That's really good. I like my aura one much better than all my kindles which are now wasting away in a drawer. I think kobo ereaders are just better all around than kindles are.

Fire Talk / Re: App problem
« on: January 11, 2018, 03:38:45 AM »
That's the problem with fire tablets. They use an older version of Android and just can't handle newer apps. On mine, I find they still work more often than not, but not always and there really isn't anything we can do about it.

I heard that most everyone has a problem with that app. I went with Sling TV and that works great.

I've never had that happen from the app store, but it does sometimes happen with sideloaded apps. I try turning it off then on and if that doesn't work I turn it off and then hold the power button for about 40 seconds. If that doesn't work for you it's time to call customer support.

Had to go out for a few hours this morning.  Home to my Show.  This Show was gifted to me.  :)  Thank you, my BFF.  It's in the living room.  Do I need a Show in the bedroom?  No.  Do I want a Show in the bedroom.  Yes.  It's on sale.  I'd find a place for my white Echo.  The black Echo could go to a new home.

In other words -- I am lovin' the Show.

I knew you'd like it. If you play music here's something you might not know about yet. Ask Alexa to show you albums of the artist or group you want and all their albums will come up. Just scroll through and either tell her what number album to play or just tap on it. It's really a nice feature.

I got one just for the heck of it and it turned out to be one of the best things I've bought in a long time. My Echo and Echo Dot now sit in a drawer. Having the screen just brings Alexa to life. I use it much more now than I ever used the other Echos. The screen makes all the difference in the world.

Yes. The wiki text shows on the screen and scrolls as Alexa reads it

I was going to wait for a Spot but got the Show instead. Now I'm really glad I got the Show. I really like it for music with the album art and lyrics. Personally I think it sounds a lot better than my Echo because it has dual speakers and stereo. I saw the last post and tried YouTube and sure enough it's back! I was able to sign in with a different email address and get my subscriptions. I like being able to do things like watch movie trailers and stuff. Now with YouTube back the Show is a must have.

They have it on sale today for $179.99 or $36.00 for 5 mo. This would be a great time to pick one up.

It'll be interesting to hear what they have to say. Hope this leads to a fix.

These things happen to me a lot, too. I spend more time in the Alexa app getting my Pandora stations and albums to play than I should have to.

I use my Kindle charger for my Kobo so there shouldn't be any problem.

I don't trust things like this that other people have owned. There's no telling how they treated them like dropping them and banging them around even though they might not have any visual signs of abuse. Amazon might determine that they're alright now, but they might not last as long as a new one. Personally, I would spend the extra money and buy a new one. It's not that much more.

Anything Else Amazon / Re: Echo Show lyric question

Well, on Fire Tablets, there ARE parental controls . . . .

Well, you got my curiosity up with that one so I turned on parental controls on my Fire tablet. My browser and email apps disappeared along with who knows what else. Many other apps were taken out of order, but my music app was still there so I brought up an album with explicit lyrics and guess what? All the lyrics were there.

I checked and the Show doesn't have parental conrols. That was a great suggestion though, thanks.

I wrote to Amazon and just got back their answer. This is what they said:

"Generally, the Echo show made for all age groups. So, currently the explicit lyrics are not available in Echo show."

i guess Fire Tablets are not made for all age groups, then.  :)

Anything Else Amazon / Echo Show lyric question
« on: October 13, 2017, 06:28:15 AM »
I just bought an Echo Show. After all the bad reviews I read I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be. I use it mostly for music and the stereo speakers sound much better than my Echo and gives it more bass. The only thing I'm finding weird is that when the lyrics are showing all the explicit lyrics are blocked out. This doesn't happen on my Fire tablet. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere where I can turn the censorship feature off?

I finally got it. A day late but at least its here. Its nice. A lot better for watching videos on than my 8" . The hands free Alexa is nice to have on a tablet. Overall its a great tablet for a very good price.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: No feedback on Voyage page-press
« on: October 14, 2016, 05:28:11 PM »
My Voyage arrived this afternoon, and I really love it already. One comment/question: When I use page-press to turn pages, there's no feedback. I thought, from some of the comments here on KB, that there's a sort of vibration to let you know you've hit the right spot. This isn't a big deal to me, because I don't need a vibration to tell me I've turned a page ;D But I was expecting it. Is it something you can turn on or off? Just curious!

It never worked for me either and yes I did set it in settings. I decided it was no big deal so I didn't send it back.

Finally got back to FL yesterday and my KA1 was waiting for me. I'm really loving it!

Glad you got it ok. I'm loving mine too. I've read about fifteen books so far. Yesterday I went back to my Kindle and was shocked by how small it seemed. Kobo hit the ball out of the park with the Aura One.

Mine is in FL already! Unfortunately, I won't be there until the 20th. It's amazing how fast FedEx moved it from Hong Kong, once Kobo sent it. Slated to arrive at my local FedEx location on Tues. but could be sooner.

If Kobo hadn't caused the delay by questioning if my Delaware address was a P.O. box (it wasn't!), I think I could have had it before I left on my travels. I couldn't take that chance, so I told them to send it to FL to be safe. Then they blamed the delay on me for changing my address! Comedy of errors here but I have the new reader to look forward to when I get home. I guess delayed gratification is OK.

That would drive me nuts. Mine was in Hong Kong on the eighth and was delivered on the ninth. FedEx did real good for a change.

I ordered mine on Aug 30 from the Rakuten website. I haven't received any shipping notice yet. The Kobo website now says that they will be in stock on Sept 15. Can't wait to get it.
