I'm with Gertie.

How about An Extra Galactic Christmas, or Christmas in the Cosmos, or Outer Planets Christmas, or Christmas in the Universe.

I dunno.

I like your first suggestion.

Or maybe Merry Galactic Christmas.

I'm a sucker for a good title, but this one doesn't grab me.

I like it a lot. Especially like the font you used for the title.

Bookmark your chapters. Then link to the bookmark and type in what you want to appear in the TOC.

You can do that right in Word.

They're all cute until they crap on your carpet :o (Trust me, I know!)

P.S.
Have you found a new place for you to sleep yet?

That's why I don't do puppies ... or carpet.

Congratulations Gertie! It's always such a joy when they bloom - I wish ours would do it more often  :)

What a beautiful painting, Ryn. So meticulous, complex and elegant. I also love those animal paintings in your portfolio.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, that orchid didn't get watered for two months. When I finally got a look at it, it had four buds. Now all four of them opened up.

Did you see Ryn's painting of the Emu? Hilarious.

Wow, congrats. That is so great. It sounds like Ando was lucky to have found you.

Thanks. I love Ryn's work.

I sent my friend Ryn Shell, artist and author, a photo of the first bloom on my Phal. She asked if she could paint it and this was the result.

It's gorgeous!!!

Writers' Cafe / Re: Some analysis of Amazon royalties
« on: April 20, 2018, 07:21:36 AM »
I came up with a similar figure a while back and concluded that the KU page reads equal the 35% royalty rate.

This is the conundrum of KU. More reads, but a halved royalty. If you're selling a 99-cent book, KU will pay you better than a sale, but that's a special case. What to do?

My answer is to have some kinds of books in KU and others not, to have some low-priced books and others high-priced. That works for me. YMMV.

I think your calculation is much more realistic.

I have always been in awe of your statistical skills and the fact that you share that knowledge so freely here. You have been a valuable and valued member here.

Best of luck to you and Jennifer.

Not Quite Kindle / Re: So You Think You Can Dance - Season 15
« on: April 17, 2018, 07:34:31 PM »
Makes sense. I'm sure auditions are costly (flying the cast/crew around, renting locations, etc.) so limiting it to the two major talent cities probably saves money without losing too much opportunity. Also, I know getting there could be a hardship for a lot of struggling artists, but at least LA and NYC should have some cheap flight options...

And they are accepting video auditions.

If all that saves Fox money so they can afford to keep the show going, I'm all for it.

The professionals seem to be in good spirits about this on Twitter.
I look forward to the show whatever the format.
Hope So You think You Can Dance returns too.

Yup, June 4th for SYTYCD. Auditions are completed.

Looks like it starts June 4th.

Interestingly, auditions will only be held in NYC and LA.

Here's the lineup. Only 10 athletes and there will be double eliminations for each of the four weeks.

Poor Lyndsey is stuck with Kareem Abdul Jabbar at 7'2". She needs to get some advice from Cheryl and how she handled her giant partner.  :D

Business Card magnets. You can buy the magnets at any office supply store and stick your business cards on them. I'm sure you can get them made somewhere, but since you're short on time, this is the fastest way to do it.

It seems to me that all you really need is a poem. You don't need it set to music. Check out Fiverr. They have lots of people who will write poems for you.

Anything Else Amazon / Re: New Delivery Information

Here we go again! Placed an order on 3/29, supposed to arrive 3/31. Delayed until 4/5 then delayed until 4/10 and now it's delayed until 4/16.

What the heck is going on? I'm about ready to pull the plug on Amazon. I'll call them tomorrow ... again.

Writers' Cafe / Re: Are your books ever described as "easy" reads?
« on: April 06, 2018, 11:50:12 AM »
Authors do love to overthink things, don't they? :P

Easy read, beach read, popcorn books: All the same thing. Just like the action movie reference above, the book is designed to be entertaining but require little effort on the part of the reader. It isn't an insult. It isn't a bad thing. It is an actual type of book that has been produced for decades and decades. There are publishers that specialize in these type of books.

What annoys me, though, whenever this topic comes up (and it comes up often) is that some folks use the opportunity to take a swipe at literary fiction. Beach reads aren't "better" than literary or more complex works. They are simply a different market. Making the argument that beach reads are better than literary works is sort of like arguing that Avengers is a better movie than Shindler's List. The two films have absolutely nothing in common and are serving completely different demographics. And I don't think I've ever heard Robert Downey Jr give an interview where he argued, "Yeah, just look at how much more money Avengers made over Argo. Obviously, Avengers was a better movie."

Not just a different market, but for me, a different mood. Some books make me pause and think, others, I slide right through. I definitely enjoy both kinds depending on how I'm feeling at the time.

« on: April 06, 2018, 11:37:23 AM »
I find it very interesting how we each reacted to the books.
For me, each one I could not wait for it to be released & would immediately buy the audiobook version, because I so love Davina Porter's reading.
The only one that really dragged for me & I find difficult to re-read is #4 Drums of Autumn. There's just so much trouble in that one book.
If they do the whole book in one season, it will be very interesting to see what they use & what they skip.

Davina Porter is fabulous. I would not have gotten into audiobooks at all if it hadn't been for her.
