Anything Else Amazon / Re: Kindle Show Prime Day

Jane917, did you buy it?

Decided not to buy the Show. I just could not prioritize it high on the NEED list, not that I often pay attention to that.

Anything Else Amazon / Kindle Show Prime Day
« on: July 15, 2018, 08:26:05 AM »
Does anyone want to give me the pitch why I should purchase the Show during Prime Day specials? I have the original Echo, a Tap, and 2 Dots. Any idea what the price will be on the Show for Prime Day? I think it is $129 today.  Jane

I didn't replace my one cup makers when they died. Tassimo and Keurig, neither lasted long and I didn't really like the coffee. I have aeropress, dripper, pourovers, etc. You name it. Local coffee roaster around the corner.  Well to be fair the tassimo, the first one I had lasted 10 years. It was the next model by a different maker that died an early death. And the disks where expensive and not much selection. Its why I got a cheap Keurig back when and it died too. And that always tasted watery.

But I just bought a machine that makes coffee as good as my mostly failed pourovers and it makes one cup at a time. 10-12 ounces. That thing is a tank. THey usually make the big machines for shops and offices, but they came out with a baby model. Still same 5 year warranty, still made in the Netherlands. I used my kindle device points I always have saved up as I don't think I'll need a new kindle for some time.

It actually makes coffee like a pourover with small pulses and an initial bloom. This tastes as good or better than the coffee they make at my local roaster. Since its the same coffee I can compare. That roaster just opened a casual cafe inside the warehouse.
Thing is that most of those pod machines don't get the water hot enough, this one always gets it around 200 for brewing. Like their big machine.
I know this is a Keurig thread, but I just thought for those that want a one cup at a time machine that should last and make really great coffee.

I am still so fascinated by it I watch it brew.  ;D. I am sure it will wear off eventually. Hubby been doing the aeropress each day, while I did the clever dripper, aeropress or pour over. This is actually better and more consistent. He said he likes it better. And I don't have to do much other than grind my beans and put the water in.
Now I need to put my pile of coffee making gadgets up somewhere. So many parts. Something to be said to just have one device. No wonder those pod machines became so popular.

We have been using Technivorm for years, maybe 15 or 20. We are on our second one, but the first one is still working. It got passed down to the our trailer. It has the glass carafe. Our "newer" one has the stainless steel carafe. I did not know they make a single serve Technivorm. If I had a programmable pot to heat water, I would use my Aeropress more often. IMHO, it is the best cup of coffee. Technivorm comes in a close second. We are very picky about our coffee.

I have wanted to buy an electric tea kettle for my tea, but have not like the prices. Today I noticed that the Bonavita 1L Goosenek Variable-Temp Electric Kettle is offered by Massdrop for about $55. Does anyone have experience with this kettle?

Her crate training is good, potty training is good (knock on wood).
We are now in the puppy-shark phase where she is biting, biting, biting!!

Sounds like things are going along as expected. She is adorable!

I received my first Harney order. I am sipping Jasmine Pearls, one of the samples they sent. Very light and smooth. I look forward to trying the rest of my order, which includes Royal Wedding Tea, Victorian London Fog, Hot Cinnamon Spice, and Pomegranate Oolong. The company is very generous with the samples!

I rarely use my microwave to cook. It gets daily use in the morning to heat the milk in my coffee cup to froth before I pour in the coffee. Sometimes I use it to defrost and cook popcorn. My husband reheats leftovers, but I never do. If I want to reheat something I use the toaster oven. My Instant Pot gets much more use than the microwave. I think it is the one appliance in the kitchen that I could give up. I hope yours serves you well. Mine is a Whirlpool.

I am going to place my first order from Harney. Any suggestions? I already have posted the Royal Wedding  tea (I am a sucker!) and Victorian London Fog. What else do I need to taste? I like fruity, spicy, but also smooth.

80 degrees 3 days in a row in the Vancouver/Portland area! A new record for April! We are heading back to normal drizzly weather for the weekend.

Spring has come to the PNW! We expect temperatures in the 80s this week. Almost unheard of! This warm weather should put all the leaves on the trees and make the flowers grow! Can you tell I am excited?

I am really excited for you. When will you actually have to do the picking? I am looking forward to your reports of the FaceTime viewing. Post a video if you can.

Such good news. I knew the point would come that you would get another dog and give him the love and attention you gave to Noggin. My best friend's grandson is named Ando (they are Japanese), and the name fits the 6 year old. Your Ando will grow into his name, I am sure. Good luck, and keep posting pictures and progress!

Ordered her two air fryer recipe books from Amazon yesterday.  :)

She also has a great pressure cooker cookbook if you want to reorder that Instant Pot!

I have a Philips Air Fryer and use it fairly often, but use my Instant Pot way more often. For chicken wings the AF is perfect. We may sweet potato fries almost to perfection. Follow Blue Jean Chef Meredith Lawrence. She has great ideas.

Glad to hear the update. Will the breeder provide you with pictures as they puppies grow? When will a puppy be tagged as yours?

Possibly a record setting day in the SW Washington/Portland area with temps in the 70s! Not a cloud in sight. Yesterday from our back porch we saw robins, hummingbirds, eagles, hawks, and the ever-dreaded box elder bugs.

Do you have an iPhone?  You have to have an iPhone as the Watch operates via bluetooth from the iPhone.

Yes, I have an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook.

I think I "need" an Apple Watch. I was in the Apple store yesterday for another reason, and for the first time got a close up look. I always thought they were not for me for 2 reasons. 1. Cost  2. I have very tiny wrists and standard watch bands never fit without doing a lot of adjustment. Cost still stands in the way, but I tried on some watches and discovered that I can get the bands to fit. My DIL has one and she loves it. I don't think I need to get the watch with cell overage, and I don't plan to swim with my watch on, so I don't think I need the 3. If I buy the 1, can I still get text messages? I would love to hear opinions on the Apple Watch.

I just need to figure out what fits in my Brown Betty.

The teapot I use daily now is stoneware, similar style to a Brown Betty, but has a painted design and was purchased locally.  I put my tea leaves in a top hat infuser and it fits right in/on the pot when I remove the lid.  I heat water in a digital electric kettle, pour it over the leaves, cover the pot with a cozy, and set a timer.  When the timer goes off, I remove the infuser basket, place the lid back on and have 6C of tea ready to drink.

I am never sure which tea infuser will fit correctly. Can you point me to the one you use? Thanks.

I also have a Brown Betty. The only thing I do not like is that it has no infuser. I have to put my loose tea in an infuser or use tea bags, or just tolerate the tea leaves that pour in my cup. Other of my teapots similar to Brown Betty catch most of the tea leaves in the spout.

I also have some glass pots. One is made like a French Press, so I can remove the tea leaves. However, it only makes 2 cups.

Since Amazon bought Whole Foods I have noticed a big drop in their prices. My closest WF is not really close, about 30 minutes away, but I have enjoyed going there lately. Now I will carry my Amazon Prime card with me, which always sits in a drawer used just for Amazon purchases. I rarely pay CASH for anything! My Capitol One Venture card rewards points have paid for many airline trips in the last few years.
