Fire Talk / Latest Kindle App Issue
« on: November 05, 2017, 04:40:32 AM »
Is anyone else having problems? The latest Kindle App will download, but then fail to install. I've tried about 6 times over the last several days.

If you like Douglas Preston. (Pendergast Series) This is available for 2.99 for a limited time. New addition with over 100 photographs.
His "Lost City of the Monkey God" is also excellent. These are true modern adventure  stories with lots of history.

Does anyone remember if any Kindles (E-readers or Fires) were on sale last year on primeday?

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Fire tablets) / Project Guttenberg
« on: March 01, 2015, 07:12:22 AM »
I've search but didn't find what I was looking for. Is there a thread or a FAQ here about downloading books from Project Guttenberg and then reading them on my Kindle? I have a Kindle Fire HD 7. I was able to download a book using Dropbox. I could then read the book by going into my Dropbox, however the book doesn't show up in my carousel or in my books on the Kindle, so I couldn't read it on a different device. Am I missing a step? Should this book work like any other I get from Amazon (save my progress, look up definitions, bookmark, etc.)? I tried searching the Project Guttenberg site as well, but could not find any answers.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Fresh Snyc
« on: February 07, 2014, 06:00:27 AM »
Does someone have a procedure for reestablishing a fresh sync in a book? Also what is the best procedure when one finishes a book? I have 6 Kindles on my account (3 Fires 3 other), plus the Kindle app on some phones.

I was reading the new Beatles book “Tune In” on my Fire HD and on my android phone. I was at around 200 (of 800) pages, and fell asleep while reading on my fire. For whatever reason (don’t care) the next morning the book was at 500 pages, which is now “the furthest page read”. Now I can’t go back and forth between the fire and phone while keeping my place. I’ve tried going to the cover of the book on both devices then deleting the book and downloading again. However both devices still show the furthest page read at that 500 page mark.

On a related note; Say someone on my account reads a book, and when they get to the end they just stop reading, and start a new book. Of course months later when someone else starts that book it will be synched to the furthest page of the first reader. I always tell them when they finish a book, to go to the cover, then delete it from their device. Will this allow the next reader to establish their own synch? I know if two people are reading the same book at the same time, with synch on both, it will go to the furthest page between devices.
Sorry for the long post. I hope I’ve explained my problem. Thanks for your help.

Fire Talk / Powering Off
« on: June 21, 2013, 07:13:23 AM »
Yeah!! My eighth Kindle (for me and my family ) is finally a 7" Fire HD (32GB) for me.
I had been using a DX for the last 3 years, and had given 2 Fire's as gifts.
I have been a Prime member for years so have lots of content to add if I want.
I have two questions. Can I power off from a menu instead of the side button?
I can't find and option to download a movie or TV show rather than stream it.

Fire Talk / one click settings
« on: December 30, 2012, 05:09:29 AM »
I bought my girlfriend a 7" HD fire for xmass. When she goes to shop on Amazon it shows my one-click settings. Can that be turned off per device?
Can she get into her Amazon account by default? I have 5 kindles on my account.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle or Kindle Touch?
« on: April 08, 2012, 08:35:26 AM »
I want to get another Kindle to go with my current DX, and maybe get the wife to use it.
Anyone have experience with both, and can you recommend one over the other?

The Book Corner / Thoughts on Middlesex
« on: December 31, 2010, 08:29:55 AM »
I bought the book about a year ago because it was on some "Best of the Decade" list. Never got to it though. Later I got it for my Kindle, to take to Iraq with me. I'm just finishing Folletts Pillars of the Earth which I really enjoyed. I'm not sure if I'm ready for another long "epic" sort of book. So I went to Amazon to check out peoples opinions on the book. Well, like most of the reviews on Amazon, they were all over the map. From best book ever to load of garbage. Then I checked out the reviews for Pillars of the Earth, because I knew how I felt about it. Same thing. Since I've found lots of great reads from this site, I decided to ask your opinions. Is Jeffrey Eugenides Middlesex worth the read?

As an aside. Also on that list was Dave Eggers A Heatbreaking Work of Staggering Genius which I could not finish.

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Uninstalling Hacks
« on: September 03, 2010, 01:07:36 PM »
I want to get my Kindle DXi back to its original configuration. One at a time I put the uninstall ss hack bin and jailbreak uninstall bin in the root of my kindle. With each restart it said update failed, which I belive is normal. However, I still don't have the same original screen savers. Do I have to do something else with the ss folder. Is there away to reset your Kindle? If so do you lose your collections?

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting (Kindle) / Is it possible....
« on: August 22, 2010, 06:33:39 AM »
to switch back and forth between screen savers (not the pictures) after installing the hack? I mean do I have to uninstall the hack to get my Kindle DXg to it's original configuration or can I just change a setting or move a file? Hope this makes sense.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Why Do Ebooks Cost So Much?
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:19:15 PM »
Asked in this months Wired magazine.

"people vastly overestimate how much a publisher saves"
"Turns out, the physical aspect of book production can account for as little as 15 percent of the cost of the title."
"For now, only an estimated 11 million readers choose ebooks"
