Since my last suggestion went over so well...
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:52:49 am »
Now that the Kindle is going legit on the international market, how about including each user's location under their name or somewhere in the avatar area?

Don't know if that's possible, but a good idea...some people, of course, don't like to get TOO specific with their location, so we should make it optional.

I'm about 99.999% sure it's possible, because I've seen it on other forums that I'm pretty sure were using the same SMF software.

As for privacy concerns, it will only show what the person puts in that field of their profile, and I don't think that's a *required field. They can just leave it blank if they don't want it shown.

How about just a little country flag.

Cute idea, but with as many countries as now have access to the Kindle, that would be a game all of it's own trying to figure out which flag represents which country!

Maybe so, I just thought it went well with the gender symbols.

I've been on other boards where people made fun of spelling and sentence structure only to later discover that English wasn't the OPs first language.
For that reason, I think it's important to know when a poster is from a different country but I'm not sure people will like something that is location specific.

People do get touchy over privacy concerns.... People who would like to add their location can certainly do so themselves in their signatures.... I've always listed mine there.

We don't allow making fun of others here. ;D  We are not other boards.

But when Betsy makes fun of me, I retaliate with a Hugh picture...

Seriously, I like the idea of flags or whatever since I hope we have a flood of new, international members.

Maybe state flags with names for US persons and country flags with names for non-US persons.

    I don't make fun of any of you all, because I'm a nice person. . . . ::)

But "Hibbing" is a funny word. . . .go ahead, say it over and over again. . .I dare you to keep a straight face.  ;D

I think, given that location is an optional field, it would be a fun and interesting item to display in the left column. I think it is a forum option - - I'll check into it.

There was a where are you from thread once upon a time...or was that the dark side...lol.  I know we had the what do we look like one that Patrizia started.

I agree with the others...optional.  Besides we don't want all the people we make fun of stalking us when they find out where we live.  If that were the case; it would look like my street were having its own parade!! ;D

I like the idea of having an option for user's country of origin if they choose to disclose it. Flags might get a bit hard to implement, but I went ahead and did mine already. Do I get extra credit for that?

What ever happened with this Harvey, were you able to find out if it's possible?

If it is done, technically challenged people such as myself will need advice on how to post them.
