From a love-sick, meth addict desperate to retain custody of her children to a delusional high school volleyball coach with an unrelenting crack dependency...the characters in this novel are not just fiction, they are amalgamations of the people I met on my own hellish journey. Tragically flawed yet desperately hopeful, this cast of unlikely heroes will challenge your preconceived notions of what it means to be an addict. Some of you will laugh, some of you will cry, others may see themselves in the characters’ lives.

Either way, I think you'll enjoy the story, because if there's one thing an addict is NOT...it's boring.

The Book Bazaar / Re: WHAT IF YOU KILLED SOMEONE...ONLY DIDN'T KNOW IT?
« on: December 26, 2012, 07:44:28 AM »
After a weekend long crack binder, Dave Bell, a washed-up track star turned high school volleyball coach, awakes to find the front bumper of his Volkswagen smashed in with scratches of another vehicle’s paint all along the metal. Rather than stopping to reflect on the situation, he hightails it to his dealer’s house, where he scores enough crack to kill a small elephant.

A couple drinks and a few hits later, Dave is behind the wheel of a school bus packed with a bunch of hormone-raging teenagers. He doesn’t get very far before the state troopers pull him over and arrest him for driving under the influence.

But the courts go easy on him. Thanks to some fancy footwork by his lawyer wife, Cheryl, Dave gets off with 90 days mandatory treatment at a secluded drug rehab high in the Rocky Mountains. There, he meets a young alcoholic named Monty, grieving over the death of his girlfriend who was killed in a hit-and-run only a week earlier.

As Monty shares intimate details of the accident that killed his girlfriend, memories begin to unfold of a crash Dave caused while blinded by crack and alcohol. As the details gel with increasing probability, Dave can’t help but wonder if he was the driver responsible.

Based on the author's own personal experience with substance abuse and twelve-step programs, Some Are Sicker Than Others, transcends the clichés of the typical recovery story by exploring the insidiousness of addiction and the harrowing effect it has on not just the afflicted, but everyone it touches.

Writers' Cafe / Awesome Proofreader
« on: July 03, 2012, 06:42:59 AM »
Anyone looking for a proofreader? I have a great one for you. Her name is Jessica. She is fast, affordable, and very thorough. I used her for my 122,000 word novel, Some Are Sicker Than Others. She turned it around in about six days. I was amazed by all the little typos she caught. I had no idea there were so many. She caught things that my writing teacher and four of my writing buddies missed. She really is good and I recommend her for anyone about to publish. Get that second pair of eyes beforehand. It's totally worth it.

Here's her website: http://www.proofyourbook.com

THE LIVES OF THREE UTTERLY HOPELESS ADDICTS CONVERGE FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENTAL AND HORRIFIC DEATH.

Monty Miller, a self-destructive, codependent alcoholic, is wracked by an obsession to drink himself to death as punishment for a fatal car accident he didn't cause.

Dave Bell, a former all-American track star turned washed-up high school volleyball coach, routinely chauffeurs his bus full of teens on a belly full of liquor and head full of crack.

Angie Mallard, a recently divorced housewife with three estranged children, is willing to go to any lengths to restore the family she lost to crystal meth.

All three are court-mandated to a drug & alcohol rehab high in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. There, they learn the universal truth among alcoholics and addicts:

Though they may all be sick...SOME ARE SICKER THAN OTHERS.
