A request from the female authors here...
« on: December 21, 2010, 07:35:35 AM »
I'm prepping a short story, and I am humbly requesting to use one of the profiles of our lovely female authors as a base model for a primary character, who happens to be a female writer.  I'm looking for suggestions from people here for a female who has a-for lack of better way to say it-"attractive in a dark way" face.  Somebody who can blend seductive and sinister into a single smirk.

Gentlemen, if you can vouch for seeing any of our female author photos, I'll take your comments for suggestions as well.

Thank you.

I'm thinking this could backfire on you. Writers should not base a character on anyone recognizable. My best suggestion is to look around in cyberspace for the dark/sinister/seductive face, then you can make her anybody/anything you want.

Good luck.

Well, I can see that as a possible promo for the female author?  I'm not sure that is what you're after (and this whole thread is likely to be moved to the writer's corner.)

It's not a bad idea so long as it isn't too "commercially" but I am also not certain anyone would look up said author.  But then, maybe that is not what you are going for?

I'm just looking for a face to model, and I was trying to include somebody here for the fun of it.

Fun! It's too bad many of the authors don't use their real images, only avatars.   :D

Sorry, not a female author.  And more medium green than dark green.

Personally, I think J Dean would be better off coming up with a fictional look rather than posting someone from here.

Also, on a nitpicky note, at first glance your thread title confused me.  I thought it was the female authors here with a request.

Sorry, not a female author.

I did intentionally overlook that, and I recommend the OP do the same. Otherwise, I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a female author around here with some bite.

Also, I've just allowed one author to kill me off, so...

Sorry.. it should say "A request FOR the female authors here..."

And I regret the confusion this seems to have caused.  I was only trying to include a known author for a base instead of trying to go the "oh-it's-obviously-Angelina-Jolie" route or something.

Perhaps I should not have brought this up.  Forget that I posted this.

I don't think it's such a bad thing. I have people ask me to use them as characters all the time.  (makes them feel special I suppose)  If someone allows you to base your character on them, I don't see what the problem is.

Reining In and Phantom Rising are only 99 on Amazon Kindle.

I told you I'm the nit picker, so the from/for thing is just me being me.

As to the request itself, I think some people will find it flattering.

And nope, if you were thinking it, and you were doing it for good reasons, you should post it.

That's me in my avatar. Of course, most people probably figured that out already. :) If I was gonna adopt someone else's pic for my avatar it'd be someone a lot better looking. ;)

While I don't fit your specifications, I just wanted to say that is the real me and the real Apple Parrot in my avatar, as well. :)

And yes, my vote goes to McAfee, have you seen him in drag? Check out this thread http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,29976.0.html  for some inspiration. :)

Tell you what-if you're interested, LADIES (sorry, David), volunteer a pic of yourself on this thread.  I'll look through them and announce a winner.

Again, let me be clear: I won't be posting your pic as a cover or anything like that.  I just wanted to pay homage by using a face as a base for a character description.  I've got a story in mind, and the part I need the face for is for a woman with subtle wickedness written on her face.

So... if you're interested....

BTW, I only need a face profile.  Nothing full bodied or anything.
