Double check about the PayPal thing. One of the people I work with (and I pay more than $600/year) doesn't qualify for the PP and I still have to do the whole tax form thing.

No time to read the replies, but the exact same thing (same formatting errors) happened to my latest release. I emailed KDP support and they fixed it within the hour. The book itself was fine when purchased but the look inside was horrific.

The problem is, they will only set up two-step verification if you have a backup phone number. We got rid of our landline several years ago because it was never used. I could use my husband's cell phone as a backup but of course, he's often in one place and I'm in another, rendering it useless.

What about a Google phone number? They would email you or forward the call to your phone.

Hey Stacy. I'm joining the club. Hoping it keeps me motivated. I did 3018 words this morning. Not great words. But they're on the page.

Welcome, Lysa! Great work, words are words! A blank page can't be edited. I've been posting on the Thousand Words a Day Club thread. There are others with the 3k a day goal too!

3,116 and now in the last third of the book! The pace should really pick up, not that it's slowed much, being a thriller.

I'm excited to see where this goes!

...

Not sure how to say this without being rude but the indie community in general truly has Stockholm Syndrome... they cannot fathom how things could be different than how they are currently being done. No matter how much zon takes the screws to them, they are 100% convinced that zon only does what it does because there's no other model for selling ebooks that would work. It's pure lunacy and some serious competition, I believe, will show that it is.

Sure, the content mills and folks who have tailored their back catalog to KU will be forever stuck with zon, but that niche-trap that zon created is not what the future of ebooks will be (at least I don't believe so).

...

This is why Kboards needs a like button!

I get up and write first thing in the morning. No social media, email, etc. until I hit my world count for the day. Usually, that's 3k, but some days it's lower depending on life and if I'm working on another project.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Smashwords vs D2D
« on: January 26, 2018, 08:06:57 AM »
I've been avoiding Smashwords since 2012 because it's so difficult to use. I put up some perma-frees some time ago, but that's it. In the last few months, I've been receiving small payments from them which I should probably look into. Maybe it's from the library retailers? I really have no idea.

That said, D2D is easy to use and usually has quick, helpful support.

I have no idea what this will all eventually mean for indies, but I am glad to see the changes. It's even more exciting that they're all coming out so close together. This market is always changing, and I welcome anything that helps to expand the wide platforms.
