« on: December 07, 2013, 09:17:45 AM »
Would any NanoWriMo winners like to give me their Scrivener coupon.
I need an additional Scrivener license and Nano winners get a 50% discount. I didn't win Nano this year :(
Are any winners not using their discount code? I'd love to pick up a copy of Scriv for half price if you'd be willing to give me your coupon. Thanks. Its on the winners goodies page by the way.

Writers' Cafe / Scrivener vs Storyist
« on: December 07, 2013, 07:59:01 AM »
So I'm a huge Scrivener fan.
But I just downloaded a trial of storyist.
So far it looks extremely similar.
Anyone got any views or experiences with Storyist?

Writers' Cafe / Amazon Associates Program
« on: November 27, 2013, 09:40:49 AM »

I know a lot of people already use the amazon associate program. It's very simple. Your links to your other books at the back of your book are affiliate links, rather than just regular links. It allows you to track clicks on the links, and you also get money when people buy your other books, or Anything Else on amazon for 24 hours or so.

I just started doing it with my links and I'm at $142 so far this month. Someone bought xbox controllers, I got a few bucks. Someone else bought headphones, I got like $8. Every time they buy the rest of my series, I get 7% of the sale, on top of my kdp 70%.

If you have a permafree with affiliate links to your other books, you can make money on the permafree even if people end up buying things other than your books.

It's simple to set up. Simple to implement. If anyone needs help I'm happy to advise.
Have you guys got Amazon affiliate links set up on your books?

Are the sales very good?

Writers' Cafe / How big is your email list?
« on: November 24, 2013, 08:24:24 AM »
We talk about email lists on here a lot. I can't say I've had any great experiences so far. I'm just starting out with mailing lists.
I've been getting subscribers and I'm almost at 110 names now.
I haven't hit the list yet with a new release but I'm excited for when I do.
Anyway, I want to ask how big is your list and how much of an impact has it had on your releases.

I imagine that if you have a list of 10,000 say, you can get your new releases into the top 100 for example.
But I would love to hear actual experiences. How big of a list got you how much of a bang on release date?

I just want to show these off!! Also, i've switched my book covers to show these instead of the 2d book cover. Has anyone else tried this. I know it's common for box sets. Anyway, I'll update the thread if sales levels go up or down noticeably.

Writers' Cafe / Apple fighting back hard
« on: November 19, 2013, 01:01:08 PM »
I just updated my mac operating system to the new Mavericks thing. Along with millions of other mac users, I now have a new ibooks program on my menu bar, right next to itunes.

You can search right there.
You can ask for only free matches.
You can ask for only ibooks author created books.

I bet this is going to make a huge difference.
Get your [crap] on ibooks asap.

Writers' Cafe / Smashwords and Barnes & Noble
« on: November 19, 2013, 07:46:37 AM »
I had my books on B&N via D2D and they made sales in October.
Because my perma-free went to B&N via smashwords, I moved the rest of my books. I thought it would be better to have everything at one place.
Now I get no B&N sales as far as I can tell. Is Smashwords really slow at updating sales from B&N. How can I tell where my Smashwords sales are originating? Might I be making sales that I don't know about?

I feel like moving my B&N back to D2D. I can't go direct because I'm in Canada.

Writers' Cafe / Series and Volume Number question
« on: November 16, 2013, 02:54:07 PM »
So I have 5 books in a series.
I've entered the series name and volume number for each of them on the kdp book page.
Now I'm doing a box set of books 1-5.
Should I put 6 in the series volume box?
or 0?
or what?

Writers' Cafe / Amazon Deals in Books

Does anyone know how this list works? How can you make your book a 'deal' that gets included?

Writers' Cafe / Box Set???
« on: November 09, 2013, 06:12:09 AM »
I have a Romantic Suspense serial that's doing well (for me). It's 5 parts. Part 1 is perma-free and the others are $2.99. They average about 20k words each.

I just released part 5 yesterday.

My question from people with experience is:
Should I let things be. My paid sales across the 4 non-free parts are approaching 100 a day and I'm over the moon with that result.

Or should I release a box set of all 5 parts for a higher price? I was thinking $8.99.
Or a complete novel at the higher price. Rather than a box set.

Will releasing the entire bundle ruin my sales of the episodes?

Writers' Cafe / Breaking top 100 free. Any tips?

Writers' Cafe / Kobo Writing Death
« on: October 23, 2013, 06:52:46 AM »
So my books are all live on my kobo dashboard, but none of them come up for searches and I'm not getting any sales.
How do I contact them? I can't find a way to contact them at all.

Writers' Cafe / Did Kobo delete my books?
« on: October 19, 2013, 10:12:11 AM »
I can't find my books on Kobo. But they're still on my writinglife dashboard. Am I doing something wrong?
Or are they gone?
For example, The Way Down by Ardin Lalui.

Just wanted to share my little milestone. This is the first time I made over 50 sales in a month without doing a promo.
And it's only the 8th of the month.
I've changed things up, wrote some romance under a pen name, and it's going so much better than what I've written in the past.
I know it's small potatoes to most people on this board but I wanted to take a moment to say:
I couldn't have done it without you all.

Writers' Cafe / Keyword Categories How to get in?
« on: October 06, 2013, 10:00:56 AM »
I've used some of the recommended keywords to get into romance sub-categories.
But my books still aren't being listed. Do I just have to wait? Or should I do something? What can I do?

Writers' Cafe / Romance > Erotica no longer exists?
« on: October 05, 2013, 06:45:18 AM »
Just got this email from KDP.

I see that you have added the both the books to "FICTION / Romance / Erotica." The only Erotica category options available in the Kindle Store are:

Kindle eBooks / Arts & Entertainment / Art / Erotica
Kindle eBooks / Arts & Entertainment / Photography / Erotica
Kindle eBooks / Comics & Graphic Novels / Graphic Novels / Erotica
Kindle eBooks / Fiction / Erotica

Does this mean Romance / Erotica no longer exists? I can't see it on the store.

Writers' Cafe / Categories who to contact?
« on: October 04, 2013, 06:50:02 AM »
I'm having trouble with the categories for two books in a series.
Only one of my chosen categories is showing up on the product page.
The other chosen category is not showing up. Also the categories i've tried to get into using keywords aren't showing up.
Does anyone know the best way to get into categories?
Who do you contact at Amazon?

Writers' Cafe / Perma Free question.
« on: September 27, 2013, 02:05:00 PM »
How do you know if your title has gone perma free? Does it say the price is $0.00 on your dashboard.
Mine still says $0.99, and when I look up the book, it says $0.99, but i'm getting downloads pricematched to free.
Is this perma free? How do people know the book is free?

Writers' Cafe / Itunes How long does it take?

Just a quick question.
I uploaded two books to itunes directly recently.
How long should it take to get in the stores?

Writers' Cafe / Re Adult Dungeon
« on: September 16, 2013, 05:03:00 AM »
So I just put up a story and it got flagged for the adult dungeon. It's not that adult though. I emailed Kdp and they said they couldn't change it.
My question is, is this really that big a deal?
Should I republish it with tamer description and try and get it into the normal store?
Can I republish and still keep the same isbn?
Or should I let it stay where it is?

Writers' Cafe / Erotica vs Romance-Erotica Category Question
« on: September 10, 2013, 09:54:21 AM »
If I put a book in Erotica, does that mean it's in the adult dungeon and only people searching within that category will find my book?
