I also took on a few commissions. Here's three of a series:

Here is a picture of mine https://goo.gl/photos/kJr7xHCncij4GFPe8. It is just a self tapping metal/plastic 3/8" long Phillips round head screw. You won't have any trouble finding it in a hardware store but you may have to buy a whole package of them. Anything that would fit the diameter of the hole and is not longer than 3/8" and screws down flush with the holder would  work since you are only going into soft plastic.

Absolutely perfect! Thank you so much!

I'm not at home but I found this reasonably sized picture online: http://pictures1.kyozou.com/pictures/_28/27893/27892715.jpg

Does that help?

Thank you! Greatly appreciated.

If you have an Alphasmart Neo, could you do me a favour? Could you take a picture of the screw which holds the batteries in place?

Mine didn't come with one, and I'm tired of fishing loose batteries out of my bag. I'd like to find a replacement, if possible. Thank you!

The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne
The Magic Ex Libris Series by Jim C Hines
The Craft Sequence by Max Gladstone (this is probably more high fantasy than urban, but the settings play a huge part in the story)

And my own offering is in my signature. If you don't have KU, just message me here or on the prawny FB group, and I'll send you a copy. I'm glad to see you're distracting yourself.

5
Avery342 -- I sent you a message earlier on Kboards. Or at least I hope I did. Did it get to you?

6
I'd love to join if there's still room! Let me figure out my FB password so I can log in from the desktop and join.

Edit: The $0.60 I earned so far today lets me qualify, yes?  :P

I have this thread bookmarked, because I feel the same pain regarding blurbs:

Good luck!

The latest version sounds like he was in a coma for two years due to a swimming accident. I think some of the previous versions were clearer on the missing time.

I think even that little shift helps balance it out. :) How are you feeling about your cover now?

Looking good!  :) The colour band at the bottom really helps the title pop. I'd suggest shifting her and the background upwards a bit. Make use of the space so more of her can be seen. I'd also suggest a cleaner font for the series title. Since it's an unusual word, you want it to be as clean and legible as possible. Watch that you don't scale your fonts to an extreme. The word "Symbols" looks really squat compared to the other words. Keep going! You're nearly there.

That's looking pretty good now. Keep playing with the colour of the text. It's still disappearing into the background. Maybe try adding a layer between the background and the title, and applying a gradient fill with transparency. So you wind up with a band of solid colour under the title that fades up to nothing. Like in this image, the reddish colour under the author name.

I'd also suggest using a cleaner font for the series title. All those swoops get messy in the thumbnail. Are you using Cinzel Decorative? Try just the plain Cinzel. You might also try using the plain for your name and then use the Decorative version for certain letters.

The hours you're putting into this cover are really starting to show. It's looking more and more polished on each iteration.

Thanks all for your comments and votes.

I saw this one while browsing today, and thought of you!

It's from thebookcoverdesigner.com (I think she goes by plumstead on the forum?)

I'd also add that I've worked with both Heather and Melody and they are both fantastic! Can't recommend enough.

Thank you for the shoutout, Evenstar. Yup, that one's mine. =)

OP -- I'm also happy to work within your budget, so drop me a line if you want to chat.

?? But Damon is the bad boy, not Stefan.

Any day now, my children will sleep through the night and my missing brain will regenerate. Aaaany day now....

I can't talk. My heroine chose the bad guy over the boy scout. I rewrote some scenes to make him a little less murderous. I guess I'm more Team Stefan than Team Damon.

Do you prefer premade covers with generic text, or covers with filler text? Eg:

Thanks!

Writers' Cafe / Re: Cover Opinion?
« on: May 07, 2017, 06:16:42 AM »
Since he's so small in frame, I don't get a sense of power, or the larger-than-life-bad-boy vibe I associate with MC romance. He's also too clean-cut. I suggest worrying less about nailing (TWSS!) the character's traits and focus on the feel of the genre.

Maybe I'm just excited about Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but I've been feeling the SF covers lately.  ;D Here are a couple of premades:

These aren't up on The Cover Designer yet, so if you're interested, please email me at:
plumstonebookcovers[AT]gmail.com

You can also email me if you're interested in commissions or have any questions. Or if you want to gush about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That's cool too.

The rest of my premades can be found here:
https://thebookcoverdesigner.com/designers/plumstone-book-covers/

I'm also working on a site, so keep your eyes peeled! Thanks for looking.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Opinion on a PNR Cover
« on: May 03, 2017, 06:29:53 PM »
I think it's pretty clear it's a romance, but the PNR isn't coming across. I would say it was a billionaire bad boy book. Can you apply a cooling filter over the entire image? Push it more towards the blue, and then use a contrasting red for the text? I think the title could use some visual interest too. It seems a bit plain.

Edit: Here's my five minute lazy tweak:

Personally, I think you should have gone to see her in your yacht and hand delivered it. How selfish of you after she went to all the trouble to write an email!

Now all I can picture is that scene from Romancing the Stone:

Salt Creek Rising is on my radar! I think I spotted it on Goodreads somewhere, and it's on my TBR list. I'll be watching your launch with great interest. =) Good luck!

Writers' Cafe / Re: Help for fantasy blurb
« on: April 02, 2017, 11:49:36 AM »
I laughed in a good way. That blurb makes me want to read the first page to see if the fun tone carries through the story. I'd suggest "... reduce HER people..." to make it a bit more personal.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Blurb Help for Urban Fantasy Romance
« on: March 31, 2017, 05:53:12 AM »
I prefer the second blurb, too. I did get tripped up on the dark prince. On my initial skim, I read that as a reference to Luc. Can you introduce the dark prince when you mention the Netherworld? "....Where elemental guardians are the only thing preventing domination by the dark prince of the Nether world."
