« on: April 28, 2018, 07:26:04 AM »
I've started to write mini posts on my blog about my thoughts on writing, and my journey in the world. I'm tweeting them out to my few thousand followers, but beyond that any ideas of how to promote those posts?

Is there a better version of the Amazon author dashboard? and is it possible to get your author data via an API? as I might be tempted to create my own app to view things better.

Writers' Cafe / Looking for Scrivener formatting expert
« on: July 22, 2017, 12:29:24 PM »
I use Scrivener to compile my book. The 2 books I recently updated look fine in the previewers (offline and on the dashboard previewer) and on the devices, but looks messed up in the look inside. I need someone who can fix the issue within Scrivener for me.

Writers' Cafe / Phrase or Exact search keyword for Amazon Ads?
« on: March 18, 2017, 12:41:39 PM »
This is a real basic question, but on setting up an Amazon ad campaign, I can't see how you change from a broad keyword search type to phrase or exact, or you can't? you only have the broad option?

Writers' Cafe / Amazon category for Space horror?
« on: February 28, 2017, 06:05:11 AM »
The latest book I'm writing is space scifi, but has horror elements as well, think Alien rather than Aliens.

It's unclear to me though what kind of Amazon categories it would go into, ideas?

Writers' Cafe / Predictions for 2017?
« on: December 24, 2016, 09:00:18 AM »
What's everyones predictions for the Ebook world in 2017? will the market continue to grow? or maybe it will be harder for indie authors? will BookBub continue to dominate paid promotion, or will FB ads be the main way to advertise books? Will it become more important for indie authors to promote themselves as opposed to their books, or will the main goal still be put out as many books as possible in the time you have?

Writers' Cafe / Which version of a book an Amazon reviewer has reviewed?
« on: December 02, 2016, 05:07:27 AM »
Is there a way to know which version of your book an Amazon reviewer has reviewed?

I'm planning out a new scifi series, and I've decided to write the first 3 and put them all out in one go to get maximum launch velocity. I think a lot of readers wait for there to be at least 2 books in a series, and probably 3 before they commit to it, so my plan is from now on to always launch with the first 3 books. What's everyones view on that?

Writers' Cafe / What’s a good monthly promotional budget?
« on: December 02, 2016, 05:01:35 AM »
Something that's become obvious to me over the past few months is that you need to spend money each month on promoting your book. How much though is a question. It's possible to spend say $20-$30 on one promotion, or you can go all the way up to around a $1000 for a BookBub. What I'm curious about is how much is a good amount to budget for?

The Book Corner / Good Steampunk novel?
« on: December 01, 2016, 05:22:16 AM »
I'm looking for a good steampunk novel for a Christmas present for my gf, any suggestions?

Writers' Cafe / Basic text formatting preferences for Scrivener?
« on: November 29, 2016, 08:23:06 AM »
I'm just getting my head into Scrivener for the first time. What seem's unclear, is what should the text formatting preferences be for a standard kindle fiction book? For example, what font, font size, indentation size etc.

Writers' Cafe / Can someone explain Bookbub to me
« on: November 15, 2016, 07:43:16 AM »
I know it's a giant mailing list. I know being "on it" gives you a huge boost. Equally though when I saw the prices (escapes me exactly where) they were astronomical.

So is it a question of, you spend $1000 to get back $3000? Are there any "cheap" bookbub options? I remember there being something where they can choose to promote you for free? or maybe I read that wrong.

Writers' Cafe / What pantsing method do you use?
« on: November 15, 2016, 07:39:36 AM »
It wasn't long after starting writing for the first time that I discovered that I'm a pantser. A term that I had never heard before until I entered the world of writing. I'm coming to the end of working on my 3rd book and going forward I want to try and develop methods that combine pantsing with plotting/outlining. And that's got me curious on what methods people use for pantsing, because I suspect pantsing for me is different for other writers, or maybe not, maybe we are all doing the same thing with out pantsing.

What kind of pantsing writing/methods does everyone use?

Writers' Cafe / Scrivener saving URL's question
« on: November 12, 2016, 11:48:18 AM »
I'm thinking of switching to Scrivener for my next series, but does anyone know if it's possible to save URL's in some way in the binder? Currently when I find useful information on a website, I bookmark the page, can you do something similar within Scrivener?

Writers' Cafe / What do sales settle down too?
« on: November 04, 2016, 08:27:20 AM »
I've got 2 books out and my sales and page reads are doing fine. But I'm wondering, is it a case that sales/page reads eventually fall off to nothing if you don't do any promotion, or will they settle down to a solid base of daily sales/page reads without any promotion?

Writers' Cafe / Pen name in these genre jumps?

Writers' Cafe / How important is print to eBook sales?
« on: October 21, 2016, 01:35:33 PM »
I'm thinking creating some print versions of my eBook. What's everyones opinion on what benefits it might have for the EBook sales?

Writers' Cafe / Status update in Goodreads?
« on: October 08, 2016, 10:31:06 AM »
Anyone know where the status update button is in Goodreads? I can see add blog post or add a comment, but nothing referring to status update.

Ideally beta readers would read my first book in my series, before beta reading the 2nd. But how do I supply that first book to them? Can I supply then with a .pdf file of the first book? or it has to be a .mobile file?

So this is question which is all wrapped in branding, and online presence and all of that. Authors usually I think are introverted (as I am) and might find it hard to promote themselves. So how important is that to selling your book? and even if you are fine with projecting yourself online, could who you are, or how you come across harm possible book sales? I guess an obvious example of that might be people expecting a horror writer to be into dark things, and wears black all the time, etc etc and not a married mum with three children living in the burbs.

Or readers get into your books because of your stories and who you come across in your branding/online presence matters not?
