Copy Editing, Proofreading and Book Formatting Bundled Service: $0.0075 a word (Editing)

Hey everyone! For the last two years, I've had the privilege of helping aspiring military veteran authors bring their work to market. It's been a humbling, yet fantastic experience that has taught me more about copyediting than I could ever imagine. This month I've decided to hang out the shingle and offer my proofreading, copyediting and book formatting services to all writers.

A little about me first: I served from 2002-2007 in the US Army and knocked out two tours in Iraq. After the military, I earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and got lost working in Germany. I first cut my editing teeth performing English to German technical translations... a grueling and extensive process that makes copy-editing seem like a relaxing hobby! In the fiction world, I've worked on everything from steamy romances to hard sci-fi, and enjoyed them all.

While I offer a variety of editing options, the most popular service is a bundled package that includes two separate proofs and layout formatting for one bundled price of $0.005 a word.

What exactly does this entail?
1) The first line-by-line, "deep dive" copyediting and proofreading pass will be delivered by the agreed upon date or your money back.
Proofreading:
- Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization errors.
- Correct word usage, with a special emphasis on misused hyphenated/compound words, author-specific crutch words/phrases and those devilish homonyms.

Copy Editing:
- Massage sentence-level syntax for clarity, consistency and readability, without twisting your unique writing style.
- Polish overall tone and flow. This phase overlaps with "developmental editing," but there's no extra charge. I take pride in weeding out continuity errors, plot holes, unrealistic dialogue, inconsistent character actions and the subtle, yet confusing point-of-view shifts.

2) A separate final proofread right before you're ready to launch your work. With such an extensive editing proces

My name is Dan Jackson. I am the father of two boys (aged 7 and 10 years) and of a baby girl.
I am from Ontario, Canada originally.

I have been writing from an early age, even when I was a Student at school I was always writing, I was writing part-time until I became a full time author.

For the last two years I have written many books: Children books, How to books, thrillers and more.
For my first book I got the inspiration for writing from my sons weird questions: "Say dad, what will happened if a dog wants to be a cat" or "what if a horse want to be a seahorse?". The result was books based upon such themes.

During the last two years I was travelling. I traveled to a great world that I think most of you, the authors, have explored. I must say…it is a crazy world out there.

In my journey I discovered great and talented people. Together with them we created "In the land of the Amazun", a place to get great and successful book promotion services.

Waiting for your visit.

The prices are fair as my goal is to be affordable, cool & service oriented.

I've uploaded several samples of premades & some custom designed covers (sold already). Alwayes looking for great writers to work with and making your thoughts alive.

I'm a published jewelry designer and instructor who has authored over 50 design tutorials, newsletter articles, and online courses. I'm extremely detail-oriented and can easily spot grammatical errors. Misused and misspelled words are my specialty. My goal is to help you present your very best work!

I love Indie authors and self-publishers! I'm happy with nearly any genre. Some of my authors have appeared on the USA Today, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal Bestseller lists.

I'm incredibly motivated! Let me help you! I love my authors!

My goal as a copy editor is to spot mistakes and correct light readability and flow issues. It is not my goal to perform content editing duties such as editing plot lines, restructuring paragraphs, configuring layouts or editing story content. I will:

- correct spelling errors
- correct word usage errors
- correct syntax errors
- correct grammar errors
- correct punctuation errors
- correct capitalization errors
- Perform light editing for sentence structure and readability

MS Word documents are preferred. I utilize the Track Changes function for my edits. I will provide an edited copy (titled Suggested Edits) with all changes shown, so you are free to accept or reject changes on an individual basis.

Pricing Terms:
- My rate is $0.005 per word. For example, a 50,000 word novel would cost $250.00.
- Repeat clients will receive a 15% customer loyalty discount.
- For word counts, the count provided by Microsoft Word (the original word count when I receive it) is perfect.
- I prefer to receive a non-refundable deposit of half the quoted price up front, via PayPal, and half when my work is completed and submitted.

Need help getting your website to look how you want?

Since making my first website in 2006, I've given my main site a complete overhaul about once every 18 months. The end result is that I'm fluent in CSS and HTML. My site itself is coded by hand, and I often help folks tweak their sites or convert files by hand to website-ready HTML.

If your tweak is possible with your website software and theme, I should either know how to do it myself or be able to tell you what kind of programmer you're looking for.

Are you considering audio?

Audiobooks are a rapidly growing market and a great way to reach new readers. Many people like me use their morning drive time to "read" books on audio. With services like Audible.com, iTunes, and now, Kobo, audiobooks have never been more available.

I would love to narrate your audiobook for you. I have several books in both fiction and nonfiction already available on Audible.com. I do all of the production myself so I can guarantee a high standard of quality. I understand the ACX guidelines and can make sure your audio meets quality standards.

Two options
* You pay nothing up front -- we split the royalties 50/50.
* You keep all the royalties -- I work on a per-finished-hour contract basis. We can negotiate payment terms. Payment options via ACX, PayPal, or BTC/ETH available.

Contact me today to discuss your audio project.

Don't let your readers find errors--let me find (and fix) them instead.

Offering line editing, copy editing, and proofreading services, I am an experienced editor with a PhD in English (medieval literature). Although I have worked with a variety of genres (including erotica), my areas of specialization include fantasy, paranormal, dystopian, and speculative fiction. So if your story takes place in another world or an alternate version of our world, contact me to discuss your needs. I am happy to provide a free sample edit (around 1000 words) to determine whether or not we would be a good fit for one another.

If you are an indie author, I am part of the editing team at INDIE Books Gone Wild, where we offer additional services (the line edit also includes a proofread from another IBGW editor and a promotional giveaway), so be sure to go to the IBGW website for more information.

My rates vary (from $0.005-$0.05/word) depending on the level of editing. Let me know that you found me on KBoards and receive 10% off the project total.

I'm an experienced line editor specializing in Romance, Urban Fantasy, Fantasy, and Cozy Mysteries, both in the Adult and Young Adult demographics, though I'm open to all genres. I believe in forging a strong relationship with my clients so that you have someone who's a valuable member of your production team. I also have a developmental editor, proofreader, and a provider of Oops Detection®, thus providing a four-pass (with four separate sets of eyes!) editing solution with a single point of contact. I also have a formatter on staff for projects which have had at least one pass done by us. What does that mean for you? It means less project management on your end, which translates into less stress and more time for writing.

Stop by my website to see what other authors have to say about working with me!

Services Provided:
• Developmental Editing
• Line and Copy Editing
• Proofreading
• Final Proofing Pass (AKA Oops Detection®)

My name is Margaret Dean and I’ve worked as a freelance proofreader for professional publishing houses for the past thirty years. Now I’m bringing my expertise to the independent publishing market.

I’ll go over your work with an experienced eye; I’ll catch typos, correct spelling and punctuation errors, iron out grammar and usage glitches, and do whatever else is needed to give it the professional, literate polish it deserves.

All varieties of fiction welcome short of full-on erotica (romance-level sex scenes are fine); I’m a longtime SF & fantasy reader and won’t boggle at alien terminology or invented languages. I can also handle non-fiction written for general audiences.

Services Available:

I combine content and line edits into each job, unless you specifically ask for only line edits or proofreading. This is just the way I work, and I find it easier for all involved.

Content edits ($0.01 per word) – Focus on the story: characters, pacing, setting, plot, and other suggestions to improve the overall content of the story.

Line edits ($0.0075 per word) – sentence level: repetitions, crutch words, dangling modifiers, spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.

Proofreading ($0.005 per word) – spelling, punctuation, and repetitions.

~Please note: Your story must be complete.

Turnaround time:

I require one day per 5,000 words for content edits. (Line edits and proofreading goes much faster.) My work week is M-F, (I reserve weekends for my family) so this translates to two weeks per 50k.

That said, I thrive on short deadlines and coming through for authors who are in a pinch, so if you have a deadline quickly approaching and need a fast turnaround, please email me! I take pride in helping authors when they need it.

Pricing:

$0.01 per word for content/line combo edits

$0.0075 per word for line edits

$0.005 for proofreading

I reserve the right to go outside of those guidelines depending on type of edits and the intensity of work anticipated. The rate will be determined after I complete your sample edit.

*I use the beginning word count (the count when I receive the manuscript) for invoicing, so my edits won’t change the cost.

***New clients receive 10% off! Mention KBoards/WC in your email.***

Payment:

Please contact me! I’m usually more than happy to negotiate and even take payment arrangements at times. 🙂 Email me and let’s talk!

Email me at theresacole(at)live(dot)com to reserve your spot!

Please include the following in your message:
-genre of your work
-word count (or estimated word count) of the work you are considering me for
-proposed deadline for completion of edits
-type of edits you are interested in
-five-page sample of your manuscript (attached as a word document)

I will edit your sample (Times New Roman, 12pt font, double-spaced) at no cost and send it back to you before any commitments are made. I want the experience to be good for both of us. You are entitled to see how I edit before committing, and I am entitled to see what I am getting myself into before committing to take on the project.

• Rules of Protection by Alison Bliss
