I did this during the "Fall for the Book" and had a good time talking to Scott Nicholson and Karen Cantwell, and others...I plan on swinging by VA Festival of the books if for no other reason then to meet Hugh and shake his hand...Betsy mentioned she might be going. So if others are thinking of it as well - do you want to get together while we are in one place?

Yeah, I want to go down on the 23rd. Not sure if Hugh's gonna be there that day. His event is on the 22nd, but that's a Friday, and I've gotta work. But if you wanna hook up on the 23rd for a beer, I'm in. (There will be booze at this thing, right?) ;D

In his Reddit AMA, I asked when he is going to be there and he said "Thursday, Friday and Saturday."  I can't do Saturday, and on Friday we'll be getting ready for Saturday, so hubby and I are aiming at Thursday.  Sorry you have to work, cousin V!

I can only make it on Thursday. I thought Hugh would not be there until the weekend. Awesome if he is there. Def would like to meet this person everyone seems to be talking about and see what all the hoopla is. ;)

I was planning on going on Thursday or Friday and hadn't even looked at the schedule but would like to meet the WC folks coming to C'ville.

No specifics yet, but as I said, Hugh said Thursday, Friday and Saturday:

Will see what we an do for setting up for other days...but for now:

Let's meet at 4:30 pm on Friday at:

    Miller's Downtown‎
    109 West Main Street
    Charlottesville, VA 22902

For those going to Hugh's talk at 6:00 - which is right nearby Miller's.  We'll know more after Hugh gets back for the AMA but this at least puts a place and time on the table. Anyone else feel free to specify other dates/times if it would be better for you.

I know very little about either the VA Festival of Books specifically or Charlottesville in general...my basic idea for Thursday was to channel my inner David Adams and stalk Hugh until he was forced to talk to me or get a restraining order...  So I'm open to suggestions.  I'll have the hubster with me.

What a perfect reason to be at Miller's on a Friday afternoon. I will be there and plan on going to Hugh's session as well.

Not sure about the festival, but the wife and I were just down in Charlottesville last summer to visit Monitcello. It's a beautiful city. Lots of history to check out, if you get bored with books.

I live about an hour away -- I might be able to make it for a meetup, although I don't have any plans to attend the sessions.

The wife's in, so we should be getting down there between 9 and 10a.m. Saturday. Not sure how long we'll stick around.

I've been there, and to Monticello (fascinating), but not enough to have a feel for how things relate to each other or how close stuff is to the Festival...  We'll probably do something history-related while we're down there if we have time...  Hubby loves history.  (His name is Fred, btw.  ;))

Charlottesville's lovely. Wish I could make it down there!

(I actually have a bunch of writerly things going on up here in Northern Virginia that same weekend, including a workshop hosted by my local chapter featuring Bob Mayer!)

My wife is also coming, I want to see if there are any other sessions worth going to.  Need to find out a bit more about Hugh's schedule but I'm sure he would want to mesh with people on Saturday as well.

Oh, sure, rub it in. Still can't come Friday. Vacation days are all spoken for.

Hugh also said he would try to swing by Miller's, but don't take that as a firm commitment. I'm just passing on what he mentioned.
