The Book Corner / Re: Pretty Prose or Compelling Plot
« on: October 19, 2011, 08:37:15 PM »
A really solid novel (IMHO) has a great story that's told in great prose. The two kind of have to go together to make a novel jibe with me. And I've totally been there, where I've read a novel that started out promising (the voice was gorgeous and the opening even had some action in it), but after I was already halfway through, nothing actually happened. It's frustrating, like the voicing is more "eye candy" (or would "brain candy" be more appropriate? LOL), than there to serve the plot (if there is one).

The Book Corner / Re: Do you like it when characters die?
« on: October 19, 2011, 08:33:27 PM »
It really depends, for me. I don't exactly *mind* characters being killed off, provided they either A) deserved it (because everyone wants the total d**chebag to get it!), or B) there's a clear-cut reason for killing off the character (as in it's unavoidable due to a plot point). I kind of admire writers who aren't afraid of killing off cast members. Sometimes it makes the scenes more poignant. Sure, I'm sad to see my favorite characters die, but just like in real-life, death isn't something we exactly "like" happening either. It's just kind of there, and a natural part of life.

Thank you, everyone! =D

Introductions & Welcomes / Hello there! New avid reader and writer here
« on: October 16, 2011, 08:35:31 PM »
Hello, everyone! My name is Krystle, and I'm from Omaha, NE (originally TN!). I'm an avid reader of YA fiction (particularly epic and urban fantasy, horror, and paranormal romance), and I also write fantasy books for young adults. Some of my absolute favorites include: Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake, Beautiful Demons (Peachville High Demons, #1) by Sarra Cannon, Graceling by Kristin Cashore, Incarceron by Catherine Fischer, and Entwined by Heather Dixon, just to name a few (this post would be super-long if I listed them all! lol). I'm also a member at Goodreads - - where I have a more complete listing of favorites of mine (most of which are YA). I also have a website (, and a blog ( If you have a moment, please drop by and say hi! =)

I've been lurking around this forum for a month or so now, getting a feel for it, and I'm excited to finally be an active member! I'm really looking forward to discovering hot new reads, meeting like-minded authors and readers, and learning more about the publishing industry!
