Writers' Cafe / ISBN question
« on: December 19, 2017, 11:06:31 AM »
Hi all

this is a total newbie question, but I'm prepping for my first non-fiction full length release, and will be doing a paperback through Createspace and IS. I'm in Canada, so we have free ISBN's from the government, so am going to create them ASAP.  What I'm wondering is 1. Do I need to get one for my eBook and a separate one for my paperback? and 2. for the paperback back cover, do I need to provide the ISBN bar code to my cover designer or do createsapce/IS automate that if I enter the ISBN #? Where do I tell my designer to put the barcode or blank space?

Thanks in advance! This board has been such an amazing resource :)

Writers' Cafe / Re: How to choose paperback pricing?

I'm in the same boat, writing a non-fiction personal development book and it's my first full length book so I'm trying to figure this out as well. From what I've read/heard on podcasts non-fiction should be priced a bit higher than fiction. Somewhere $4.99-9.99 would be reasonable for an ebook I think. Since its my first and I'm unknown I think I'll start at 4.99 ebook/$9.99 paperback when I launch and see what happens.

Writers' Cafe / References in non-fiction
« on: November 14, 2017, 11:21:43 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm writing a non-fiction, personal development book, most of which is based around my own experience and learning. I do however want to reference some academic and other published work, and am wondering what is the best format for references? In University I used APA for my papers, but wondering if that's appropriate for a book?

Thanks for your ideas!

Writers' Cafe / Re: Non-fiction page counts?

I have the same question, as I'm working on my first project (a non-fiction personal development book). I think I've settled on 25-30k words or about 100-120 pages printed. I think for non-fiction that's completely reasonable.

Also, as others have said, it should be as long as it takes to convey the information you want. If you can do that in 25k words, there's no need for more.

Writers' Cafe / Non Fiction Wordcounts

Hi everyone,

I'm just starting out with self-publishing and am currently working on a non-fiction work on personal growth/self-improvement. Just wondering what would be an acceptable word count range for a non-fiction book in this genre? Plotting it out, I think I have 30k-40k words, and am wondering if that is too short?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi everyone, I just published my first work, a collection of self-reflection essays on Amazon for $0.99

I'm working on a full length non-fiction book for release later this year. Any feedback is welcome, thank you!
