For the second year the fabulous moderators at /reddit/r/Fantasy are holding a contest for the Best of 2013.  This year the added a category for best independent novel and they have asked me to do what I can to help spread the word to get more nominations in the thread for voting.

So, if you have a fantasy title and you want to get the word out - check out This thread

Dang.  I released the last book of my trilogy on Christmas of last year.  Less than a year old but ineligible.

That's going to be a tough list to choose from.

Looks like fun. Good luck to the nominees.

By the way Michael, I saw several of your books (face out!) in my local B&N last week. It was all I could do not to brag to a passing employee, "I know that author!" But I figured he'd think I was making it up.  ::) Saw some David Dalglish, Hugh Howey, and Bella Andre books too.

I intend to have Out-Dweller, the sequel to Glimmer Vale (see below) out by the end of the month.  :)  So alas folks won't be likely to have read it by the end of the year.  But what the hey, I'll play...as soon as it's released.  :)

Step 1: Find a subreddit you like
Step 2: Make blue links purple
    Step 3: Get addicted

It only seems hard when all those links are blue.

Are we allowed to nominate more than one book? I have two I published this year.

I really need to learn how to use reddit...

    1. Take photos of your cat
    2. Post it with a title that starts with "look at this little guy..." or "look at this gem..."
    3. ? ? ?
    4. Karma

And then enjoy the bliss of all your useless internet points. Congrats. You've learned to Reddit.

Wow, everything in that thread's getting downvoted hard. /r/fantasy needs to remove the downvote buttons again. :P

Rats. All my good fantasy stuff came out in 2012. What about mediocre fantasy? Any awards for that?  ;D

I did release Hunter's Chosen in 2013, but it feels wrong to be pimping my own book in that thread. Most responders seem to be referring to other people's work.

I also have to wonder about the authenticity of this award. Are the voters required to read every nominee? Are they going to do so by January 1? Or is it a "I'll vote for my own book/the one book on this list I've actually read/the one with the purtiest cover" situation? Hey, if it's a chance to promote my work I'm down with it, but as an award this seems not very well thought out.

I think the winner is determined by the number of upvotes on a book post (regardless of whether or not the winners read the book)

It's basically the Viewer's Choice Award, except for books.

This is the kind of thing where it would be great if something of mine got nominated by someone else, which I think is very unlikely. I think I'm going to let it lie and not pimp my own work. I'll get there someday, but not today.

You don't have to worry about that. I hopped over to the main page, and the rules say you're allowed to nominate your own works.

Well, okay. . . if you're sure that that's allowed, I guess I'll pitch mine too. I want to be careful about showing up to a new place and upsetting anyone

I felt the same way, but in the rules posted at the top of the thread it says you can nominate your own work.
