Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: For those who bought the New Oasis without a cover
« on: November 05, 2017, 11:14:34 PM »
I was worried when I heard about the aluminum back. It sounds premium, but I'm not looking for a good look, I want to hold the device for hours and not feel like it's falling from my grip.
The fact that people need to look for ways to "fix" the device just shows me that Amazon didn't get it right this time. Comfort before style, always.

I'm still trying to decide on keeping the 2017 Oasis or my regular Oasis.  I like the size of the first better but I do like the waterproof part.  I don't like the cover at all.  It doesn't stay on when you bend it back like the first Oasis cover.  Also the stand on the cover doesn't work well.  I got the blue waterproof cover.

I would return the new one so in a year from now I would have a better reason to upgrade to the newer model that will be released :)

Yes it was on chat.

let's hope that the guy I've spoken with was drunk.

I was told by an Amazon rep that the current Oasis will receive the black/white update  :(

Did you talk to him on chat?

And guys, if you have the Oasis, first to his name, maybe also try checking about the update.

"I'm sorry currently there was no update about Night mode feature to the First generation oasis, but no worries, We'll consider your feedback as we plan further improvements. Customer feedback like yours is always important to us. I'll be sure to pass your message along to the appropriate department as we continue to improve the Kindle experience for our customers."

I saw someone said that in this thread, but I read on Engadget’s article that a rep told them that the black on white feature actually required some hardware tweaking on the new Oasis. That to me indicates that it won’t be coming to any older devices but I think it’s kind of unclear...

The guy that wrote in this forum about the old Oasis getting the upgrade, said he talked with an Amazon rep.
Maybe I should try talking with them as well. I really want this feature.

The new Oasis will have that and also will have inverted white on black. That is not coming to old devices.

From what I understand from this forum, the first Oasis will also get the Black and White update.

The side bezel of the new kindle, where the buttons are, is hugh. Why so big? And the buttons seems to be too much to the side, instead of being in the center of the bezel.

I just chatted with Amazon rep and I was told that the first Oasis will get the black/white upgrade.  He couldn't give me a date.

Amazing news! Now I really have no need to upgrade:)

The font stuff (more sizes and weights) and reversed white/black features will be coming via update for Kindle Paperwhite gen 6 (‘PW2’) and later Kindles (PW g7, Voyage, Kindle 8gen, Oasis 1).

What makes you say that the older Kindles will get the White/Black screen feature? I didn't read anything about that, only about the font sizes and the audio thing.

You guys know what number of software this will be?
Cause I've tried downloading it from their site, but I don't think it's the updated version.

I wish for the new night mode to be in the original kindle Oasis. It shouldn't be such a big deal.

First thought - yey! Bigger screen and lower price!
Second thought - not including a cover, and the cover doesn't have battery. so the device itself is heavier and it will be almost impossible to read it with one hand. So... What's the point of this design if you can't easily hold it in one hand?

And the 12 lights instead of 10 is only reasonable considering the biggest screen.

I will skip this one. They actually made the Kindle itself more expensive and less easy to hold. Great.

Just wanted to say that I started reading with the BOLD amazon font, and it makes reading much easier.
It's not the prettiest of fonts, but the dark makes the letters pop out more.

So I've been reading the Oasis for about 2 weeks now. I enjoy reading it very much, however:
1. The light could have been better. there is a small different between the left side and the right side (More blue compare to more yellow). I have a feeling that that's just the way it is. I don't have any shadows on the side of the screen, so that's good.
2. the battery life - No matter what anyone say, I has the PW2 for 3 years, and the battery there was better than the one on the Oasis. The oasis does not last for months, not if you are more than an average reader.
I know that charging a devise once every 2 weeks is not a big deal, but Amazon has got us used to much better figures.
3. The "Waking Up" part when you open the kindle - Why? Older versions shouldn't open faster than a new version.
4. The buttons are great. just great.

By the way - did anyone here asked Amazon for a replacement cover? do they send a new one? do they ask for the old one back?
(I have a feeling that in about a year I will need a new cover).

Oh, and I also wanted to ask about the first charging of the buttery?
Should I wait until it's empty, or just charge it the way it is? (About 50% for the cover).

It's here! My Oasis has arrived (After a goshdarnn month!).
I know it's going to be small, but still, when I opened the box I couldn't believe how small it really is. Will be reading on it tonight.
I got the brown cover.

I think that it will be better to have a sleeve, so the cover won't get damaged.
Do you guys have some recommendation?
I heard that some sleeve damages the leather cover.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Reading Oasis laying down
« on: December 25, 2016, 09:00:53 AM »

I'm a little nerves about the reading experience on the Oasis, when laying down on the bed.
That is how I do most of my reading.

Do you guys find it comfortable? is it ok to hold it in one hand while laying down?

So... I caved.

When I first heard the price of the Oasis I was like, "is this a joke? no kindle should cost that much!".
I have the PW2, and I really like it. But I also keep reading reviews about how the Oasis is not for everyone, just for the few who really wants the best reading experience and are willing to pay for it.
The point is - I'm usually one of this people.
so the months went by, and the idea of buying the Oasis started to feel... well, not so weird. I mean, I do read a lot, and I can appreciate a good gadget if it's done properly. also, I haven't bought a new kindle in about 3 years, and before that I used to buy one every year. I thought about the Voyage, but it just didn't feel like the upgrade is really dramatic, and I didn't want to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading.

The Oasis seems like the kind  of upgrade that will affect the way I read, and the quality of my reading. Also, I can completely get the one hand reading stuff. makes sense.

So I've order mine (from EBAY not Amazon, cause Amazon don't really send it to Israel, and third party providers just make the price go up by about 150$).

Hoping to get it by the end of next week, and I really hope that it will be worth it.

Will keep you posted (unless my package will be somehow lost).

« on: September 28, 2016, 04:26:05 AM »
I also think the the next release will be a Voyage.
If they only stay with a PW and the Oasis, the case for buying the Oasis will be very weak. I mean, come on - it's almost 3 times the price. a joke.
And don't forget that kobo now has night light, that is much better for night reading. so I assume that Amazon won't wait too long to do something similar.

Oasis was for the hardcore fans, but it's far from being a big hit. you don't base your holiday sales only on a premium device that is not relevant for most readers.
So i'm gassing a new Voyage in the next 3-6 months.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle Oasis a total waste of money
« on: May 22, 2016, 11:58:39 PM »
I would personally be surprised f there was a new "anything" this year. I doubt they would want to eat into Oasis sales with a newer challenger.

I thing that they won't wait more than 2 years between Voyage's.
Because the oasis is for very premium users, I think that amazon will want another new option for the holidays.

It's annoying that you can never tell when something new might come up, and so you can end up buying something a few weeks before a new model is released.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle Oasis a total waste of money

I have a PW2, and although the devise is still great, I really wanted a new kindle this summer. but no, the price of the oasis is way too high, and I don't want to be depended on the case for some good battery life. keep in mind that it's not unheard of for cases to get lost or damaged, and then what?

The Voyage seems nice, but it's 2 years old now, and the reviews regarding the press "buttons" are not 100% positive.

DO you guys thing that we might get a new Voyage around October?

I'm done with them.

the nook and the kobo are much cheaper.

I went back through my Kindle device orders (ever notice how hard it is to find the actual devices amongst all the books you've ordered?).
My original Kindle was down to $359 when I purchased it in October 2008, but I had the Oprah coupon for $50 off so it was only $309.
My K2 was ordered on release day in Februaru 2009 and it was $359.
It wasn't until the K3 (aka Keyboard) in 2010 that the price went down to $189.
These were all before you had choices for wifi only and sponsored screensavers.

So I wouldn't be surprised if the price is higher on a new "top of the line" model, especially if it includes a case.

When it was a new kind of technology, yes, that was an OK price. but now, when more and more people are switching from E-readers to tablets, a price tag of 290$ is dumb.
I hate to see them turning into pigs when it comes down to pricing, cause the fire phone should have been a lesson to them.
