The Book Bazaar / The Peacekeepers, Book 23 Battle for Mars by Ricky Sides
« on: September 04, 2017, 08:19:32 AM »
Hi there Kindle readers,

I've just released the next installment in the Peacekeeper series. Book 23 is subtitled Battle for Mars. I'm proud of this book. I worked hard to incorporate some new elements into the Peacekeeper world that I feel enhance this book rather well. I'd like to express my gratitude to the Kindle community for making this series a success. I'm already at work on Book 24, Bad Moon Rising, and expect to release it before the end of the year.

Blurb

A small Peacekeeper Armada goes to Mars where their terraforming efforts have begun to make the red planet habitable. Not long after they arrive, they are informed that a large Russian fleet, along with the remnants of the Colombian drug cartel's pirate ships, is headed for a showdown with the American forces working to prepare a colony site for the first colonists.

Knowing they will be outnumbered almost three to one, and that it will take a miracle for their forces to defeat those arrayed against them, the Peacekeepers in the Mars planetary system call on their secret weapon to help them. That weapon is a sixteen-year-old child prodigy named Hunter Wilison. Can his artificial intelligence programs for the Peacekeeper drones and ships give them the edge they need to overcome an enemy that is determined to achieve victory at any cost?

Hi there Kindle Readers,

This is a reminder to the readers of the series that "Moon Base" has been released. I also released Book 22 "The Delphi" recently. Here is a link to it.

Synopsis

The Delphi, under the command of Captain Beth Mitchell, is sent to Mars on humanity's first terraforming expedition to another planet. Young Hunter Wilison, the son of the Peacekeeper Councilman Admiral Tim Wilison and the brilliant computer expert Patricia Huxley Wilison, stows away aboard the ship where he must escape detection until they are past the point of no return on their voyage to the red planet.

However, the crime cartel of Juan David isn't finished with the Peacekeepers. In his quest for revenge, the drug lord turned pirate, decides to attack the Delphi as she makes her way to Mars. A battle ensues when multiple pirate vessels close with the Delphi in deep space, and Hunter must risk discovery to assist the beleaguered Peacekeeper ship.

As the trip progresses, Beth begins to have her dreams again. Only this time, she isn't seeing events to come, but rather the events of the past. Over a period of several dreams, she discovers that the Delphi isn't the first Earth ship to attempt to colonize Mars. She's the second. Will her dreams help her avoid the fate of the lost Argos?

To make matters worse, Beth is forced to utilize continuous acceleration to the halfway point of her voyage in order to escape the pursuing pirate ships. As they begin their deceleration, her crew sickens and the illness grows worse by the day. As they approach Mars and the braking maneuvers intensify, so do the symptoms of the sickness. Alarmed by the scenes of collapsing crewmen he sees, after hacking into the Delphi's security cameras, Hunter attempts to warn the Captain, only to discover the command center crew is incapacitated. If he doesn't stop the ship, the Delphi will burn up in the thin atmosphere of Mars.

What follows is an action packed adventure that explores what it might be like to go on a terraforming mission to Mars aboard a Peacekeeper ship. It also explores the political ramifications of such a mission when the world believes the United States is attempting to seize control of an entire planet, and Russia makes the same claim on the very same day.

As always, thank you for your patronage.

Sincerely,
Ricky Sides

Hi there, Ann,

Thank you for the gracious welcome. I promise to abide by the rules. I don't do a lot of promotions, so I won't be making many posts to promote the book. I try to post about new releases a couple of times for the Kindle readers who follow the series and are looking for word on the latest book. Then I go back to work on my next project.

Have a great day,
Ricky

The Book Bazaar / The Peacekeepers Book 21 Moon Base by Ricky Sides
« on: March 22, 2017, 03:35:00 AM »
Hi there Kindle readers,

I have released book 21 of the Peacekeeper series. It is available for $2.99 at Amazon.com.

The crew of the Damroyal locates the incoming comet Wormwood. Once they establish computer projections of its orbital path, construction begins on the moon base and rail gun that they plan to use to divert the threat.

The Peacekeeper Council learns that their current plans to affect the orbit of the comet will succeed, but that alteration will have disastrous consequences in the next pass of the comet that will end in a direct hit on their home planet. To prevent that extinction level event, they devise a plan to deal with Wormwood once and for all, but it will take most of their fleet to make that attempt.

Enemies of the peacekeepers use their distraction during the pending emergency to act against them. They seize a British spacecraft, after murdering its crew, and reverse engineer it. They follow a plan years in the making as they construct a pirate fleet like no other. Yet, they know that if they want to succeed, then they must bide their time and not act precipitously. They keep a low profile as they continue to build up their fleet for a confrontation with the peacekeepers when they are at their most vulnerable.

The peacekeepers must somehow protect themselves from the pirates and still manage to save the world.

Mine has also disappeared. I'm assuming that means Amazon caught the discrepancy and is working to correct it.

Thank you all for the replies. It sounds as if I should just turn in the first page of the form to my tax preparer to avoid confusion. Since some of my books sell for the 35% royalty, it is most likely that the discrepancy is due to Amazon reporting the gross sales total before the royalty split on page 2.

Tank you, Ann. The form is 2 pages. Box 2 on page 1 does match my records. Box 2 on page 2 is almost double that figure. Page one has two sections. One for the Federal income tax reporting and one for the State.

I suppose I do need to contact Amazon about the matter, but have never had dealings with them in the past and am not quite certain how I should go about doing so.

Have a great day,
Ricky

Hi there folks,

This is just a heads up for you. I noticed that there seems to be a discrepancy in my electronic 1099 from Amazon. Page one seems to have the correct total, but page two lists one that is double the actual earnings amount. I guess I'll have to wait to see if they issue a corrected version. Also, it seems they merged all Amazon earnings into one 1099 instead of separate ones for each country, which is okay by me.  :)

I advise you to look those forms over carefully before turning them in to your tax preparer.

Sincerely,
Ricky

Hi there Kindle readers,

Thank you for the sales of my latest peacekeeper book.  :)

I've been working hard on edits to Brimstone, which is another nine volume fantasy series that I wrote years ago. The entire collection of Brimstone and the Companions of Althea can only be found at my website, where it is free for all to read. The books are listed at the bottom left of the index. The six new edits each have their own pages there. The remaining three books in the series are  all on one page and will be given their own individual pages as I complete the editing process. Unfortunately, you'd need to read them online or copy them to a word file. I have PRC files that I'll be happy to email anyone requesting them. Please write Brimstone PRC files in the subject box. My email addy is: rsides22219@charter.net

Thank you, Ann. A new book release never feels official to me until I've been read the rules on the Kindleboard.  :) I'll do my best to obey all the rules. I don't like cluttering up the forum with constant references to my books, so I seldom post, but do occasionally.

Sincerely,
Ricky

Hi there Kindle readers,

Since I just released book 20 in this series, I wanted to make it easy for you to find a link for book 19 in case you haven't seen the post about it.

For those who would like to know, I plan to begin work on book 21 immediately and hope to release it before the end of the year. Book 22 should release by the end of the first quarter of next year.

Thank you again for your patronage.

Sincerely,
Ricky

Hi there Kindle readers,

Peacekeeper 20 is now live at Amazon. Here's the blurb:

Five years have passed as the peacekeepers continued to develop their spacecraft and build the new Guardian. That megaship will be placed in orbit to become the largest and most advanced space station in the history of mankind. Itís being positioned there to protect the United States from foreign aggression.

The Chinese and the Russians are committed to the destruction of the Guardian and are building massive fleets to accomplish that goal.

Beth convinces Gabe that they need to steal an APC from the Guardian and make an unauthorized round trip to the moon. What follows is a harrowing ordeal that transitions from one emergency to another, leaving everyone wondering if the two young adults can survive their journey.

The top scientists in the fleet work to find a solution, but for Beth and Gabe, time is running out because they left Earth orbit without sufficient life support consumables to make the trip.

As always, I'd like to thank you for the support of my books over the years.

Sincerely,
Ricky

Hi there Kindle readers,

The reviews for my latest release have been positive. I'd like to thank those who took the time to write them.

In other news, I'm hard at work on the next book in this series. Book 20, The Guardian, is coming along quite well and I'm a bit ahead of the schedule I set for myself this year. I want to release four peacekeeper books, and have released two already. It's my hope to have the time left this year to begin another unrelated project, however, that's a tall order and I'm far from certain I can accomplish that goal.

As always, I'd like to thank you all for your support of the peacekeeper series as well as the rest of my books.

Sincerely,
Ricky

Hi there Kindle readers,

I recently released book 19 of the peacekeeper series and wanted to announce it for the readers.

When Russian Special Forces troops penetrate the security at Area 51, they pull off the biggest defeat of a peacekeeper ship in history. Fourteen men succeed where the Chinese base ship and the Russian navy failed. They manage to down the Guardian, trapping dozens of crewmen in the corridors of the ship. Time is running out for the trapped survivors.

The peacekeepers are reeling from the devastating blow that has slaughtered hundreds of their number. Captain Evan Wilison is charged with the task of using the Athens to lead a peacekeeper armada in a strike to retaliate against Moscow.

Captain Jack Wilcox is brought to Area 51 and he forms the Guardian Troopers. Their mission will be to fight in space or on land. They will defend the new Guardian as it is being built and transfer to it when it is ready to take its place in orbit above America. At the last minute, the sixty Guardian Troopers in training volunteer to accompany the Athens as they seek to set an example for the rest of the world to note. America has had enough. No one will ever again be permitted to attack the United States with impunity. The Guardian Troopers set their sights on the Russian Central Committee, and only death will prevent them from accomplishing their mission.

Sincerely,
Ricky

Hi there Kindle readers,

I'd like to announce the release of book 18 of the Peacekeeper series. Writing this book has been the most ambitious writing project I have ever undertaken. It was also a fun book to write once I got past most of the technical details.

The government makes the Peacekeepers an offer. Help us perfect our space drive system that's similar but more powerful than your own so we can replace our failing satellites, and we'll outfit your fleet with our upgrades. This would remedy the crippling altitude disadvantages the Peacekeepers must deal with when fighting conventional warplanes. The Peacekeeper scientists rise to the occasion. Soon, the Athens is being refitted and her crew trained for their first mission in orbit. However, the Russians are also racing to get into space for reasons of their own, and their plans don't bode well for America that is still struggling to recover from the plague.

Thank you all for continuing to purchase and review my books.

Sincerely,
Ricky

Writers' Cafe / Barnes and Noble question
« on: September 28, 2015, 02:28:13 PM »
Hi there,

I unpublished my books on Smashwords yesterday in order to give Amazon Select a try with my list. I've checked the retail outlets that Smashwords distributes to and Barnes and Noble is still selling my titles. I'm trying to find out approximately how long it takes B&N to stop selling books once the author unpublishes at Smashwords.

Thank you for any information you can share.

Sincerely,
Ricky

I haven't seen anyone complaining so much as reporting the various states of their business strategy and what is working. I for one appreciate the feedback. Isn't complaining about people complaining a bit of a paradox?

What I have read in this thread was useful in helping me reach the conclusion that what is happening to me is not unique. This has been a useful thread. I thank the original poster for creating it.

Oh, and I'd still like to know if anyone has info on how long it takes Barnes and Noble to take down your books once you unpublish at Smashwords.

Have a great day,
Ricky
