My name is Elizabeth, and I'm a full-time editor. I've had the pleasure of editing and proofreading the manuscripts of several KBoard members over the last three years, including some best sellers!

Arrowhead Editing focuses on the sentence-level editing of final draft manuscripts.

My services include:

Proofread
0.006 / word (or $60 per 10k words)
Take 10% off as a follow-up to a line edit

Line Edit
0.012 / word (or $120 per 10K words)

Genres I have edited:
Cozy Mysteries
Superhero
YA Urban Fantasy
Historical Fantasy
High Fantasy
Paranormal Romance
Mysteries
Spy Thrillers
Science Fiction
Space Operas
Horror
Techno-Thriller
Contemporary Romance
Post-Apocalyptic
Alien Invasion
And more!

My strengths are in smoothing out sentences, ensuring consistency in spelling, names, and style, fixing grammatical errors both basic and advanced, catching repetitions, flagging inaccurate or anachronistic wording, and catching missing words and typos. I have been praised for my attention to detail and thorough edits.

I follow the Chicago Manual of Style and use both the New Oxford American Dictionary and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. I am familiar with American and British spelling.

I use Microsoft Word's track changes and comment features. I also use Scrivener, though I prefer Word for editing.

I have studied creative writing & history at university, and I earned a degree in Broadcasting & Film.

Want to know whether I'm the right editor for your manuscript? Send a 1000-word sample that best reflects the overall condition of your manuscript to arrowheadediting[at]gmail[dot]com and I'll have the edited sample back to you within 48 hours (weekends not included).

For more information, including a detailed breakdown of the services I offer and my availability, please visit my website: www.arrowheadediting.com

You can also hire me through Reedsy!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me, email me, or post here!

Thank you for reading my post and I hope to work with you soon!

Hi! I'm not a writer, but I know many folks here use Scrivener. Do you work with Scrivener, or only with .doc/x documents?

I actually use Scrivener to write, myself. Love that program!

Hi Elizabeth - I second Catherine's question. I would like to book a service if the sample goes well, but I'm looking for late September. This would be novella length so something around 30,000.

    Hello Elizabeth,

How long will this proofreading promotion be running for?

    Thank you. :)

The first two weeks of September (or until I book 5-6 proofreading jobs).

I'd be more than happy to honor a scheduling with these rates, as long as your edits are scheduled for either September or October. If this doesn't work for you, email me and we can work something out.

    Hi Heather!

Late September works for me. Email me a sample whenever its ready and I'll get it back to you within 24 hours of receiving it.

Edited to add for no particular reason: I have Bound in Blue on my Kindle!

Ideally, the first week in October because of life stuff at the moment. And I get paid the last week of September.

I'll book you in for the week of October 6 as a placeholder. If anything changes, let me know. You can email me anytime :)

I'm going to assume that a typical book would (ideally) need all phases of editing done. That is, developmental, substantive, and proofreading.

This would add up to $1,260 for an 80k manuscript. That's a lot of money for a self-pub author. Are there discounts available for the later phases, if the earlier phases are purchased?

    Thanks

For 40,000 words, it usually takes 2-3 days, but that's usually for extensive copyedits. For a proofread, I'd estimate 1-2 days. If you need it done ASAP, I can push it to one day. These estimates can change depending on the level of work required.

Actually 1,260 is a very very low quote for three full passes for the amount of work described. To put things in perspective I paid 500$ for 20k from my developmental/content editor for a single pass. Which would work out to about 2,000 for an 80k manuscript, and that's just for one pass. Now Joshua, the guy I worked with, does fall on the expensive end for Indies, but he wasn't the most expensive. So I think you'll find that these rates are quite low. Editing is expensive, and perhaps the most important investment you can put into your work.

You guys are amazing! It's been a whirlwind trying to keep up, but in the matter of two hours, I've booked my promotion solid. I can't wait to start editing all your manuscripts, some of which I've had my eye on from your signatures.

I'll more than likely hold another promotion in November, so keep the page bookmarked! If you guys have any comments or suggestions, feel free to post here or message me (yeah, I know, $5 for 10k next time, right ;))

    Thanks again!

I'd suggest trying to write it yourself (you know your book best) and sharing it on KBoards for feedback. There are blurb doctors out there and I'd definitely be happy to help, too.
    My advice:
Make a character list of the important characters (protagonist, antagonist, love interest or supporting character), list your conflicts (outer and inner), any themes, the state of your "Ordinary world" (bad example: Willowbrooks was a nice, sleepy town) and the event that disturbs it (bad example continuation: until Smith, Aliens Most Wanted, moved into the neighborhood), your setting, and go from there. Try to boil your book down to one line (usually a question), and expand the summary from there (similar to the Snowflake Method).

Got my proofread back from Elizabeth last week and couldn't have been happier with her work. Not only did she find and fix lots of embarrassing little errors, she also pointed out a couple of continuity issues that I would have never found myself. Couldn't recommend her more highly!

I just finished the third book of a trilogy. From the start I worked with a great editor and two "real time" beta readers. I thought it would be helpful to get a fresh set of eyes on the book for a final copy edit. Elizabeth was really outstanding! If anyone has questions, feel free to PM me.... I highly recommend her!

      Thanks Elizabeth!! :D

For anyone wondering, Elizabeth edited both books in the series and did an amazing job! Her dedication blew me away and she really brought the book up to the next level. I've gotten comments in multiple reviews about the good editing and/or lack of errors. She is quick to respond to emails, meets her deadlines, and has fantastic instincts for style, story, and flow -- a rare skill that, in my opinion, can't be easily taught or memorized from a how-to book.

PM me if you'd like to know more about working with her. :)

I highly recommend Elizabeth. She's professional, and her editing skills are second to none. I can't tell you how many editors we've vetted, only to find that their understanding of grammar and sense of flow was lacking. Not so with Elizabeth. She's excellent at smoothing out sentences and catching errors large and small. We found her through this thread on KBoards and couldn't be happier!

I'm still accepting manuscript for my 10% off proofreading and copyediting holiday special!

No need to schedule your edits! Just send in your manuscript to arrowheadediting[at]gmail[dot]com and I'll get it back to you within 3 to 4 days, depending on where you land in the queue.

I can accommodate another four average-length (80,000 words) manuscripts between now and Wednesday, December 23.

For more information, you can visit my website here.

      Happy writing!

I have a weird slot in April I'm trying to fill (one week at the beginning and one week at the end). If you need your manuscript edited during that month, I'd be happy to complete a sample edit for you!

I'm looking to schedule one full-length manuscript (approx. 80,000 words) in April, with a start date of Monday, April 4 and a delivery date of Friday, April 29. Or if you have two shorter works (40,000 words each) that need editing, I can schedule those in instead. I usually don't need such a big turnaround time, but the middle of my schedule is filled, which is creating this bizarre gap :-\

I'm still offering a 15% discount to new clients on their first order!

Want to know if I'm the right editor for your book? Email me with the information found on the contact page of my website with the first 1000 words of your manuscript for a sample edit.

You can view my full availability here.

Happy Writing, Rewriting, and/or Editing!  ;D

      Hey,

I am interested in blurb writing.

      Hi Diana.

Unfortunately, I don't offer blurb writing as part of my services. I focus on line editing. You can view a list of my services here.

I'm sure there are many people here on KBoards who could help you with your blurb, though. :)

      All the best!

      Hello!

Due to a couple of cancelations, I have spots available for anyone who might need editing work done soon; I usually book up months in advance, so this is a great chance to cut in line :)

My next availability is the week of Monday, August 27, 2018.
Starting Wednesday, September 5, I have most of September available, as well as the first week of October open.

My rates are 0.012/word for line editing and 0.006/word for proofreading.
I average 8,000 to 10,000 words/day for editing and 10,000 to 15,000 words/day for proofreading, depending on the scope of work.

You can contact me at arrowheadediting[AT]gmail[DOT]com or visit my website for more information.

      Thank you and happy writing!

Greetings, Elizabeth! Sorry we missed welcoming you back in 2014. Or in one of the intervening years. :-[ I'm posting now to make sure you're aware of the rules for promoting your business and/or website here in the Writers' Cafe.

Now that you have an official thread, you'll want to add your listing to our Yellow Pages, found here: https://www.kboards.com/yp/. The listing is free to KB members and is completely self-service; you can add and edit your listing from the page. More information on our Yellow Pages listing can be found here.

In your thread here, we ask that the same basic rules be followed as we have for authors in the Book Bazaar: you may have this one thread about your service and must post to it rather than start a new thread each time. New threads about the service will be removed. Please bookmark this thread so that you can find it again when you want to post.

You may not make back-to-back posts to the thread within seven days. If someone responds (as I'm doing with this post), you may reply to them, but otherwise you must wait seven days. Any pattern of posting designed to artificially bump your thread to the top of the forum is prohibited. Please note that very short or (one- or two-word) posts with no meaningful information are discouraged and may be deleted at the moderators' discretion.

Lastly, your posts and images will need to meet our "forum decorum" guidelines, which is the case for every member.

You may find that members ask searching questions -- about how your service works, for example, or what they will get for their money, or whether your service adheres to Amazon's terms of service. Such "vetting" is a common here and can be rigorous.

Note that members are allowed to provide civil and honest feedback about your service in this thread. This feedback may include criticisms as well as kudos. You may respond to criticism in a civil manner, but name-calling, badgering, accusations of lying, and other breaches of forum decorum can lead to loss of vendor posting privileges.

Any and all disputes between you and your clients should be handled off-site.

      Thanks,
      Becca
      KBoards Moderator

(Note that this welcome does not constitute an endorsement or vetting of a service by KBoards. Members should do due diligence when considering using a service.)

      Welcome! :)
Read about using the Writers' Cafe here. Our larger "forum decorum" is here. The site's overall terms of use are here. Please be aware of this material.
Troubleshooting: If you're having difficulties with advertising on KBoards, the contact email is [email protected] You can also use our PM system to contact the site's owners via the vsAdmin account. The Link-Maker and Author Signature Tool long longer function. There's a manual version of the former here and a workaround for the latter here.

"Elizabeth has edited every book I've published (20+) and does an amazing job every time! Her attention to detail always blows me away, and she never fails to bring that next level of polish to my books. I've seen countless reader reviews that remark on tight editing. She's quick to respond to emails, meets or beats her deadlines, answers my every question in detail, and has fantastic instincts for style, story, and flow. Elizabeth is an indispensable part of my publishing process." - Annette Marie, author of The Guild Codex

If anyone needs line editing or proofreading done before the end of the year, I have a few openings left in 2020!
