I have read that iPads with the retina display tend to get warm.

Yep, the ones I checked all seemed to be either Penguin or Random House (or an imprint of one of the two). They must be down while the pricing control gets transferred back to Amazon! I'm now eagerly awaiting a bunch of price reduction notifications from

I got a few notices today from ereaderiq.

I care about aesthetics, too, which is why I love my iPad mini.

I actually love reading on my mini.  But I'm waiting to see if there's going to be a new paperwhite.  The mini is no good to me if I want to read outdoors.

No comments on last night's show?  I loved when Marie slapped Skylar.  I'm going to be so sad to see these characters go.  And I've only been watching since about January.

I'm a huge fan of the show, too.  I didn't start watching it until after Christmas when I got Netflix.  I got caught up before Season 6 so that I could watch them as they air.  Can't wait until tonight!  I recently saw "Breaking Bad" described as a dark comedy, and I had never really thought of that before, but I can see that.  I think it's the greatest show I've ever seen.  I plan to start watching some of the other highly rated shows that I've missed.  I'm so glad I didn't miss out on Breaking Bad.   :)

The Book Corner / Re: Scariest Stephen King Novel of all time?

I have to agree with "Pet Semetary".  I had small children at the time and I was reading it during a winter storm.  My then husband had to go into work, and the power went out.  I was reading it with a flashlight and scared to death.  I'll never forget it.

The Book Corner / Re: Split time/historical novels? Recommendations?

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I recommend  Replay  by Ken Grimwood.  Excellent.  I also love "The Mirror" by Marlys Millhiser, although it might be more of a woman's book and it's not available for Kindle.

"This Perfect Day" by Ira Levin for $3.99

"Swan Song" by Robert McCammon for $3.03

In my family (we're six) four of us are readers and two are not. When I asked the two who don't read that often if when they read they see it as a movie in their head, they said no. The four of us do.

lnteresting...I can't imagine NOT seeing a book visually as I read.  No wonder some people don't like to read.

"The Shell Seekers" by Rosamunde Pilcher for $2.99  NO LONGER ON SALE

The Book Corner / Re: anyone watching Under the Dome?

I'm watching.  I didn't get around to reading the book yet, so I don't know what to expect.  Did anyone happen to catch Stephen King on the CBS Morning Show this morning?

The Book Corner / Re: What is your "Favorite Book" of all time?
« on: June 26, 2013, 01:00:07 PM »
One of my many all times favorites is    Replay.  I will read (or listen to the wonderful audiobook) this book once a year for the rest of my life.

"Replay" by Ken Grimwood is one of my favorite books, too.  I bought it for the Kindle a while ago.  Maybe it's time to read it again.   :)

I actually tend to like these kinds of books.  One of my favorite books is "The Mirror" by Marlys Millhiser.  It's not available for Kindle yet, but I'm still hoping.  I'm looking forward to getting suggestions from this thread.   :D

Fire Talk / Re: From original Kindle Fire to Kindle Fire HD 8.9"

Yes, leaving wifi on does make a difference.  I didn't leave it on with my original Fire, but I do leave it on with this one and I notice a big difference.

The Book Corner / Re: What book did you buy this week?

I haven't read World War Z either and likely never will.  But I bought "1984" for $2.99.  I always wanted to read it and never got around to it.

I just got my Fire 8.9 about a week ago and I've thought the battery drain is excessive, especially in comparison to my iPad mini.  I don't know what it was like before the update.  I just know that I have to plan to charge it every night.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Has anyone used One Dollar Scans?

I have used Calibre and I have two adult children who could possibly help me if I can't figure it out.  And I can always come here for help.  ;D
Did anyone use the high quality options?  Any opinion on them?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Has anyone used One Dollar Scans?
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:33:30 PM »
i don't know why, but every time i read the subject line, i see it as One Dollar Scams.....

Funny...I kept doing the same thing.  I finally read the thread today and I find it all very interesting.  I have two out-of-print books that I would love to have on my iPad mini, but I'm a little nervous about losing the hard copies if things don't turn out well.  I'm not that tech savy.  But I think I'm going to go for it.

The first link they gave me doesn't work.  And, of course, I don't want a refund.  But it still says on the product page that x-ray is enabled.

Fire Talk / X-ray enabled

According to the Amazon site, "Under the Dome" is x-ray enabled.  But when I try to bring it up on my Fire it says "X-ray concepts are not yet available for this book."  I looked to see if there was an update available for the book, but there's nothing.  Is it because I bought the ebook when it first came out?  How do I get the X-ray now?
