Here is the code (thanks, intinst!) that you can copy/paste into a post:

Regarding Link-Maker, for some reason Amazon does not make 100% of its database available for developers to access. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to what's in or out. So in your situation we have to rely on the old version of our Link-Maker, which just accepts an ASIN rather than doing a search.

I truly appreciate that, Harvey.  And intinst!  :D

Actually, I think your explanation puts me more at ease than anything.  I got paranoid and reposted my book just for the fun of it, because I don't see it listed on TitleZ either.  And naturally I was convinced I hadn't had any sales due to a computer glitch and not that people just didn't want to buy it  ;)  hahaha

Thank you!

The Link Maker is not picking up any of my kindle books by either name, title or number.  Is it broken?  Brendan

No. It has to do with how Kindle books are indexed by Amazon, some of them are simply not available in the database that Harvey is accessing from them. You can use the linkmaker 1.0 to add those books. The process is not as easy, as you need to add the book pic and the ASIN# manually, but the result is the same. There is a link to the linkmaker 1.0 on the linkmaker page.

Last week when I typed in my name "Christopher Meeks" to Link-Maker, I received both of my books of short fiction. Today when I wanted to add a link to a post, neither book showed up. Am I doing something wrong?

I tried to use both the old and the new link-maker to get Rogue Hunter and neither would work.  But instinst found it for me, so I'm really confused now!

Link-maker 1.0 requires you to manually enter the ASIN number (in the case of Rogue Hunter it is B0029ZANKQ) and the picture from Amazon if you want to make a picture link.

There are instructions at the bottom of the link-maker page that explain how to find the ASIN and copy the picture on the Amazon product page. If you need help, let me know.

No. The Kindle books are not all indexed in the database the link-maker searches from. This is something that is controlled by Amazon, currently there is no way to get all of the titles. This is a common occurrence.

Again, you can use link-maker 1.0 to create a link to anything on an Amazon product page.

Link maker is not working.  I typed in the name of a book or books I have been reading that have always returned a result.  That did not happen today, just wanted to let one or all the moderators know it is not working.  Thanks!

The link-maker is working .... I just tried it with several Kindle books, some it found, some it didn't. I would guess that Amazon has made additional changes to the database that is being queried, and we are ending up with fewer matches than usual. Unfortunately, this has always been a limitation of link-maker 2.0

Again, if you want to make a link, the link-maker 1.0 will make a link to anything on an Amazon product page, just takes a few more steps than link-maker 2.0.

Amazon made a significant change to how its databases are accessed by developers, on Aug 15.

While our database access is working, the results returned by Amazon have some glitches in them. I checked tonight on Amazon's developer forums, and there are quite a few reports in there about search results - and particularly Kindle Books search results - not working properly.

I'm hoping that this will be resolved as the changes get shaken out by Amazon. I'll keep on it and keep you posted.

Hmm... I'm not sure this "index" issue will be remedied as we hope...

As an Amazon Affiliate (and I'm probably not the only one) I was dismayed to find today that I am no longer permitted to include Kindle books in my aStore, nor to link to them directly via the usual Affiliate methods.

IF the Kindle Boards Link Maker runs off the same Affiliate engine (which I suspect it does, since the URLS generated here always include a Kindle Boards Affiliate code) then we may not be able to use the Link Maker to link to Kindle books. UNLESS Amazon changes its mind about allowing Affiliates to link to Kindle books, which I have emailed them about. Might not hurt for them to hear some more voices...

Even if the 2.0 link maker doesn't work, the older, and somewhat clunkier 1.0 version always has for me.  My understanding is that it's just the automation that's not working because of the change in database protocols or whatever.

The Kindle e-book links we make with Link-Maker 1.0 are indeed affiliate links; not that it matters since affiliates stopped receiving a percentage of Kindle sales months ago.

pidgeon92-

Well, it sort of does matter to me... I linked to Kindle books in my aStore, not for the referral commission, but as a convenient and attractive way to group all my Kindle offerings. Now I'm trying an Amazon Author page instead, but it's much less of both (convenient and attractive). :\

What I was trying to say was that Harvey's original link-maker just uses code to make the affiliate link. I don't know how you create yours, but I imagine you could code it yourself as well. You might want to talk to him and see if that is an option for what you are trying to accomplish.

OOHHH! Gotcha. :)

Well, I had my Kindle books in my aStore, but now they show up as blank spots, and when I try to add new ones I get a notice from Amazon that Kindle books can no longer go in aStores, so I think I'm S.O.L. with that. But I'll try the alternate method for links here on Kindle Boards, anyway.

Thanks for clarifying!

I am having trouble with Link Maker 1.0.  Are there different instructions for a Mac using Safari to get the picture link?

If you are using Safari, right-click on the picture and choose Copy Image Address. Then paste that to the Image URL field.

On a Mac, there is only one button on the mouse, so there is no "right click", do you know what the alternative is?

It depends on your mouse... the Mighty Mouse does indeed do right-click.... If you only have a one-button mouse, you can do a right-click by holding down the  CONTROL button when you left-click.

Boyd, the 2.0 version of linkmaker is not working as designed due to a change in how Amazon allows access to their database.  But if you look on the top of the page, you'll see there's a link to Harvey's older version 1.0 which does work.  You have to find the book on Amazon and paste in the ASIN and then enter text or copy the image location for an image link.  Once you create the links, you can select and copy and past which ever you prefer for posting here.
