Writers' Cafe / Basic Editing, Formatting, and Beta Reading Services
« on: July 29, 2017, 03:22:41 PM »
Hi. I can provide basic proofreading, basic no-frills ebook and paperback formatting, and beta reading.

I have recently graduated with Honors with an Associate degree in Creative Writing. I currently have four local clients here in Austin, Texas that I have helped to self-publish. Now that I am out of school I am looking to expand my client base. My clients consist of English professors and a Creative Writing student.

Beta reading 0.002 dollars per word
Kindle and epub ebook formatting $60
Createspace PDF paperback formatting $100
Proofreading (basic typos, punctuation errors) 0.002 dollars per word

Microsoft Word and Scrivener files are accepted.

If interested please email

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Victoria Champion

Surprise in my email inbox, 4 of my dark fantasy books suddenly republished to B&N. Noticed that 2 of my erotica are not published now. Thought they were. Have they been taken down, I wonder? What is going on? Mysterious.

Writers' Cafe / My college assessment test score in writing
« on: November 01, 2014, 11:27:23 AM »
was the highest it could possibly be! And so was my essay score! The staff said they had never seen scores that high. I tried to act all nonchalant, like yeah, well ... that's what I do.   8)  But inside I felt vindicated. My self esteem soared. I was giddy. Even if my sales are low, I know I have got mad writing skills. Quantifiably.

My reading comprehension score was almost perfect, but I have to admit I was appalled that it was less than perfect. I need to work on paying more attention, or reading more slowly.

Surprisingly to me, I scored proficient in geometry, and partially proficient in algebra. I thought I would absolutely fail both. I guess maintaining my spreadsheets, coding websites, calculating my cover measurements, and learning to format for ebook and paperback has done some good. I guess we do use algebra and geometry in day to day life!

I'm starting college in the Spring to get a Creative Writing and English degree set. I'll focus on the CW requirements first, and then catch the English degree non-overlaps up.

Good luck!

Writers' Cafe / How Authors Write

Not sure if this has been posted here before, did a search, didn't see it.

I want to update some book covers. Will my Countdown be reset by my release date being reset? I have it scheduled for Dec 24. Countdown requires 30 days in Select at one price before being eligible for Countdown. I don't want to lose my scheduled promo period. I want to update my covers.

Writers' Cafe / Minimum word count for a print book?
« on: October 02, 2013, 02:39:53 PM »
I'm thinking 40k.

I formatted some of my books for print and the price I would have to charge on Createspace seems ridiculous for a short word count (less than 20k). So I am guessing that I should only offer larger works in print (collections and complete trilogies, etc...)?

Writers' Cafe / Kobo blew off paying me again.
« on: July 30, 2013, 02:21:10 PM »
They owed me payment in Feb, said they'd pay me in June, then said, oh too many other payments went out in June, you got bumped to July, and now said, oh sorry we neglected to pay you, we'll pay you in Aug. Oh btw Victoria, check if your bank account info is updated, which, I spent over a week in emails with them sorting that out in May. So, let me ask you, esteemed colleagues, is that any way for them to run a business? Sounds like shades of B&N. I'll be dropping WL direct and going through d2D, who I can always rely on to pay me on time and deal with the incompetence of distributors for me.

Writers' Cafe / Should I hold off new series release until September?
« on: July 20, 2013, 02:34:28 PM »
Good idea to avoid summer slump?

Also, I will have book 2 of the series done by then as well so I could release both at once.

Wait until I have book 3? (might be October)

Writers' Cafe / Mid-June Kobo Payment
« on: June 21, 2013, 07:59:39 PM »
In an email asking me to update my bank details (which I had done and confirmed with their tech support), Kobo referred to the June payment as 'mid June', however I haven't received it, and I assume the 15th was mid-June. Has anyone else received their June Kobo payment?

Writers' Cafe / I met a girl I first met on the internet!!

Victoria Champion and Deanna Roy meetup in Austin!

I realized that I was due a payment on Feb 21, for sales that were below the minimum threshold but it had been six months (as stated in the FAQ we would be paid regardless of amount, every six months). I contacted them, and they said they were preparing six months payments and thanks in advance for my patience. Seeing as how the six months payment is already two months late in my case, I am wondering if anyone has ever received their six months payment?

Along the windswept shore of the Black Sea, Sofiya resists the calling of The Way, an ancient path of witchery her grandmother wishes for her to walk. As she emerges into womanhood, she struggles against the growing influence of her magical inheritance in a desperate attempt to be with the young fisherman she loves. Her tragic and terrifying visions reveal that The Way has a darker path, and its hunger for her is approaching like a terrible storm.

Rick Hautala
David B. Silva
and James Herbert (There was a thread about him here:

I'm not superstitious. But seriously, what the hell...

I'm just excited about my new book cover and want to brag. Not looking to alter it. :D I designed it myself in Photoshop from a stock photo and free fonts. I checked the thumbnail size (in my sig now) and looks legible to me, but then again I wear bifocals.
