Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle Voyage First Impressions
« on: November 25, 2014, 04:12:30 PM »
The KV has arrived and I couldn't be happier with this Kindle. Personally I think they nailed it. I like everything about it. The screen is a pleasure to read. The lighting overall is very even and the auto adjust brightness works well in most circumstances for me. The page turn "buttons" work really well, again, for me. Yes if I am handling the Kindle and not paying attention like in closing cover operations I can experience some unintended page turns but overall I like them and use them exclusively. No more page swipes for me. And speaking of the cover, I have the origami red leather cover and really like it. I do use it as a stand in the morning reading while drinking my coffee at the breakfast table. I use to have leather book type cover for the PWII that many seem to miss. I don't, I like this cover. So for me this is the one, I like everything about it. Very happy I got it. Your mileage may vary. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

LOL www.goodreads.com
Owned by Amazon, it's a site where you can track the books you read and discover new ones.  There's a social aspect that you can use or ignore.  I use it to track the books I've read, and to review books I get from Netgalley.  I haven't connected it to my Kindle account though, because there are two of us on my account that are also on Goodreads. Don't want to muddy the reading waters.   ;)
Thank You!

Well my Kindle Voyage wi-fi scheduled for delivery Nov. 12 is coming tomorrow! Woo-hoo!

Update!

Okay when I read the subject I thought, how many husbands does this woman have? Then of course I realized it was husband's. LOL

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: First Impressions -- Kindle PW
« on: October 24, 2012, 06:48:39 PM »
Okay, after my initial disappointment I now think this is the best Kindle ever. They really nailed it. My original issue was the screen really isn't any lighter than my touch unless the light is on. But it really is sharper and I've learned where to use the light to just make the page appear lighter. In side by side comparisons to my Touch I didn't see any big difference in the text sharpness but after reading the PW for a week and picking up the Touch it was like wow! Odd but true. Bottom line I love it!

I'm disappointed. In fact I feel I was mislead but perhaps I simply misunderstood. I was was under the impression that this was a new generation e-ink screen with an almost paper white background. It is not. The background is no lighter than my touch. The whiteness comes from the lighting. It is a nice light, giving fairly even lighting to the screen but this is not what I was expecting. I'll give it a few more days but I think it's going back. I prefer my Touch so far. it's a shame.

Kindle Accessories / Re: Amazon K4 Lighted Cover

I love the lighted cover. It does seem to pick up scratches easily. Doesn't bother me. Gives the cover character. Like my silver hair.

I have a Kindle Touch in the lighted cover and I also remove it when I don't need the light or the added weight. It does start to get easier to take out the more you do it. Probably due more to learning the technique and loosing the fear that you're going to break something than the plastic loosing its tensile strength. I do not think that repeated removals and replacements will jeopardize the integrity of the cover's holding power.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Should i get the Kindle DX?
« on: June 03, 2012, 06:24:16 AM »
In my humble opinion no ereader compares to the DXG. In spite of the lack of updates it is, by far, the ultimate device to read on.
I plan on keeping mine as long as it will work and even after that may use it as a door stop or something. I really hate to see it be discontinued.

Ditto
The GDX rocks. I reach for mine when I feel like reading a hard cover vs a paperback.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Kindle Touch/non Touch - Landscape mode.
« on: June 03, 2012, 06:16:47 AM »
I seem to prefer to use the Kindle Touch in Landscape mode - only because that would allow me to have the most words across......like a proper book - though it's mostly read a paragraph at a time. That's pretty ok as i think one needs to read slower to absorb the material.

Reading it portrait mode is nicer makes the Kindle nicer to  hold but the number of words per line decreases. Which is your preferences? While commuting i see most people read their ereader portrait style. Maybe they use a smaller font and it also feels more like a book.

Sounds like you'd enjoy a DX.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: How much do you love your Kindle?
« on: June 02, 2012, 05:37:00 PM »
In the event of a divorce, I would put up a fight in a custody battle for my Kindle.

Actually this is a serious topic. I am currently going through a divorce and have hundreds of books in a shared account with my soon to be ex and Amazon has no way to allow you to extricate your books from the shared account even with the permission and blessings of the primary account holder. Not good.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Special Offers list
« on: June 02, 2012, 05:09:32 PM »
I gave up the special offers recently. I had accumulated enough points on my Amazon card to pay the $40 ransom. I like not having them. Especially  on the home page.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Why do you have more than one Kindle?
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:03:11 PM »
Because they keep improving them and I keep buying the new models. I have my original K2 (somewhere). I bought the DX when it first came  out but replaced it when I saw the pearl screen on the GDX. When the K3 came out with the same said pearl screen I had to have it since I loved the screen on the GDX so much. Then I saw the touch which was to my mind the ultimate in 6" Kindles. So I bought that and gave my K3 with it's Oberon cover to my sister to replace her K2. (such a good brother.) Soooo......doing the math I have a K2, KT, and GDX. And that's why I have what I have. My K2 is my first. But I love both my GDX and KT. Whew! I need a drink.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Do You Pre-Order?
« on: February 10, 2012, 04:47:52 PM »
I find it monstrously annoying that if I pre-order a book for my kindle it shows up any old time they feel like sending it that day.

Look... if I am your fangirl you are a lucky writer. Not only do I adore and worship you, I force others to do so. I sell you. I celebrate you. I hang on your every key-stroke.

If your book comes out on February 21st I NEED IT TO MAGICALLY APPEAR ON MY KINDLE AT 12:01 AM AND ABSOLUTELY NO SECONDS ON FEBRUARY 21st.

So I never pre-order anymore.  I haunt until the stupid thing goes live.

How about you?
Yes I preorder. There may be medication  to help you. ::)

Well I've had Kindles for years now but I did get a KT around Thanksgiving and have read 4 books since.

As a purely academic aside, at some point Content companies such as Amazon, Google or Apple will need to come up with standards to allow for inheritance, sale of content, etc. as they actively move more and more content into their clouds.  If they don't come up with some sort of industry standard, eventually the courts and Congress will take it up .... Its just a matter of time.  We're at the beginning of a completely new type of commerce and we have to let the law catch up with technology.

You're absolutely right on the money Geoffrey. Sadly my wife and I are divorcing. We have hundreds of eBooks we previously shared on her Amazon account. Even though there are books which are undisputedly mine and which my wife would have no objection to letting me take to my own account, Amazon has no way to make that happen. Very disturbing.

Kindle Accessories / Re: Shortage on the Lighted Cover for Touch?
« on: December 14, 2011, 04:35:14 PM »
I can confirm the lead times are shortening. I ordered a lighted case in wine and was originally told I would get it between Dec. 28th to Jan 5th. Yesterday they said they now estimated delivery on Dec. 18th and today I got the 'your order has been shipped' notice.

I had the K3 now called the Keyboard but gave it to my sister when I got the touch.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Re: Can't decide between WiFi only or get the 3G
« on: December 07, 2011, 04:23:38 PM »
I switched to the wi-fi only on the K3 and now have the wi-fi only on the touch.
I have never had an occasion to regret not having the 3G and the wifi is actually better and getting your own PDF documents to your Kindle than on a 3G model. I'd save the money. i also went with the special offers model. I mean really, a Kindle Touch for $99 versus a 3G non special offers for $189? It's a great deal my friend. My 2 cents (since you asked.) ;D
