Thanks, Katie. Been there, done that though. I just get "auto-bot" responses from the "contact us" button.

*sigh*

 ;)

So they blocked all of your books because someone flagged a couple of them? That's scary.

Yes, scary.  I think a 'bot does the blocking, though. Maybe it would be scarier if it was a real, live person.

I think I've seen someone post about there being something you can click on asking them to contact you (not sure if you need to be logged in to an account to do that though.)  Otherwise, see if you can track down a helpline number and speak to a human to get around the robo-response.

Helpline number? Now that's funny.  ;) No such thing exists for KDP. I'll look for the contact button (there is one to contact them, of course... Hello robot!)

Thanks!

Yes, a bit extreme. I just want someone to explain what "reclaiming" means and if it has to be done before republishing elsewhere...  ???

Why was your account blocked? ???

I've been a high school teacher for 13 years... English...

I put together a few books offering writing advice, other grammary-school stuff. Evidently it was flagged as "PLR" garbage and I went down in flames. KDP is really cleaning house.

Contact and I have exchanged several emails--or at least I have. Most of the responses are of the "robo" variety.

Please don't throw digital stones...  ???

My account has been blocked. I feel like I'm part of some twisted twelve-step program...

Anyway, I found a publisher willing to take on my books (at least those I'm positive are in compliance with KDP's guidelines--not sure about the others), but KDP told that publisher I needed to "reclaim" my books by unpublishing them first.

Well... As my account is blocked, I can't reclaim anything. I've sent the appropriate email to KDP's "contact us" address, but they sent a robo-response saying my account was blocked back.

Does anyone have any suggestions / solutions? It feels as though my books are trapped in Kindle limbo with no way out (like where are my book "rights"?)

Thank you for not stoning me.  ;)

Writers' Cafe / Re: Impact of 1 stars?
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:52:40 AM »
Good point re: reading the 5 stars and 1 stars. A lot of 1 star reviews seem to focus on "content" rather than the actual writing/story. (e.g., I hate stories where the dog dies!)

Just don't read reviews. That's my advice.  ;)

Mostly...

I can't deny the 20X sales I get through Amazon (or the fact that someone will actually borrow a book that is 99 cents).

I touch on the icky-sticky topic of plagiarism and the "wild west" internet.

My work has been raked across the metaphoric coals for using the f-bomb too much, especially stories involving teenage protags.

Have people listened to how teenagers talk to one another? (I work in a high school.)

The f-bomb is like oxygen to some of these monkeys.  ;D

Man... I'm behind. Disappear from the 'net for a week or two, and WHAM!

Clicking and catching up, though. Thanks to anyone who has the time to tag (and hasn't hit my books yet).

Another case of the "wild west internet".

Content stolen online and repackaged... I'm sure this happens all the time. In fact, it's happened to me, twice.  (Stories which were published at online magazines were stolen and repackaged as part of a "collection" under a different name.)

Writers' Cafe / Re: Reviewers Beware!

I think it's a little funny...

I mean, some "reviewers" are aiming to be artists, so they should face critical fire, too. Right?

If I review anything, I put my name on it. That's my policy.

The chilling effect on free speech cuts both ways, folks. Welcome to the wild west internet.

Yee-haw!

Hey Mike -- glad to hear Seattle is doing well. Amazon is the best game in town right now.

I'm a high school teacher (11-12th grade), but I've seen younger students with them. I spotted several Kindle Touches and few others with the new generation standard Kindle. I think the lower price point really opened the market.

Amazon knows what it's doing.

All the new Kindle owners are very excited--"Mr. Polson look what I got."

Maybe it's just 'cause I'm the English teacher.

This isn't a scientific study at all... just an observation.

My students have returned from holiday break with large numbers of e-readers (seems the #1 e-gift this year), and the vast majority are Kindles.

Hear that, MG/YA writers? Kindles.

 ;)

I used to worry about returns--and it is a bit of a pain in the gut, but I wouldn't read too much into it.

We're all in this together.
