Kindle Accessories / Re: Skins for the new Oasis
« on: December 01, 2017, 10:34:24 AM »
I decided to skin my Oasis 2 also...first time I have done this in a long time.  I forgot how fun it is to shop at Decal Girl!  I think it does make it a little easier to hold onto.  I may remove the front decal if I find it distracting.

I have been using the Fintie cover for over a week.  Can not get comfortable with it ...too heavy for me .  It weigh 143 g and the oasis 2 weighs 191 g.  It just seems bulky and clunky.  Iíll be going back to a sleeve I think.  The padding on the front cover makes it even bulkier for the weight .  It does hold securely.

I hold it in one hand and use the pinky finger for a bit of support on the bottom, turn page forward with thumb (changed bottom button to forward vs backward).  If I need to go backward I need to hold it in two hands as my thumb does not stretch to top button.  This is exactly the same way I held the Oasis 1.  But I am not sure it would work if I was lying on my back.....

It gets better! On Thursday I got an email saying my delivery date would be revised and it would be here on the 15th. Then today I got an email saying it has shipped and will be here tomorrow! I haven no idea what's going on. I've never had this musical delivery date thing before....

I had something similar happen was supposed to be the 21st, then the 15th, and now tomorrow.  We are leaving tomorrow afternoon to be away for the week.  Wanna bet that Kindle is delivered just minutes after we leave?

I got an email saying mine would be delivered the 15th instead of the 21st.  But it hasn't shipped yet so we'll see if it really happens.  I actually would prefer the original date as I will be out of town when it comes and I now need to ask someone to collect it from my front door step so it doesn't sit there for days....

Delivery dates are indeed being pushed up. At least it happened to me. I ordered the new Oasis one day after it was announced and was given an expected delivery date of Nov. 14th. Early last week I got a message that the delivery date had been moved up to Fri. Nov. 3rd. It actually arrived on Thu. Nov. 2nd.

This has been what I have experienced every K  since K1!  (which is the only one I have saved although my husband still has one of my Paperwhites).  I keep checking my orders to see if it has moved up from Nov 21 delivery.  I could have it from my local BB tomorrow, BUT between the trade in on my Oasis 1 and some gift cards, I can get the purchase of this new Kindle down under $100.  Which means my husband will not even notice that the new Kindle is in circulation at home.  If I got and buy it at BB tomorrow he will most certainly ask about what it was that I bought.  Oh what I go through to hide my Kindle addiction.

« on: November 03, 2017, 07:03:07 PM »
I agree with poster above.  I bought it without the cover also.
I traded in my Oasis 1 , so I am suffering ha ha right now with just a Fire.
The whole charging cover thing for me did not work so I am hoping on this iteration to have a just a sleeve again.
We all see how it feels.

Well after reading the enabling thread I decided I wanted a new Oasis. Wasn't planning on it but the charging cover annoys me as I often read without the cover.  A little bigger will be nice...and actually the waterproof thing will be good for reading in the tub or while getting a pedi! I sent my Oasis in for trade in...hoping they will accept it for $100 value plus the $20 toward a new Kindle promo.  Will my additional Apple credit I'm getting closer to this purchase not being detected by my husband. LOL

I'm actually borrowing from the library more (mostly digital).
I also volunteered for some time with the helping people master digital technology at the library.

Many of my book club all with Kindles are also borrowing more at the library as price of Kindle books has gone up.

This is quite creative though and I hope libraries will evolve and stay with us....

My thoughts...if after you get the device you are feeling blasť or not that excited....return it.  I felt that way about the Voyage...but I gave my husband my Paperwhite and so justified it.  But I never bonded or really got excited about the Voyage.  It's fine and I have no complaints that are specific but it was not a necessary upgrade (for me).  Several members of my bookclub reported the same.

However on the Oasis, I am just over the moon!  This one is so exciting for me, I love it that much....  Not everyone will feel the same but this is my experience.  It has set a definite Kindle benchmark.

This is not to put down the Voyage lovers.  Maybe that is "your" device.  And if so, great!!!!  That is why I think Amazon is so genius with offering several models.

12
Yes I answered it as to how many are currently owned by me (on my account)...one is mainly used by my husband and I realized I forgot one that my mother has so I need to change my answer to 5. (she mostly reads on her Fire now but has my old Kindle Keyboard).  These Kindles would not be in use if were not for me so I am counting them.  I have owned more.  I still keep my K1 for sentimental reasons but never use it.

I was going to sell my Voyage, but I came up for a new justification for keeping it.  I have been borrowing books from the library but sometimes I don't finish in time before they are due and they go "poof".  So if I have one device that I can keep offline when I have a library book to finish, I can extend my borrowing time indefinitely!

Really enjoying these pictures.  I have not put a skin on a Kindle for years.  For some reason, the Oasis "wanted" one, lol.  I just realized Betsy's is a custom skin from her own quilt.  That is super cool.  I do paper collage and now I'm thinking maybe I'll do my own skin sometime....

This is the weathered wood and walnut cover on the oasis.  I was not going to skin the front but decided I like the lack of fingerprints.  I also like how the buttons sort of blend in to the wood grain.

16
I have been wanting to get a skin for my Oasis from DecalGirl but I was wondering if it would stay solidly seated in the cover or not hold as securely with the skin.  Are you saying that it is as secure with the skin as without?

It is very secure.  I held the Kindle up in the air by just the front cover and swung it and it stayed connected.  If i really jerked it around in the air, the Kindle came loose from the cover.  But it did that without the skin, so I would say the strength of the connection is the same.

The Book Corner / Re: Cozy Mysteries
« on: May 12, 2016, 03:03:20 PM »
I never even heard of cozy mysteries until about a year ago.  A woman I became friendly with writes them.  So hers are the only ones I've read but I have enjoyed them.

She writes a couple different series but the one I have read is the Myrtle Clover series (Elizabeth Spann Craig is the author).  Had no idea this was such a huge book niche.  I'm up to #6 in the series...A Body at Book Club.

I will try again....Decal Girl skin (Weathered Wood) on the Oasis:

Here it is with the cover closed.  I have not decided about putting on the front skin or not.

Cover is secure and battery charge no issue.  The device is a little less slippery in my hands and no fingerprints.

Memmo and Atunah:
I started out with the black case but (long story) ended up with the walnut.  OMG what a difference in tactile experience.  I am so in love with the walnut.  I just ordered a skin from Decal Girl in Weathered Wood. I hopeit will work well.

I don't think you're nuts.  Love my Oasis, but everyone is different.  Atunah makes a good point, switch back to the Voyage and see if it makes you miss your Oasis.  If it doesn't, you've got your answer!

Betsy

Great idea to make the comparison.  My Voyage just feels so big and heavy to me now.  LOL, who woulda thunk?  It could also have to do with the cover I am using....the Brown/Walnut cover feels so wonderful in my hands vs. the Origami.

This bezel does seem to attract more fingerprints than the Voyage - or I notice them more...  DecalGirl says they should have Oasis skins available next week!

Thanks, was just thinking about this very thing!

Great thread.....I really  had forgotten how I'd actually started reading ebooks on the Palm Pilot!  I had the original on that one and the original on the Kindle within months of its release.

So happy with the Oasis.  I think K1, PW, and the Oasis are the game changer Kindles, although I have owned most of the "between the chapters" devices as well.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Voyage vs Oasis
« on: May 04, 2016, 05:43:15 PM »
I compared my Voyage vs. Oasis at several settings in a pitch dark room and the only difference I can see is that the Oasis is more of a brighter/whiter screen at all the comparable lighting levels.  I took pictures and seriously this is all that I notice.

I can't see the unevenness or yellowness or scalloping that everyone else can.  I have great vision according to my eye doctor lol.   So I guess I am just happy that my eyes are not as sharp as others to pick up the flaws.

The form factor of the Oasis is wonderful for my personal taste.  The Walnut cover is simply scrumptuous.

After a week with the Oasis, I have to say I love it! I started with K1 (skipped K2 and the PW's after 1).  Otherwise I have owned most Kindle devices.

I just never bonded with the Voyage.  Maybe it was the Amazon cover that made it so heavy I always took it out.

The haptic feedback was not my cup of tea.  It was ok, but honestly I just didn't see the value vs. my Paperwhilte (which I handed down to my DH)

I love everything about this upgrade to the Oasis from the Voyage.  The Walnut cover is luxurious and this just feels like a small light and wonderful book in my hands. The weight out of the cover is so comfortable. The lighting is beautiful.  I read it out of the cover as well.  To me it is a huge change.  Love the buttons and everything about it.  I don't think I've been this excited about a Kindle since the K1.

I'm going to sell the Voyage.  My husband has been using it this week, but also says he is just happy to stick with his PW.

I have a question about covers.. I currently have the black cover and I do like that the amazon logo blends in.  From the pictures on this thread it looks like the Amazon logo is very dark/contrasting/solid on the Walnut cover, while on the Merlot color it is kind of in outline and not as visible.  Does that make sense and would you agree? Or is it just a photo lighting thing.
