Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Which Kindle is your favorite?

I have Voyage. Bought an Oasis when it first came out and hated it. I gave it to my mom who enjoys it.

I noticed that Oberon doesn't have a lot of designs like they used to a few years ago. They only have the most popular designs and certain colors. The Spiral Celtic as a example. I know it was a popular design but they got rid of it now. The Singing Wolf they didn't have for a long time. And I don't see the purple color option anymore. They haven't come out any new designs for a long time as well. I think one new design this past year? I was actually looking to get the Waterfall small journal and repurpose it for the Paperwhite and Voyage. But I can't get that either. It was a beautiful design especially in sky blue color. The choices are limited now. I'm in the process of repurposing my cases from older Kindles. I have 4-5 cases ranging from the kindle 1 and Kindle 3. It's easy to repurpose them for the smaller Kindles. But I still wanted to buy a new case to celebrate buying a Voyage this weekend. The other cases that I bought were from the kindleboards buy and sell section. So I was lucky to get them at a great discount. I have to agree that Oberon's prices are high. And I think they should lower the prices now. Otherwise they won't get a lot of business with the cases for Kindles, Tablets and such. I can tell there isn't a high demand anymore for their cases. Because when I went on E Bay I noticed that there wasn't a lot. In fact only a few. Even the journals I didn't see many at all. Now a few years ago I had seen a lot. And even on the Kindleboards I don't see any either. Only been a few recently. I hope Oberon changes things. I'd like to see them sell more designs again, and at reasonable prices.
They have over 50 designs for the journals and still offer the purple, though they call it orchid now and over 30 designs for the kindle. How many do you want them to offer? Or do you just mean that they've stopped offering some of the designs they used to offer?

Love my Oasis, but the back of the hump is quite the smudge magnet; which has me thinking about skins. Checked out the Decal Girl website, but wondering if the whole back is skinned if the Amazon cover (and battery) will still work. If not I suppose I could try and cut down the back skin for just the hump, but that would be a pretty expensive piece of plastic.
They should. The skin leaves the battery connecting point open so theres no reason it wouldnt work. And the skin is so incredibly thin it almost assuredly wont effect it in that way.

I guess we can be nutty together.  I also prefer reading on the Oasis with the cover.  Actually, I don't mind reading without the cover, just don't like taking the cover off and on.  I can't figure out how to take it out of the cover without feeling like the cover will someday separate from the battery.  It just doesn't feel sturdy to me.  And crazy as this may seem, I've come to realize that I don't like the buttons!  I cannot comfortably hold it without worrying about pressing those darn buttons, especially with my right hand and I'm right handed.  Makes no sense.  I can comfortably hit the screen (on my PW2 or the Oasis) to turn the page with either hand, no problem.  Wonder if the developers might make an Oasis for me with no buttons?  lol  I love the size and screen, just not the buttons.  Try as I might to convince myself otherwise, I think I'm going to return it. (sigh)
Add me to your nutty list.

I prefer reading my Voyage in it's Oberon to the Oasis.

I was excited for the buttons, but with how small the Oasis is the buttons are not in the right place for my hands. My thumb ends up right inbetween the two buttons instead of lightly resting on one of them. It makes it awkward for me.

The oasis will be going to my mom and I will be keeping my Voyage.

My velcro sticks with just the adhesive on the velcro. Nothing else needed in case you were curious.

MY favorite thing about the board is how helpful people are. Everyone is always open to answering questions and helping people with problems. I love it here.

Ordered Wifi + 3G, with a black cover to be delivered May 4th. It has special offers because without said it wouldn't be delivered until May 17th. I will be removing special offers as soon as it arrives.

And Sandpiper since you asked earlier, my total will be $413 once I remove my special offers.

I have one pre-ordered, but not sure I will keep it. Not sure I like the cover it comes with and I love my Oberon cover for my Voyage. I think Im going to really assess the users here who get it day of, and then decide if I want to try it right now.

Wifi+3G, with special offers (that I will buy out of later), in a black case. Set to be delivered May 4th.

You could center it and add velcro, which is actually very easy, but you'd have a lot of extra space along the sides.

I'd personally take it as an excuse to buy a new cover.

How long have you had the cover?

The coloring may not have been uneven when you bought it, but is now uneven from use and oil from your hands.

I've used mine with the charm on the elastic since I bought one for my K2. Absolutely no issues.

I'm not really sure what size I used. Maybe 1/2" or so? Maybe a bit bigger?

Nice looking covers, but no hole in the back to access the power button, or as you mentioned, nothing mentioned about auto-wake.
Googling around for "leather kindle voyage cover" led me to this website:

http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/home/lindasgarden/0/0/419694

These look pretty interesting. The leather covers are handmade, and the kindle is mounted by Velcro (wish Oberon would do this). The covers aren't too expensive. Since the auto awake feature isn't mentioned, I'm assuming it's not available (bummer). Wonder if this could be added. I'm going to contact the seller and ask. Will update post if I get a response.
Oberon doesn't offer the velcro option, but it is SUPER easy to remove the straps and add your own velcro. Oberom will make a the case without the straps for an extra $25.

I have pictures of the process as it is what I just did to my Oberon cover ad few weeks ago. I absolutely LOVE it.

The velcro does give enough clearance to be able to press the button on the back in my case.

You know, if you're not going to use the straps anyway, you might ask Oberon if they'd make you one that leaves the straps off.
I did ask and they said they would, but that it would be considered a custom order and they would charge an extra $25. That's when I decided to just do it myself.

Ya. Once Oberon stopped offering the Velcro option, I stopped buying them for my Kindles. I finally just decided to buy one and give it a shot myself and I'm so glad I did.

The elastic straps aren't hard to take off you can just cut them in the back and if you cut them either close enough to the rivets or cut to the rivets, the elastic just pulls out and it leaves the panel almost 100% flat.

Yep. Two pieces of Velcro. They are actually both attached the the back of the kindle in those photos. The fuzzy side attaches to the back of the kindle and then the rough side attaches to the inside of the cover. It's just adhesive Velcro you can get at Walmart. I did use the industrial strength, but I don't think you necessarily need to.

Oberon does put a magnet on the inserts so the kindle does wake upon opening the cover.

And don't worry about the questions. I LOVE the cover and will happily answer any questions ou have.

I ordered my Voyage Sunday night and Ordered an Oberon cover with it. I've always loved them and had them for every Kindle I owned until they stopped the Velcro attachment option.

Since they are using elastic straps with them now I am going to cut off and remove the straps and add my own velcro to the cover and use it that way.

ETA:I'll post pictures as soon as I receive it.

I ordered, and will be receiving a Voyage, with 3g and no special offers tomorrow. However, I have had some things come up and can no longer afford the price.

I thought I'd offer it here first for anyone who wants it, I can ship it out Wednesday first thing without even opening the box.
