Paperwhite page number issues
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:48:56 pm »
I have a paperwhite and I get books that say on the product page that they should have real page numbers. When I read them on the Kindle app on my Iphone the page numbers show, when I read them on my kindle they don't. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just call customer service?

You have to tap the screen at the top so the menu comes up . . . .the page numbers will show at the bottom.

Yeah I know that, and some of my books will show them IF I do a hard reset on the kindle and only then but some books that won't even work for.

If you're certain that there are page numbers in the books you're trying - by checking them on your Kindle app - then yes, there would seem to be a fault with the Kindle. They should show up when you tap the top menu and you shouldn't have to keep rebooting the device.

I think a call to Kindle CS would be a good idea. Contact details are here.

Not all books have page numbers. . . . .

I am reading a book on my paperwhite. On Amazon  it says there are 401 pages and on the paperwhite it
says 379 pages. Shouldn't it be the same page numbers? Also it says X-ray enabled, but that is greyed out.

The page numbers download in a separate file, so the book may have gotten downloaded but not the .apnx file, or whatever the extension is. You might try turning the wireless on at letting the Kindle sleep for a bit.

The number of pages given for the print edition may not be the print edition that the page numbers are based on.  The book description number of pages might also be just an estimate.

On the Amazon forum, someone said that they deleted the book and redownloaded and it solved the problem with X-ray being grayed out...you might try that.  If that doesn't work, try restarting the device using the menu.  (Menu > Settings > Menu > Restart

The book I'm reading, I got from the library for my Kindle,,so I'm afraid if I delete it, I won't get back if there
is a waiting list for it.

Deleting a library book from your device will not remove it from your account (just like a book you've purchased). It's checked out to your account until either the due date or you return it from the myk page.
