D'awwwwww!!! Y'all are making me blush! :P

Seriously though, thanks for the kind words--I really appreciate them. To anyone considering putting any time into a podcast, I would say: know what the rewards will be, and work for them. The biggest reward from The Book Speaks Podcast, by far, has been networking like this with such an excellent community. Y'all are the best!

Now if only I could write as consistently... (back to the keyboard... dragons and vampires and witches and spaceships and things to type about ;) )

I'M ON THE TRAIL. DAN DAN THE LAME NOVEL MAN WAS LAST SEEN TAKING OFF FROM CAPE TOWN IN A RED TESLA CONVERTABLE. NO WORD SINCE, BUT I FEEL CONFIDENT WITNESSES WILL STEP FORWARD SOON.

I love Book Report. I want to thank you for developing this amazing tool, which makes the viewing of our data so much FUN. But at the end of the day, it is more fun than useful for me. I've been thinking all along that $10 was a bit high for a collection of data that already exists for me on my KDP dashboard--albeit presented much more effectively via your service. I think you're doing a wonderful job with the software, but I'm adding my voice to say that $19 is beyond my reach. I totally understand the real world needs of servers and overhead, and I wish you nothing but the best!

That show is the BEST. If youíre ever available to watch it live (Tuesday evenings, 8pm Central US), the YouTube livechat can be really fun.

I REALLY HOPE KDIEM SHOWS UP WITH SOMETHING RESPECTABLE UPON WHICH TO SNACK. TO SAVE US FROM THE SPAM.

OK YOU CRETINS! LISTEN UP! THE AGE OF THE WALMART IS UPON US, AND I FOR ONE WANT TO HEAR WHAT SOME BOOKS ARE THAT YOU GOODLY FOLK PLAN ON WRITING SPECIFICALLY TO PUT ON THE DIGITAL BOOKSHELF WHERE THEY'RE DROPPING PRICES!

JIM AND BRYAN SAY CHILDREN'S FICTION, NON-FICTION, AND ROMANCE ARE ALL HOT. I CAN'T QUITE PUT TOGETHER AN ACCEPTABLE GENRE MASH THERE, SO I'M GOING TO GO OUT ON A LIMB AND SAY THERE WILL BE A BREAKOUT EBOOK ABOUT SELF-PUBLISHING EBOOKS THAT WILL CATCH THE EYE OF THE EBOOK SAVVY WAL-MARTIAN.

HMM. MAYBE IT'LL BE CALLED THE WAL-MARTIAN. MIGHT HAVE TO CHECK WITH ANDY WE'RE ON THAT THO.

Can anyone post asny good examples of books who have combined sci-fi sand fantasy successfully? I read some and they usually suck. I think I read 1-2 books that executed it well.

Space Fantasy FTW. I'm in love with Chris Fox's new series, The Magitech Chronicles, and it isn't even because it's by Chris Fox :P I just really, really like it. The trope-mash includes spellguns, dragons in space, magically operated space marine tech suits, etc., with good character work, awesome world-building, and a nice action romp:

I'm hoping that fantasy isn't a dying genre. Lol, since that's what I'm writing an entire series in.

Fantasy will never die. It may wax and wane in the mainstream, but it will always have a devoted core following.

And all the millennials whoíve graduated from college and are working jobs now and can buy books, and who grew up on Harry Potter and P. Jacksonís LOTR film adaptations... I think even mainstream fantasy will be golden for a while. Decades, easy. Itís in our blood.

Iíd agree that LitRPG, Space Fantasy, and Reverse Harem all seem to be having moments. Of the three I predict R. Harem will prove most lucrative.

Mark Coker was on the SFFM Podcast a couple of weeks ago, and said that Romanceó>Fantasy is looking hot right now in Smashwords data.

EDIT: may have been Fantasyó>Romance. Will have to listen to be sure; he either said romantic fantasy or fantasy romance, and I canít quite recall off the cuff.

I donít know Shayne or the exact rules RE: keywords in a product description, but I just had a look and there was nothing that gave me pause. The cover and blurb both seem super legit, so assuming the book is also good, thatís what Iíd attribute his success to.

RE: keywords, are you suggesting there is a rule against using them in blurbs? I know there has been a crackdown on keyword-stuffed title fields in the past, but this is the first time Iíve heard any stink about blurbs. Seems like it would be awfully difficult to discern an authorís intention. I think a case could be made that the example here might not be intentionally ďstuffedĒ at all; they may just be very thorough.

But others more knowledgeable than I may have some things to say.

I like this very much. Sounds like a quirky character-driven action/adventure sci-fi to me, and thatís my favorite kind! Is that what you were shooting for?

Doesnít sound like an Łber hard military type mil sci-fi.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Blockchain - An Amazon Killer?
« on: January 17, 2018, 05:12:53 AM »
Since the indie folk I hear discussing blockchain the most are J Penn and Orna Ross, and since I tend to associate both with unbridled futurist optimism, the skeptic in me wants to say, ďeh, weíll seeĒ about the whole blockchain thing.

But the one idea Iíve heard that resonates as likely to me is that, in the event of blockchain technology becoming a primary currency factor, Amazon will probably acquire, rather than be toppled by, said technology. And I mean Amazon as a whole. How much of that might trickle down the the KDP system... who
can say, lol.

Holy Moley.

Works two ways: the angelís name could be Moley, or he could also be a mole shifter. In the second case, you should definitely pit him against a certain vampire hamster somewhere down the line.

Well after a few tries I still don't sound like Morgan Freeman, but here's what I came up with.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5G_4nkvLtg

Impressions? Think I talk too fast? Input is appreciated ;)

I like your voice! Agree that itís all too fast and may be a touch too monotone. As a listener Iím also a little bothered by the amount of background noise, but I donít know how much that would matter to the average YouTube viewer.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Anyone Doing Readings On YouTube?
« on: January 14, 2018, 02:31:05 PM »
Iíve been doing indie author readings on The Book Speaks Podcast since March 2017, and I put the show up on YouTube (as well as Wordpress and iTunes):

https://youtu.be/hYSsX66vb_o?list=PL9shZlLuGGAtml-mbAAjL1882sHC1SgIE

A couple of the vids have low triple digit views but most are quite a bit lower. YMMV. In my experience so far this has been a better author networking tool than a promotional tool for my own work, but Iím reading from other authors and most of my discussion is author-centric, so that makes sense. Meh.

Toasting everyone tonight with a glass of triple sec and orange juice. I know it isn't manly. I know it isn't really a drink. I don't care, because it's tasty and it makes me feel just tingly enough to enjoy it without slowing me down so much I can't knock out a couple hundred words while I watch Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Who's with me?

I do like the look of 2 and 3 more than 1--prolly has to do with them having some stardust behind the ships.

If you're MARRIED to "green," I might suggest something a little darker or warmer. The green in the series title as it stands seems out of place to me. But meh. Better than my covers!
