Writers' Cafe / Re: Bookbub ad for UK only -- is it worth it?
« on: December 15, 2015, 06:00:44 AM »
I write UF and used them in October and had 113 sales. I didn't sell well in the UK, but  since the promotion it is my second highest market.

This is very disappointing. I've used them and had wonderful results promoting a book at $2.99 (125 sales) but the last two times I applied, they rejected me. Hmm.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Accepted for BookBub... but only in the UK?

I had a Bookbub UK promotion on October 7th during a 6 day Countdown Deal at $.99 . I don't sell well in the UK at all, maybe 2 books and 1-2k pages read a month and that's with two books in a series. I released the third one last month.  It was the only promotion I used.  I had 113 sales and 502 pages the day of the promotion and 70 more sales and 18,340 pages read the remainder of the countdown deal. As of today, I have 188 sales and 44,269 pages read of the book promoted, 22 sales  and 33,793 pages read of the other 2 books in the series. I reached #1 in Low Fantasy for three days and I am still in the top 20. The sales have decreased significantly and I am selling about 2 a day.

Great post :)  And next year with 12 books releasing, you should rocket up.

Be nice if people could recognize that without taking digs at other Kboards members though. Geez.  And we wonder why people don't want to share numbers?  I know I certainly won't ever bother with another results and ideas post here...

I really hope you will continue to post your results and ideas. I found it very informative and inspirational. Thank you for posting. :)

Writers' Cafe / Re: What Type Of Music Do You Listen To While Writing?
« on: September 13, 2015, 10:04:34 AM »
I've been listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey as I write my vampire stuff.   Dark, sinful, sexy.  :)

I write UF and I LOVE Lana Del Rey, but I also love: Sia, Laura Hoffman, Portishead, Stateless, and Zola Jesus. Dark and definitely sets the mood.

This is wonderful advice. Thank you so much for posting. I LOVE your cover!

Knowing that there are people that get my brand of "weird" and my quirky sense of humor.   (My readers really seem to get me.)
Creating characters that people love to hate and hate that they love.
Having a wonderful excuse to drink wine because creativity improves with alcohol, right? (Okay, maybe I just made that up.)
I don't make my own covers but I love working with my cover artist. I love the whole process.

Newbie here! I am trying to lurk less and interact more  :). I published my first book in May of 2014, my second in January of this year, and my third will be out next month. Since I've published, I've consistently made $500, often more and I have this forum to thank for it. Thank you! (cyber hug, high-five, fist bump,  or whatever you're like  ;))Hopefully, I will improve and consistently publish a book every four months, like I ambitiously plan.  My goal isn't to quit my full-time job, because I really like it; but I wouldn't mind working part-time.

Writers' Cafe / Re: The Site That Cost Me $77. Ouch!!

I wouldn't rule them out. I used them last month for a countdown deal and I had 56 sales 6 borrows. I don't consider it a total loss because they were the last promoters used for my five day deal. I can't help but wonder if my numbers would have been higher if I used them on the first day or even on day three.

Hello,

I lurked forever before I finally had the courage to say "hello". I still lurk more than I comment. Best wishes.  I am sure you will continue to find this forum very helpful.

For my first book, I had 8 beta readers. For the second, 6 and for the third 2. I would have loved to use the same 8 beta readers, but with their hectic lives, they didn't have time to read it before I sent it to my editor.

My biggest obstacle is that I don't actually enjoy writing.

I like plotting and planning and admiring the finished project and all that, but the actual act of sitting at a desk and writing for hours on ends bores me to tears, even if I'm really into what I'm writing. It's why I haven't quit my day job even though I make more money doing this in my spare time.

I feel the same way. I have a full-time job but I rarely work 40 hours a week (thankfully I'm salary), so I have enough time to write. There are so many stories that I need to tell, but sitting down at a computer for hours writing is difficult for me. Thank you for sharing this because I really thought something was  wrong with me. I purchased the Dragon and it still didn't help. Hopefully, the more I do it, the more I learn to love that part of the process.

Writers' Cafe / Re: The Midlist: Rejected, Accepted, Results...
« on: June 20, 2015, 09:14:24 AM »
I write contemporary/urban fantasy. In November 2014, I ran a promotion with them during a countdown deal ($.99) and had 69 sales. I ran another promotion, just before the release of my second book, at the regular price of  $2.99 in February 2015 and had 125 sales. I am still trying to make sense of it.

Can anyone share their results with using Midlist for a NON-FREE (0.99+) book?

I used them for my first book which was $2.99 prior to the release of the second one in the series and I had 125 sales that day. I plan to use them again when I release my third book. I write Urban Fantasy.

Thank you so much! As a lurker, I can not express how much I appreciate the members for sharing their experiences. This month is my anniversary and with two books published, and the third available in the next couple of weeks, I have this board to thank for the many things I've learned. :)

Hi

I am a first time poster; but a long time lurker. I just wanted to officially say hello and  thank you for all the help Iíve received from the wonderful members on this forum. Since I first published in May 2014, this forum has been my go-to place for just about everything and I can not express my appreciation.  :)
