Let's Talk Kindle! / Oasis Screen savers
« on: May 07, 2016, 06:19:10 AM »
I'm sure this has been asked somewhere but after looking and searching, I can't find it.  What are the screen savers like on the Oasis without special offers?

Other (non-Kindle) eReaders / ePub Devices
« on: February 17, 2015, 09:58:19 AM »
As I start reading more library books, I find my library being slower to have Kindle format ebooks so I've been thinking about getting another device.  I'm thinking probably Kobo as Nook seems to be falling way behind.  Anybody have an opinion?  Thanks.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Goodreads on Kindle
« on: October 27, 2014, 03:57:19 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has had this problem.  Do you use Goodreads on your Kindle?  Is it accurate?  Didn't realize when this happened but my Kindle says I'm currently reading 20 books.  That should be 3.  No matter what I do to it, it still says 20.  I emailed Amazon.  The Goodreads Team Lead had a couple of things for me to try to reset the cache but nothing worked.  I received another email today saying I should go to Manage My Applications.  Geeez Louise!  I had to remind the guy I have a PW2 and a Voyage.  Neither of these devices use Applications.  Or have I missed something?  I've looked everywhere in Settings but can't come up with Manage My Applications not even in Settings on Manage My Kindle.  It really isn't important, just one of those things that is annoying.

The new price from Oberon is $74 plus shipping.  I will let it go for $65 including shipping.

Please PM me if you are interested.

Kindle Accessories / I Know Oberon was making sleeves...
« on: March 07, 2014, 11:45:33 AM »

If they are still making them, would someone please send me in the right direction.

Let's Talk Kindle! / It's Stupid Question Time
« on: February 27, 2014, 07:44:50 AM »
With still a lot of talk around about the Basic Kindle, or baby or whatever we are calling it, I saw a couple of posts calling it the K5.  Last I knew, it was called the K4 but I'll be the first to admit I have lost track of the numbers.  Has there been another update?  Or was that just referring to the update when it went from gray to black.  I bought mine in July, 2013 but there were new Kindles out when... September was the PW2.  Just wondering if anyone remembers if there was another update to the Basic at that time.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Reading Speed
« on: February 12, 2014, 04:14:51 PM »
Has anyone noticed that their reading speed is waaaaaaay off on the PW2?  I thought mine was off but never actually clocked it.  I was at a point that said 5 minutes to the end of the chapter and after 12 minutes, I was still a page short of the end of the chapter.

This is one of my favorite features and it's kinda upsetting that it is so far off.  Is there a way to reset it, or make it relearn one's reading speed? Or something?

Sorry for the stupid question.  I haven't had one in quite a while.  :D

Let's Talk Kindle! / Downloading a book to more than 1 Kindle
« on: August 27, 2013, 02:51:38 PM »
Ok, I feel really stupid even asking this question.  Is there a way to download a book to another Kindle, other than going through MYK and sending it to the other Kindle?  I am usually reading on 2 Kindles - 1 at home and the other being the Baby that I carry in my purse.  The other day I forgot to load the book I was currently reading onto the Baby in my purse and couldn't figure any other way to get the book on the Baby.  I tried going to the Kindle Store but it didn't show that I owned the book at all.  Is there another way?

How do you find how much space has been used/is left on the KK?  I've tried everything I can think of but not having any luck.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Support of Indie Writers
« on: June 11, 2013, 04:19:35 PM »
Fishing for opinions...  I have Amazon Prime and recently I've been trying to use my free book every month.  I ran across a series through the Prime Lending Library, read book one - loved it, waited for the next month (June), got book two - am in the process of loving it as well.  There are 2 more books in the series.

Sooooo...  my question is - should I keep on getting one book a month through the Prime Lending Library OR because I really like the series, do I support the indie writer and buy the other books in the series.

Any opinions out there?  :)

Let's Talk Kindle! / Font Size
« on: April 21, 2013, 04:48:09 PM »
I'm sure someone has posted this before but I searched and couldn't find anything.

Has anyone asked Amazon about the size of the font and returning it to the old size BP (before Paperwhite)?  I just emailed them to ask if they have any intention of changing the size back to what it previously was.

Just wondering.

I was doing some reorganizing of books today.  I have a collection named Nightstand for the books I plan on reading next.  I moved some books out, some in and at after finishing the Kindle says there are 4 books in the collection but there are only 3 books.  This isn't a serious problem, just an annoying one.  Was wondering if anyone has experienced this.  I even did a restart and that didn't change anything.  All the other collections have the correct number of books.  I also tried adding/deleting books with exactly the same results.  The number always shows 1 more than there is.

I would like to sell these together.  The Fire is the HD model 7" WiFi only, 16 GB, no Special Offers.  The case is the Amazon case in black. Both are in excellent condition, like new and I'll include the wall charger too.  Purchased on September 14, 2012.  Absolutely nothing wrong with either the Fire or the case, I just prefer iThingies but not the weight/size of the iPad so I went for an iPad Mini.

The case sold separately on another site so I just have the Fire and the charger.

Asking $125   Free shipping in US.  Payment by Amazon GC.

I remember someone mentioning their carousel re populating itself even after items are removed.  Is there any solution to this?

Fire Talk / Audio Files Appearing - Unwanted? - on Fire
« on: November 05, 2012, 06:31:45 AM »
Another of my Stupid Question of the Day questions..  When I do the pull-down screen on the FireHD, it shows the various functions, lock, volume, brightness, etc.  Then below that is the current battery data from the BatteryHD app.  Sometimes, not all the time but a good deal of the time, there is an audio file.  Right now it is showing Reflected in You.  I just looked on the Amazon page and it shows the book "Whispersync Ready".  hmmmm....  So does this mean that if the play button is accidentally activated, Amazon will charge my account $8.99??  I've finished reading the book and I can't seem to find a way to make this audio file go away from my Fire.  I'm kinda afraid to try it out as it could be a very expensive "trial".  Anyone know any more about how this works?

P.S.  This "immersion reading" is a feature I'm sure I will never use because I don't do well with audio books and #2, it is too expensive.

Fire Talk / Stoopid Question of the Day
« on: October 27, 2012, 11:28:07 AM »
I asked this once before but the answer wasn't the right one.  Not that the whole thing has much importance, just my curiosity.

Question:  What does KFTT stand for?  Obviously the KF is Kindle Fire.  TT?

One of the mediators said Tap-A-Talk however this abbreviation is used on the battery monitor app.  Don't think they would have referred to the Kindle Fire with a Tap-A-Talk appendage.  lol

Any ideas??  BTW, FWINW, I LOVE the Battery app.  It's a great one.  I had the BadA$$ app for the previous Fire and recently saw they have it upgraded to work with the Fire HD so I downloaded it.  After a comparison study, I like the Battery better.  It's even better without the ads... for a mere $2! :)

Fire Talk / Is this something new?
« on: September 27, 2012, 03:23:28 AM »
or did I just not notice that the Kindle Daily Deal is now on the Fire in Offers.  I always look at the Daily Deal, seldom buy but would hate to miss a good book at a lower cost and this is much more convenient than going to the Amazon site although still have to go there for the Android Free App of the Day.  Or not.  Could just come to Kindleboards.   ;D

This is strange.  My Kindle Touch and the Kindle Fire won't connect to my home WiFi but the iThings will.  And the Roku is connected too.

Anyone having/had a similar problem?  I've re-entered the password about 110 times so far but nothing!  :(

Let's Talk Kindle! / Selling Baby (Mini, K4, etc.) Kindle
« on: December 28, 2011, 05:39:17 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the place to put this or even if it is an appropriate question for Kindleboards.  I would just like to get the opinion of others on what I should do.

I bought a Kindle (Baby) in October, the 15th to be exact.  It was the model with Special Offers, which I ended up doing a buy-out on so we're looking at $109, instead of $79.  When I first got it, I was absolutely in love.  But as time went by, I started having issues with pressing the page turn buttons.  Now, I will be the very first one to admit that it could very well be operator error.  The left side turned fine, easily, the right side just seemed to be at the wrong angle for me to press it down.  I futzed around and futzed around with it.  Finally, after a few discussions, someone recommended I look at the Touch.  While it isn't without a problem or 2, it works beautifully for me.  (Problem not really the device but once again, the user.  Like goofing up and dragging your finger across the screen when handling the device without having locked the screen!  ;D  Anyway, I digress.

I would like to sell the Kindle because I have no use for it nor even anyone to give it to.  I had a couple of cases for it and I was able to return those but the time has elapsed on the return for the Kindle itself.  Do you think, given the problems I've had that I should sell it?  If so, how much?

I would appreciate any thoughts.  Thanks!

Fire Talk / OCTOVO Stand
« on: December 11, 2011, 02:13:53 PM »
I just ordered an easel-type stand, made by Octovo (or is it Octavo?).  Anyway, has anyone gone is this direction?  I thought since I really don't want a case and am quite happy with the Amazon zippered sleeve for my Fire, this would be good for those times when one needs to prop it up for video watching, etc.

hmmm....  I was going to post a pic of it but the link thingie isn't working.  :(
