're making advanced all the time. My mom died in 1980 at age 50 of what would be treatable today, is what I always tell myself. Hang in there, give yourself time, and have fun while you do.

Not a book unless there's a tie-in novel but for human and machine... Helo and Cylon Boomer/Athena/Sharon from BSG (I've been watching my dvds of Battlestar Galactica lately).  ;D

That was a good one!  I really liked their romantic story arc across the series.  Even with all the mindbending AI craziness going down, it was grounded by this beautiful story about a boy and a girl and their little family.

I also liked Baltar/Caprica Six.  Don't get me wrong, I thought the characters were deeply flawed, but it was really entertaining how they both would get trolled by visions of their 'other half.'

Congrats on the great results.

Doctor's can rarely talk in absolutes. I can't tell you how many times I was called to my grandfather's bedside to be told by the doctor he wouldnt make it through the night/week. Yeah we did that for almost 20 years. Do keep postive and enjoy life.
That is wonderful news! Glad you shared.  ;D

Excellent news, Mark. You're always so "bout it" that it's hard to imagine that kind of pressure sitting on your shoulders  :o. Glad to hear your mood is up, and hope it stays up to keep fueling that creativity.
Mark, that's great news. Stay positive! Nothing's better than doing something you love doing.
Excellent news Mark! I hope the numbers keep dropping. So grateful to get to know you here. Sending up a prayer for you. V.
All the best Mark. Fight on and fight hard.
Excellent news! Glad you shared it with us.
Fantastic! May those numbers keep dropping and your spirits keep rising.
Thumbs up and great news!    8)
Awesome news, Mark. Here's to your good health!
Glad to hear this. May your numbers drop even more.

Thank you all for your kind words.

It's so nice to have good news every once in a while. I came to Kboards today wondering what new thing had gone wrong on Amazon, what new scam was going to make life more difficult, or how someone had managed to trademark every word in the English language. What a joy to find some happy news instead!

I remember you mentioned the cancer a short time after we first met, but you always seem so productive and centered that it's easy to forget. (Well, not easy for you, but easy for the rest of us, because of the vibe you put out.

I know a number of people who've beaten the odds. Some of them lived much longer than their doctors projected; others have been in remission for years with no sign of further trouble. I'll keep a good thought that you end up on that list.

:) the previous prognosis was six-ish years based on the white count climb. At that point it would be the to look at options, I as wary of what was available. The doctor also told me today that there is a new drug that is super promising for my flavor of cancer. It's like a tremendous weight has been lifted, and I'm feeling superb.

Mark,

Just FYI; there are probably more drugs in the pipeline for CLL than for just about any other cancer. The progress has been astonishing.  I am going to PM you with a link or two that may be of interest to you.

So glad to hear the positive update, Mark!  You're such a positive influence around here and I love to hear how your Cons go.  May those numbers plummet over the course of the coming months and your word counts increase.  Blessings to you!

Hi, Mark!

I can understand completely, as I was diagnosed with CLL three years ago following routine blood work. It sounds as if you are also in what we call "watch and wait', or, more appropriately, "watch and worry."

Congrats on the excellent news! Is there anything in particular you have been doing? Some supplements can affect your numbers, though often there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what the numbers do. My numbers have risen only slowly, and occasionally fall; I think I'm at about 14000 or so now. Have you had the FISH test done to determine the genetic markers?

I was simply panic-stricken when first diagnosed. When I discovered that, as my wonderful hematologist told me, I had "none of the scary markers", I relaxed considerably and can honestly say that I think about it only when I have one of my six-month checkups upcoming (which I now do.)

Feel free to PM me or email me at marie@theprosepolisher.com.  All the best to you.
(I had already typed this to you this morning, but then kBoards hiccuped, and I lost it.)

I haven't been doing anything special, other than trying to eat better and exercise more. It's tough, because food that's good for you is more expensive, and a years-old foot injury prevents me from doing a lot of exercises.

When my hematologist did the biopsy from my hip, he told me what my genetic mutations were, but I've since forgotten. My initial WBC was 14k, and aver the last three years, rose to 39k. This is the first time they've fallen, so I'll know in four months what the trend is.

I was pretty floored when I got the diagnosis. I never did the behaviors associated with cancer, but it really is craps shoot. Thanks for your kind words, and I'm back to watching and waiting.
