Anything Else Amazon / Re: Alexa Commands

I get the response "I don't see the playlist Classic Christmas Music."

Duh! It works if I request Christmas Classic instead of Classic Christmas. It helps to remember what you name your playlists.

Say "Alexa, play playlist Classic Christmas Music", or whatever the exact name of the playlist is.  It's not on Amazon Prime.  It's in your playlist.

I get the response "I don't see the playlist Classic Christmas Music."

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to request Alexa to play music from my playlists. I have tried requesting "Alexa, play Classic Christmas Music from Amazon Prime." I have a playlist titled Classic Christmas that I have added music to. I swear I could get her to play it last year. Now she directs me to a radio station.

Good morning! NapCat, you still have time to run up and see the Christmas Ships. They run every night up and down the Columbia (just in the Portland area) and the Willamette Rivers. Private boats all decorated up.

It is 36 and clear here again, but the drizzles are supposed to be back tomorrow. It has been a long dry stretch.

Have a good day!

I am a little worried. My first Oasis 2 is due to arrive in 10 days. Prior to ordering it, I collected all my old Kindles and sent them to the trade-in program. The only device I held back is my Fire. In the meantime I am reading my books on the app on the iPad. Boy am I going to feel silly if I donít like the Oasis 2 screen and have to send it back! I may find myself re-buying the Vouage, which served me quite well. Seat tuned.

Sorry, meant to answer this.  I haven't tried it.  I'm tempted to try the cold start sometime.  Have you done it yet, I know it's been a month.

I have not tried any kind of yogurt yet. However, I have discovered that Fairlife milk is available lots of places.

I would like to hear from people who have signed up for Kindle Unlimited to hear your thoughts? Do you find that you pick up a lot of books you really don't have interest in? Are there enough books you really want to read that make the cost worth it?

Good morning from the PNW. Snowing in Texas? Wow! We are chilly and frosty, but our days are warming nearly to the 60s. We sat out in sweaters last night and watched the Christmas ships stroll the Columbia River. We have no rain forecast all week. Happy weekend all!

My Oasis2 is on order, but not expected to arrive for a couple of weeks. I also ordered a MOKO case. I have a MOKO case for my Fire and it has lasted. The MOKO case has already arrived, but of course, I can't test it until the Oasis2 arrives. Any comments on the MOKO case?

The x should mean you didn't really get a wifi connection, so I'm not sure how it can be updating.  But, if it is doing an update of some sort, wait for that to finish before you try any of the suggestions below.

First, make sure that the wifi is "on" in addition to being connected to your network.  Try toggling it off and back on.

If nothing happens, I would try rebooting.  Then, if that didn't work, "forget" the wifi network and try again.

Well golly be! Everything on the Fire seems to be up and working. I have not used it for several years, so I don't even remember some of the techniques. I am glad I kept it. It has a nice MOKO cover. Thanks for not giving up on me.

I had forgotten all about Prime Reading and the Lending Library. Thanks for the reminder.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle and iPad Kindle App not synching
« on: December 06, 2017, 08:40:03 AM »
Not having issues, unless I read offline with one and take up another to continue. Iím almost always online however, I never turn WiFi off and try to remember to exit to Home before putting it down (I think at least iOS app does not upload reading position unless you Ďcloseí and return Home; I do the same on Voyage). My Voyage can take a number of seconds to sync even though I donít turn WiFi off so I may have to wait 20 seconds or so. wifi is always on with both my Voyage and my iPad. Recently they have not been out of my house, so reading offline could not be the explanation that they are not syncing. I have never closed by returning HOME. Does this make a difference? I just close the cover. On my iPad I just go to another app. I wonder if I am missing something here.

I have just gotten rid of my old stack of Kindles and am waiting for my Oasis 2 to arrive. In the meantime, I dragged out my 6" Fire to bring it up to date. The Fire has never been used in my current house. I connected to wifi easy enough, and in Settings it verifies that wifi is connected. However, the little wifi symbol at the top has an X. It won't download any of my current books in the Cloud. I think I am updating right now, which may solve the issue. Any ideas?

Good morning! It is 36 this morning with a high expected in the high 40s. The forecast is for a cold, clear week. That probably means a wind will come up. So far we have not had frost, but that should appear soon. Last year at this time we had snow, wind, ice....and it was off to a very long winter. This winter is starting out mild.

All this battery talk reminds me to ask the best process for getting my books on my new Oasis2when it arrives in a few weeks. It,has been a couple of years since a new Kindle arrived at my house. Donít they just magically show up?

I stand as another Apple user who much prefers to read on my Kindle. I go back and forth between reading on my Kindle and my iPad mini. For me, the Kindle is much preferred for reading. Right now I have to read on the iPad because I have sent my Kindles back to Amazon Trade-In and have ordered the new Oasis2. Most recently I have been reading with the Voyage. I have never had any problem getting my books to download from my library on my Mac to any devise I stipulate. I hope you find the right reader and routine for you.

So, between 11:45 and 3:15, your inner reader talked you into it without our help?  Sounds like me.

My Oasis 1 was a huge improvement over the Voyage and the Paperwhite to me.  So, I hope you love it.  (And, nope.  There wasn't an Oasis sale for the holidays.)

You are absolutely right about my decisions! I hope I have your positive experience. Can you explain to me what inverted text is?

So....I just ordered the new Oasis with a MOKO cover using instant payment from some trade-ins of older Kindles. They are out of stock until 12/19. In the meantime, I am Kindleless and will do my reading on my iPad. This will be be the 6th or 7th Kindle I have purchased.

I have had every Kindle, I think, except K1. I know have had the Voyage for several years. It was a substantial upgrade from the Paperwhite. Now I am considering the Oasis2. Did I miss something over Black Friday? Do they ever have a price reduction? I do not see any need for cell connection. I don't think I have ever downloaded books when I am away from home. If I did, they just wouldn't get to my device as quickly (until I get back to my wifi). I would like to have more text per page and turn the pages less frequently. I often read on my iPad when it is nearby, but it is too bright to be comfortable very long. I never read on my iPhone, though I could in a pinch. I need to read through this thread more carefully to note the comments. Now it is your job to talk me it/talk me out of the Oasis. Ready Set Go!

ETA: I actually have 3 Kindles that I could sell. What is the link to that site that buys them?

ETA #2. I packed up my 3 Kindles to return and will await to see what kind of credit they will give me. In the past I have gotten full trade-in value.

ETA #3: I ordered the Oasis plus the MOKO case with instant payment for my trade-ins. Could backfire if I get less than max trade in value, but I would have bought the Oasis anyway. They are apparently out of stock until 12/19.

Do you have Wifi turned off?  Many on here say they do to extend battery life.  Wifi is how the cloud (in this case Amazon) would know where to sync the phone to.

Another point I have discovered.  The phone tries to use Wifi to sync.  If the Wifi connection is poor it may not sync.  When that occurs I turn off Wifi on the phone and then the 3g or LTE signal will allow it to sync.  Worth a try.

Wifi is turned on and I have a good connection. I have noticed that I sync most consistently with my iPad, but my Kindle never seems to sync, even when I try a manual sync. I think the goblins have moved in!

Let's Talk Kindle! / Kindle and iPad Kindle App not synching

I have long gone back and forth reading on my Kindle (voyage) and my iPad. I have never had trouble synching automatically between the two. Lately the sync has not been happening. Is there anything I can do?

My 3 quart IP arrived yesterday. I have de died to keep it. I have a ham in the 6 quart and will do potatoes in the 3 quart. The 3 quart will be a great add-on, but the 6 quart will be the work horse.
