Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Two kindles
« on: May 03, 2018, 07:48:37 AM »
When I was using my phone to read while out of the house I would order a book, then also tell it to deliver to the phone.

I have never timed it but it is very dependent on what light light level you set.  I set mine at 18 (I have cataract surgery scheduled so that may change) and font size at 3 with 3 boldness level.  I am reasonably confident I get 10 hours or more but again, have not measured it.  I have charger at my desk and normally charge it when it gets below 50% battery level.  I charges that in less than 45 minutes.

If you liked the shape and function of the Oasis the new 7 inch Oasis is a nice reader.  More on the page and still can be held easily one handed.  It no longer has a charging cover so the battery life is less but it charges very fast.  I love mine.

Yes, without a doubt.  While the first Oasis is more convenient to carry, I don't carry a purse, I love the bigger screen enough to carry it with me and have quit reading on my phone in doctor offices or wherever else I might have to wait.  I always carry it in the case but read out of the case so I use the case that came with it.  Most aftermarket cases are tight and you have to unsnap the reader from the case.

I installed this AM and read a couple hours with no flickering on Oasis 2.

I read some military history with a lot of photos and maps so I might be interested.  One thing to keep in mind is the complaints of battery life with current Oasis II so they might be aiming for a good improvement.  That will be worth some thought.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Can I Downlaod from RBDigital to my Kindle

RBDigital is the ereader my local library uses.  Can it be used with a Kindle?

I received the Oasis 2 on the day it was released and have used it daily.  During that time I was ill and read a lot.  My O2 had a very slight gradient, did not jump out and was not noticeable unless looking for it.  I did charge it at least every third day and sometimes daily when I read a lot.  I use bold at 3 and brightness at 18.  Loved the increased print per page and used it exclusively. The aluminum cover was cold but warmed up with use.  My hands are not large so it was a little harder to hold but not much.

Four days ago I began reading on my original Oasis more to compare than anything else.  It only took a few hours use to convince me to switch back.  It is much more comfortable to hold and the battery life is better.  I like the whiter light of the original Oasis and it holds in one hand better.  Now if I could just buy another battery cover with the fabric of the charcoal cover I got with my O2.

After perusing all the settings that's what I thought.  Thank you for answering.

Is there a way to turn of cellular and leave Wifi on?

TorontoSS, there are 6 pages of posts about member's first impressions of the new Oasis.  I think within those pages your questions are answered.

I understand what you are saying and I do not disagree with it.  However most of us are already packing a charger for our phone.  So the most you would need would be another cord if your phone is USB-C  instead of the USB-B needed for the Oasis.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle and iPad Kindle App not synching
« on: December 04, 2017, 09:49:16 AM »
Okay, next try.  I drive almost daily as a volunteer taking patients to treatment.  I never carry my Oasis (advantage to women with purses), I read on my phone while waiting for the patient to finish.  So before I leave the house I sync my phone to the furthest page read the previous night.  The advantage of this is that when it does not sync automatically I can then just note the furthest page read on my Oasis and use go to to get there on my Android phone.  I seldom have to do it that way but can when needed.

Agreed would be nice to have sync as designed every time but it sometimes does not.

Do you have Wifi turned off?  Many on here say they do to extend battery life.  Wifi is how the cloud (in this case Amazon) would know where to sync the phone to.

Another point I have discovered.  The phone tries to use Wifi to sync.  If the Wifi connection is poor it may not sync.  When that occurs I turn off Wifi on the phone and then the 3g or LTE signal will allow it to sync.  Worth a try.

I use mine horizontally against the bottom of the Oasis 3.

I got the boiler plate response saying I could return the covers I had order and then order them at the new price.  The reply had a link where you could request a call.  For some reason it would not take all the digits of a ten digit number.  There was also a link to send another email.  I told them what had happened and that it would be easier for them and me if they would just give me a $30 credit for the two covers.  I got an answer that said that was not policy but that they would make an exception since I was a long time customer who made many purchases.  On my orders page it usually shows 50 in the last six months, so ya, I guess I do make a lot of purchases.

Just ordered Bookseats for myself, my wife, and my daughter.  Between Kindles and tablets we will get a lot of use from them.

I meant to time my Kindle charging during Walking Dead tonight.  It started at 36% when WD started.  When I noticed it green it was 43 minutes into WD.  So I did not note exactly how long it took to go 74% but even if it was the whole 43 minutes I consider that very good.

@derek87, I cannot lay down and read for more than 20-30 minutes.  I lay on my right side and hold the Oasis2 with my right hand.  The corner sits in my palm with three fingers behind it, little finger on the bottom, and thumb between the buttons or lightly resting on the top button.  This allows me to easily turn the pages with a slight press.  If I take longer to start yawning I can switch to the other side.  I did add a decal to the back so it would not feel quite as slippery.

Unless I have my Oasis in a stand I read out of the case.  So a case has to be easy to remove.  The ones that have you snap the Kindle into a case are not for me.  I am surprised at the number of people who read in the case.  To me the Oasis series was designed to hold one handed out of the case.

I did get my Decal Gal skin, matte carbon, on it yesterday.  It does feel less cold and a slight amount of better grip.

I just ordered the carbon in matte.  Just looking for more grip than anything else.

It should be noted that the rubber on the edge of the cellular model is hard rubber.  To me it feels like the aluminum back and provides no extra grip.  I believe it is hard and smooth enough to take a decal.
