Weeks of reading "coming soon" is getting really tiresome. I need Octovo to give me more info, a lead time, some hope and reason why I shouldn't just give up and buy an Oberon. Sorry but if your going to take a month or more to offer products maybe "coming soon" is the wrong message. I'm getting annoyed.

Kindle Accessories / New Cole Haan for K3 a disappointment
« on: August 28, 2010, 08:09:15 AM »
I had been lusting after the Cole Haan cover for the Kindle2 for a long time and when they went on sale this spring I bought one and I love it. When I pre-ordered my Kindle 3 I anxiously awaited the Cole Haan release for the new K3. Well it arrived today and I'm disappointed with it. My K2 case has an extra piece of leather sewn on the spine of the cover. The new one doesn't. At first it seems like a minor styling detail difference though I personally think the cover looks much sharper, classic, with the added leather. It also stiffens the spine which helps center the cover over the front of the Kindle. Without it it is much more floppy. It doesn't feel as good in the hand either when holding closed package. The added leather on the spine of the K2 cover did not affect the ability of the cover to fold back for one handed reading so I don't know why this was eliminated other than to save cost or to rush these to market. In fairness the photos on Amazon clearly shows this spine is missing I just did not notice it until I had if in my hand. Not sure I'll keep it.

Update: It's going back. Ordering the Amazon lighted cover.

Let's Talk Kindle! / The Joys of Wi-Fi on the new K3
« on: August 27, 2010, 04:09:17 AM »
While not touted as one of the big new features of the new Kindle, the delivery of personal documents via over WiFi makes me giggle with delight. Let me explain why.
My wife and I share a single Kindle account on her Amazon account. What this meant for me was that in the past when I sent a document for conversion via the free option, a link would be sent back from Amazon to HER email. She would then forward the link to me or if I was home I'd go fishing through her email to retrieve the link. I would then have to log onto HER Amazon account with HER password to be able to use the link. Finally I could then retrieve the file, hook up the USB and transfer the document to my Kindle.

Now I simply send the document to, turn on my Kindle's wireless which automatically connects to our WiFi here at home and abracadabra the document magically appears on my Kindle. How great is that?

This new K3 is just a wonderful device. Even the feel of the buttons and switches exude quality. My K2 now seems like a pre-production prototype in comparison.
Kudos to Amazon.

Is this the longest month of August in history or what?

Let's Talk Kindle! / Georgia 2 Font on my GDX - Like it!
« on: July 22, 2010, 05:51:18 PM »
I resorted to font hacks on both my K2 and original DX to increase the (what I felt should be better) screen contrast. And indeed the font hack really did make a huge difference for me on those devices. Now when I acquired the Graphite DX (GDX) with the new Pearl screen I was pleased that I now no longer needed a font hack for improved contrast. However I soon realized I missed my Georgia 2 for purely aesthetic reasons. I prefer the font! I was concerned that adding the hack to the new GDX would create a contrast almost too drastic, like having everything in bold font. Well I finally tried it and it's beautiful. The font does not seem to change the already high contrast on the pearl screen but it does return my beloved preferred Georgia 2 to further enhance my reading experience. Very pleased.

Let's Talk Kindle! / Can I merge/sync highlights between devices?
« on: August 26, 2009, 05:08:44 PM »
I have a K2 and a KDX. I am currently reading a book where I'm highlighting and annotating a lot of passages. What I discovered today while out on the road reading on my K2 is that all my previous annotations made on the KDX do not show on the K2 and the ones made on the K2 do not show on the KDX. Is there a way I can merge/sync these so my notes are made to the book not to the particular device? ???
It's kind of a bummer if I have to stick to one device if I want my notes all together.
